This was my first intro to the cigar box guitar, and, sure enough, a month later, I couldn't shake the bug and sure enough a month later bought one, thanks Knotlenny for making this a LOT less intimidating!
On of the best videos of this kind I’ve found so far! Thank you door the humor and learning. 👍 Can’t wait to get home, replay this a bunch of times and practice now! 😀
Awesome ?? He's a LEGEND !! I've been throwing my CBG in the corner out of frustration for MONTHS. Now i realise i've been TOTALLY overthinking it ! I mean, FFS - it's a ruddy guitar made out of a BOX! Why the HELL am I using a Digi-tune, or in fact trawling RUclips looking for tunings. THANKYOU Kevin !
Nice extension on the tuner toss. Everything you said was super helpful. I'm tuned to the hi strings of Open G (GBD) so I had to move the 2nd fret note to the outside strings but this was one of the most helpful tutorials I've come across. You're an excellent teacher!
OMG I started laughing this video just gave me the best tool I have ever seen for tuning! HAHAHAHA BRILLIANT I will never need any kind of tuner AGAIN! I am a lifelong musician though I always try and remain teachable... this was the thing under... new things I learned today! THANK YOU!
I bought a 3 string guitar neck "you finish" kit and it came with a fretboard cut to 24-5/8" scale. My 6-string has 25-1/2" but that seems a bit long for a cigar box body. This is a wonderful video for showing what can be done. He is right on when he talks about intervals and no frets.
Greetings from the California Mother Lode, Most excellent lesson, I hope you can find some time to make a few more lessons, you are a very good musician and an excellent teacher. Thank you for your time and effort. Good on ya!
Man, I played guitar a lotta year, saw a cigar box guitar somewhere and went on to play ukulele about seven years ago. Think I'll have to put meself together one of these!
I watched this earlier this week and now I'm watching again. I find this video and the CBG fascinating. I'm going to sub your channel this time friend.
I agree that ear tuning is sufficient, but I do like my snark tuner.... Just nice to check on my ear every now and then. Also it has trained my ear pretty well. I think Knotlenny was just trying to say you dont need one, which you dont.
the bit about tuners was a very lame joke. On Amazon right now a Snark is $8.79 Even if your CBG keeps going out of tune, it's worthwhile to use one, although not an $80 one, for sure.
Best straight to the point cigar box tutorial I've seen so far 👍

Gdg is what is most common.
Love the way he just throws the tuner
Best video on RUclips about music
One of the best CBG tutorials I have ever seen. Many thanks sir.

Me, too that was brilliant

Total inspiration! Love it!
Great work sir... watched and enjoyed with a smile on my face
You're pretty fucking awesome. I became your fan the moment you threw that digital tuner over your back. Keep it up boss!
Priceless! Thank you very much. It's so easy for me to overthink stuff like this!
Got me riled up with the tuner, almost left. Smart ass.

Top Mark's that man
Nice one well done
I'm looking for some lessons and you are, by far, the easiest and most entertaining to learn from. Do you have additional lessons? I don't see any. Di
Brillant
Great tutorial, thanks a lot, how are you?
Which guitar string gauges do most folks usually use? My neck is about 25.5 inches (copied it off a real acoustic guitar).
WHAT SCALE LENGHT on this CBG?
Are you using Med. ADG strings?
check out my Cigar Box Guitars... i'm certain you would like them
Bait and switch!!!!!
Promised to show us a way to play 8 gazillion songs.
Only shows us a way to play 1 gazillion.
free tuning app on ipad
Either you're a big lad or that's a small guitar, either way this is a great video.
It's a tiny guitar.
i think its both
your good singing and playing and in explaining :) greets from germany :) ps: what the name of the song?;)
Maybelin
More C Berry please...
Inflation?
A Lot of people play G D G
the original power chords. guitarist will know how to play this if they've ever played with "drop d" tuning.
A decent Snark tuner is about $12 on the internet.
the bit about tuners was a very lame joke. On Amazon right now a Snark is $8.79 Even if your CBG keeps going out of tune, it's worthwhile to use one, although not an $80 one, for sure.
I use Cleartune to tune mine. It's a free download on itunes.
There are a bunch of free apps for your phone, don't buy one.
And 99% work perfectly. !!!!!
Not so many in 2009 :S
And no. They are not accurate. A tuner is way more accurate then the app, especially when playing in a group. Especially when tuning lineIn.
Hey my last name is sprague
Long before snarks? Lol
lol really
GONG still sounds out of tune to me
and carrying that weighty slide to play it that little seems silly never mind rock and roll on a cigar box really?
