Just bought a 2019 for my wife's car, gotta say, I'm a little jealous. It's no rocket, but who gives a shit - it's for going to work and back, and surviving winter while laughing at stuck dudes in pickup trucks.
In the summer of 2019 I grabbed a loaded 2017 Impreza Limited with just 12,000 miles on it for $13,500, which was nearly a $29,000 car just over a year before that. It was it in the rear and has a rebuilt title, but is otherwise a great little commuter with a much improved interior compared to the 2016 model year.
Another fantastic review! I have to say, you already had some of the best production value for car reviews when you started, but I feel like you've really continued to improve it to where there is no one even coming close. The aerial shots look fantastic, the music, and your honest, humorous and highly detailed reviews make me excited to watch each one. Keep it up! :)
***** I assumed that footage at the beginning was sourced from Subaru or elsewhere. Had to rewatch to spot that the license plate was the same as the car he's driving. Using a drone (I assume it's a drone) for aerial shots really changed my perception of the production level I thought I was looking at. Good stuff. It does contribute to making the video a bit of a mongrel tone-wise though. You go from dramatic, swooping shots of the shore to a rather dull car, and then from that to the comical Turbowski segment, and then from that to a relatively low-energy, no-bullshit review. Individually the pieces are all good (never change, Scott), but when they're stapled together... I don't know. I kind of wish this video was 3 different shows.
maninredhelm Yeah, I originally thought they must have been stock video too! As for the incongruity of the review, I actually LIKE that aspect of it :) The music is so overly dramatic along with the epic camera work, that I almost feel like it's an extension of his weird sense of humor(which I like). It's funny, I actually like the fact that the pieces DON'T fit together in a completely seamless manner is what makes these videos so entertaining and unique.
maninredhelm Without going into huge detail, I agree with you. This is large struggle at the end of the day this is a press car, product review. There is no guide book to this. But one thing is you can't go too far off. I'd love to create a story for each vehicle with contiguous parts. But not every car has this epic development story or in many cases many cars are zzzzzz. So sticking to just facts is safe. But it's the balance of trying to be entertaining, funny, artistic informative, original. The Point is, trying to find a way to fix some of the issues you stated, they are real.
***** If it was up to me it would be 100% over the top humor. I am glad it still works despite the lack of real connected segments, over time this should improve hopefully.
We have the 2014 sedan, same generation. Love it. So solid, like a Japanese Volvo. Paid $17,300 for the base level after the 2015s came out. For the money you can't beat it. From 0 to 60 is irrelevant. 20 to 60 for highway access, it does fine. And perfect for winter mountain trips. It sure doesn't feel like an entry level car! Compared to my Sentra, it's definitely the 'good car.'
That has to be the most detailed and objective review. It's so pleasant to watch- I wish you'd have done the manual version, I think you would've enjoyed that car much more as do I when I test drive the cvt.. The manual is a whole other car and it is just so much to drive..
Excellent review. For Subaru to be price competitive with AWD they had to cut corners somewhere. Interior plastics and sound deadening is it. I also never purchased Subarus because of their horrible gas mileage. The Outback now gets in the 30's. My BRZ can hit 37 mpg I have averaged 30 mpg from new. Take the Impreza on a gravel road. Mr Boring becomes magic or even a mud road. This is excellent basic transportation.
I’ve had 2 2012 Impreza hatches with a cvt. Inherited the first one from my grandpa when it was 6 years old at 40k miles. Put another 50k on it over 3 more years and literally nothing broke
As always great review guys! Your channel is IMO probably the best car review channel. Pretty funny, but I really appreciate all of the hard work that you put in and love the under the car/hood segment. Haven't really seen any of the others really show underneath as in-depth as you guys. I feel that helps to paint an honest picture of what you're getting in a car in terms of tech/quality. Wishing you lots of success... PS can you do more truck reviews please?
Put a slightly de-tuned BRZ mill with 175 hp at 6400 rpm and no torque dip. Add an very good shifting 5 or 6 speed manual. Make it available on the premium model. You would have a wonderful 23k car.............. That will never happen.
I question the direction of the 2012 impreza performance wise, the 2008 is even on the dwindling side of things and its like they chose to ignore it and just add creature comforts to kinda shadow it out as well as try to improve MPG slightly. I'd like to see the new impreza lose 300 lbs or so and up the motor to a 2.2 to get out of that shitty 2.0 litre class not saying i want a race car but i don't want a repeat of the 96 S-10 pickup truck.
Was looking for a used 2013 Impreza 4Drs Sedan yesterday and I found the shock/struts is terrible keeping noise over broken payment to intruded into the cabin. It almost feels like you're on a go cart...just clunk and thumps with not noise isolation at all. The turns signal is extra loud as well. Runs and drive great with enough power to your everyday driving but I dislike the fact that for a 5 years old car it sound like all the shock/struts are dead and more like cars from the 90's.
Another great review. Always love your camera work. Just a basic car for everybody. Perfect for northern drivers dealing with snow/ice. Good set of winter tires and this will get you to where you need to go. Get the manual trans. For more fun get the Crosstrek.
Just came upon this review - nostalgic, since I had a 2013 Impreza Sport hatchback for 5 years. I enjoyed a lot about the car - it was great in the rain/snow, could fit a lot of stuff inside, looked good on the outside, and was highly functional. BUT, you are so spot on about the acceleration when heat soaked. On a hot summer day, this was the worst car I've ever been in in terms of performance vs. when cooled down. On a hot day with the A/C on, anything could beat this car to 60. Anything. A Prius, a tank, a train, a cheetah, grandma's 1970s station wagon. Anything. On a cold day, there were moments where it felt quick, especially when punching it at around 30mph. But the heat was its worst enemy.
I totally agree on the strides Subaru has made here in not only their impreza but other vehicle line up as well. However like u said, adding a cushion to points were driver's constantly rub and touch should have been something Subaru should have addressed. Turbowski cracked me up with the supercharger cover off the gm 3.8l on top of the engine. Keep the videos rolling!
+Joseph Smorra you are lucky ...check out all the complaints on the forums .Subaru is relaxing some engine blocks ...My son's Imprezza is now burning oil . Needs full quart every 2500 miles ..and he has taken good care of his car ...you lucked out !
Question please❓ Im looking at adding an turbo "fan" to the intake. I don't expect any extra power or gas mileage increase "but" I was wondering, will this extra air intake prolong the engine life?
I hated driving this car for a week while one of my fenders was being repainted (blemish on the base coat from the factory). Even my sisters who complain my WRX is too stiff couldn't stand to be in while I drove them around.
Why do you need radar cruise control?? I don't see a situation where you could be going faster then another other car since this is always the slowest car on the road at any given time.
Im thinking of purchasing the Subaru Impreza G4 2015, is it fuel efficient? and also is it an overall good car to get? i want to get a Manual Transmission
If people didn't want that interior they would buy a VW, honda or toyota. I as a subaru owner like the use of cheaper(harder) materials. They are very easy to clean and you are not exactly worried about scufing it up all the time. I really like how simple they keep everything too. I do not like that you cannot do any modification engine wise without these cars going ape s***
I have an Outback 2016 and I picked up a loaner Impreza while the ting was in for service. . Had it for a week, and I really enjoy driving it compared to the outback. The suspension is perfect; great on rough roads, highway and with good steering feel. In normal driving you don't' often get a chance to experience the depth of the chassis. Take it quickly on a bumpy fastish curve and its glued while still allowing you to feel and be comfortable. So many cars these days are inert. If it wasn't for the looks it would be even more tempting though
Conner Hendrick : This Thing Actually Is Fun to drive. No, it isn’t the fastest thing, but I’ve managed to get 7.9 to 60 with my CVT Impreza. Much better than people say. Trust me...
Scott P I just followed you, liked and shared this comment on my Instagram, Periscope, Twitter, Pinterest, G+, SnapChat, Hangouts, G+. iJackstands can at least digitally transmit vehicle corner weights to my iPad, iPod, iPhone 3 3g, 4 4gs, 5s 6s 6s Plus, iMac, Macbook Pro, MacBook Air, Asus Transformer, Motorola Xoom, Dell Venue, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Amazon Fire HD. #iDigiLife
I haven't finished listening to this review, but i can whole heartedly agree that this car is conservative. I have the 2015 Sport Limited hatchback five speed and it is not over flashy. My coworker bought a 2016 Mazda 3 hatch and thats where the bells and whistles are at. Me, I'm a simple person. Give me a stereo, a clutch and all wheel drive. (seat warmers are nice)
do the new impreza, manual, base, review and promote it (without the tech addons). It's one of the best cars without all the shitty tech you don't like.
hey good review! I was thinking of getting between a 02-05 3 series or 07-09 one. Should i stay away? im i asking for an empty wallet? what is your opinion? if i should stay away what car do u recommend 2006+? anyone
Nice to know my Elantra GT (2013) would be a couple inches ahead of this car at the 60mph point! LOL. This review reminded me a lot of my Elantra, including the flat seats actually being comfortable. I would much rather have my Elantra (Auto) than that CVT. Great review! Have any plans to do any more Hyundai products in the future?
Budgets, mostly and the fact they have to pay fleet companies to maintain and loan them out across the country. Gets expensive. Some media outlets also maybe just write a quick article so they look at the effectiveness of actually even having a car in their fleets to loan out. All about $$$

Dammit man! You made ma check my phone for text messages again! there really is no point in having paddle shifters, or a manual mode, in a CVT. If the vehicle has a CVT, it should automatically adjust to the best gear ratio for the situation, so all you should see on the shifter indicator is P, R, and D. It should also save in production cost, which could translate to lower vehicle purchase cost, and that price point will attract more customers.
you know your reviews are good when people are watching reviews of boring cars
Shut your hole.' Boring but will probably still be driving your stupid ass around in 15 years.
You are so right lol
"Probably shouldn't say that, you might get sued." lmfao

I'm surprised no one has commented on the awesome ringtone. Sunshine is so underrated.

Great review, as always. Turbowski is awesome. You gotta be mellow to be a mechanic. Otherwise you'll just drop F bombs until you have a stroke.
Do the new one please!

I find in the 5th gen Impreza is much nicer in the interior when it comes to materials used it has a bit more soft touch materials

just make sure to keep a case of oil in the trunk !

Alittle late, but 2 years later, the newest imprezas are actually sexy.
The pissed off look while accelerating.... yes that just about sums it up right there. Another great production and worth watching again.
What kind of car does Turbowski drive?
kkthxk It's a camel, not a horse.
He gets piggy back rides from guys at the mens lockeroom.
savagegeese with words like that....have fun doing under car shots on #iJackstands. Follow me, like me.

I love the Sunshine ring tone

how much mpgs you get on the hatch manual?
Un-fun fact: as of summer 2020 the Impreza seems to be the only sedan with a manual transmission assembled in the USA
Savagegeese does this Subaru have a smooth riding suspension ? from a rating of 1 to 10.
6.0
Love your videogame nerd music selections!
How does it compare to your Mazda 3?
I'd take the 3 over the Subaru for interior, mpg, utility. But if you need/want AWD moot point.
Great review! But I was wondering has Subaru resolved the leaking gasket issues with this latest generation of engines (FA series I believe)?
Its actually an unknown but Subaru is recommending the same coolant additive (stop leak)on the FA as previous motors. Take that for what its worth.
What’s with the flashing dash?
I didn't see, but most likely the refresh rate of the screen and camera
The disgust on your face when u finally hit 60 mph lmao
Shirt kinda looks like a human centipede.
+carzzi I thought the same thing.. human centipede x-mas
carzzi yes hahahs
And love the human centipede Christmas shirt.
I really did want to know from Turbowski what kind of upgrades can be done with this car. Too bad he didn't really care.
do the new impreza, manual, base, review and promote it (without the tech addons).
It's one of the best cars without all the shitty tech you don't like.
Love the Brett ballcap!
I wonder how this compare to a.Mazda 3
+raul1794 3 is more fun and more efficient. Impreza has more room better visibility and yes is much better in bad weather.
Hey savageese when do u think hyundai will release info on the next gen veloster
Probably launch chicago autoshow 2016 feb or before.
savagegeese thanks can't wait
hey good review! I was thinking of getting between a 02-05 3 series or 07-09 one. Should i stay away? im i asking for an empty wallet? what is your opinion? if i should stay away what car do u recommend 2006+? anyone
I like your review style and detail. enjoyable. keep it up!
Review the wrx soon!
That was an awesome review. Enjoyed it a lot, thank you.
Superb job. "Fisher Price" plastic, hah! Am looking at this or a Legacy or a Mazda6. The cheesy plastic and lethargic performance are a deal-killer.
Lol. "You can do a pottery class in the back ."...who says that? That's why I love these reviews
Justin Kelly Likely the Tuscan, I'd like to get Azera but thats not likely. Waiting for new Elantra, not that there is anything wrong with current.
savagegeese Why is it so hard to get certain cars? I know manufacturers pick ones to put in the "review pile" do they not put older ones?
Budgets, mostly and the fact they have to pay fleet companies to maintain and loan them out across the country. Gets expensive. Some media outlets also maybe just write a quick article so they look at the effectiveness of actually even having a car in their fleets to loan out. All about $$$
awhh yes, i was looking forward of you doing 2015 or 2016 subaru wrx sti, but this will do for now
Waiting for the 16s to come in.
Man you're really good at reviewing stuff. Kelli up the good work. subscribe!
Always brown in the back.😂😂😂. You guys are the best.
May I please ask if you could get more performance cars to review? :) It would have been great if you had a wrx to review...
Next three cars will be performance based. Have to wait for 2016 WRX and STI but they are on list.
Why, one must say that's jolly tremendous news, good Sir! :)
savagegeese Performanced based? So more nerf cars?
Scott P Bwahahaha
Well hope youvdont get a snow storm while driving great car for new driver or city where parking is prime

@@XxUltimateGodzXx awesome . that car is gold
Your shirt. I want one.
Whats wrong with these reviewers? Its a solid Impreza. Why does he expect it to perform like a Honda R Type?
It's a fine car, just a bit sedate yet functional.
If they wanna go faster , well , there's always a WRX or an STI .
Just spare us the nonsense ! Test drive the MANUAL car ! You and all of us will like it a lot more !
I have exact same ride, but 2014.
It's design is awesome, what r u talking about, lol
Definitely much less boring than that of the next-gen Impreza!
When you are on your P plates in Australia, performance is not even an option at all.
I'm looking for a AWD sedan this is cute!
I want one in a manual NOW
Hatchback with a manual would be a better choice IMHO.
Agreed
"Doesn't cut the mustard" lmfao!
I love painfully slow econo-boxes
Why does Scott talks like he is 13?
sorry nothing beats a Corolla manual. it will outlive this thing by a decade
Subaru. More than a car...A Religion! More Kool Aid anyone?
"brown in the back"...lol
BTBAM appearance
Scott is Cool.
the best review on this channel hands down!!! LMAO
cool T-shirt
The human centipade shirt
yo what kind of accent is that?
the sad part is, it doesn't look like an impreza.
+MatthewGames1 Its the Impreza with most of the character shaved off.
Do you plan to review the Crosstrek?
+Sheerkhanful If available.
2:35 was awkward
90s Impreza´s were much better looking. These newer ones look so bloated and heavy.
C'mon folks....it's the human Santapede, not human centipede...
