It's very refreshing that somebody actually learns about the car before the review. All the technical details are very appreciated. Keep up the great work guys. :)
Just bought a blue sport premium 2015 in 2020 here with really really low miles practically new. So far I love the car! Could use a little more get up and go but hey with mpg like this im not complaining. Has everything I need, all the creature comforts etc. Live in Minnesota here so i cant wait to take it out and see how it does in the winter. Id say this car wins for sure!
Anytime I see a review for this car people are so critical in the comments. It's not an ugly car at all. The price and specs are similar to hatchbacks from other manufacturers but this has all wheel drive. The comment that says "why would you buy this when you could buy a base model Wrx for a similar price" amazes me. It makes no sense at all.
Also a used WRX is like $22,000 where I'm at at a minimum unless you're getting a model 10 years old or so. Also I just bought a 2016 Imprezza limited for about $14,000 with only 60k miles. Very cheap for what you get.
Having test drove a few of these, the CVT has come a long ways. With traffic ever increasing in my locale the paddle shifters let you play when you want with 6 "simulated" speeds, and slide over into D and let the drool drip out of the corner of your mouth when stuck in stop and go. Lower RPM's on the freeway= better mpg than the 5sp manual version. Yes it's no WRX, but a great all around commuter equipped for all four seasons that uses regular unleaded gasoline.
You mention how the rear legroom isn't all that impressive when in reality it's one of the best in the segment. You mention the corolla having better legroom, but it's literally the *only* one with better legroom. It's super roomy in the impreza AND the corolla, especially when you compare them to cars like the mazda 3 and ford focus.
It doesn't matter. My point was, I think he's misinforming people about the amount of rear legroom there is compared to alternative vehicles. It's a compact car, there isn't going to be much legroom to begin with regardless.
I like his reviews a lot, and all of his videos for that matter, he does a great job. I just didn't think it was a good idea to say the legroom isn't stellar.
Great test drive! One thing, you don't have to put the car into manual mode to use the paddle shifters. You can operate them in regular drive mode. The CVT will switch back to automatic mode itself.
I like the Impreza hatchbacks, but they tend to be updated much slower than the other Subaru's. It looks like a 2012 Legacy interior/exterior. I'd also LOVE to see a 2.5 engine in there for that extra power. It would be worth the hit on fuel economy and make the car that much more fun to drive.
so I've had this car for about a year now and I've noticed it has been seeming to get a bit faster. I'm not sure how or why but it seems like it goes more now than it did. does anyone know why this might be?
@@fabianmorris6041 no, quite slow actually. especially going up hills. cvt isn’t doing it any favors, and the manual is pretty sloppy too unfortunately
41.1 m.p.g. on the display was quite good, calculated might be a little less, the displays have variations. Imprezas are really substantial cars. Two test drives were convincing between a sedan and hatch version both with CVT's. Even the transmission is excellent, it's just different for many. It's the fuel economy that counts, but the traction of AWD, overall dynamics and solid feel, it's within a top 10. If cross-shopping it's easy to figure out all the Impreza has going for it and the whole Subaru line-up. Soon the company is making another shift, there's a new Impreza in the next two years, it's a consideration that should be worth waiting for.
This has been the best car review I've seen. Well put together. Very informative, pays attention to detail and cuts out most of the bs that doesn't matter. Nicely done sir.
M K I have 84500 miles on it. Subarus are known for their long lifespan! I had a 2010 Forester that lasted about as long as the one you’re interested (my forester had 200,00+ miles). The only reason why I don’t have it anymore is because someone crashed into it while it was parked and totaled it! I highly recommend the Subaru Impreza! It’s a great car that will last!
M K it’s been great! I’ve had no issues with it! I have driven all around the US with it! It drives well, the acceleration is great, the radio is updated compared to older Subarus, and it’s very comfortable with heated seats for driver and passenger! I’ve gotten into an accident with mine ($8000 job but I got the job done!) and it came out the same way it used to be!
My friend test drove it, damn it was slow but the Eyesight is pretty neat, the salesperson turned it on and took his foot completely away from the brakes and the eyes did their thing. I drove the WRX and well, I can't sleep sometimes now.
I enjoy your auto reviews, but I think they need more variety. Maybe you prefer more family-type vehicles, and that's fine, but I think it's time to step away from the Subarus. I know you own one and are a fan, and they are great vehicles, but variety for your viewers is nice. I appreciated it when you did a truck review, as that was completely unexpected. Maybe consider reviewing the 2015 GMC Canyon. It was only reintroduced this year, and with only a very small number of 'midsize' trucks available in North America, it is class leading in every aspect. I think you'd appreciate it and it would be awesome to see you review another vehicle that so few people seem to be aware of.
You just need to toggle & hold the control to change the cruise speed by 1 mph increments. So if you toggle it quickly, it goes up/down by 5 mph, but if you push it up/down and hold it, it'll change by 1 mph increments, until you let go. And the mpg calculated by the car is ALWAYS too optimistic on my car. On my car, it's off by 1.5-2.5 mpg. That 41+ number is still crazy good, though. I've never been able to get anything that high. Then again, my drives are either really short (7-10 miles) or really long and fast (I-15, I-5) going 75+ mph. I barely manage 30-31 mpg on those long 5+ hour drives, which is actually not that bad in my opinion. I have this model (2015 Impreza Sport Limited w/ EyeSight(TM)), by the way. Adaptive cruise ROCKS on those long drives!
Have a Subby just like this with beige seats. Moved to a large city and I’ve found that I needed that 2.0 with CVT could be quicker for the traffic merging. Good mileage, might need to buy a ‘Vette!
If you get the chance, you should test the 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport with the EyeSight. Subaru has really improved over the 2015 model. It's like a whole different car. It's still not fast with only four extra horses. However the faster steering ratio (same as the BRZ) and tuning of the CVT makes a remarkable difference.
Hi Jason, what I'd really like to see in your videos is if you talk about fuel economy or torque data for example, it would be great if you'd put the numbers up on the screen and also add it in metric numbers aswell! :) And if you have a bit of money left, maybe get a better microphone. I think the sound in a video makes a huge difference ;) There's a comparison between some good studio mics on the LinusTechTips channel. Otherwise great content, keep it up! Regards from Germany
Hi, i'm just thinking of buying this car but the base model (not the Sport trim) I'm thinking for long trips and occasionally some dirt roads and mountain hills. Would you recomend this? Also, it would be with an automatic transmission. I know there is a lifted version, the XV Crosstrek, but at the moment i couldn't find any of those. And talking about that, it is true that the only differences between those models are lifted suspension and rugged bumpers and fenders? What about the engine and suspension? Can the XV Crosstrek parts be fitted to the Impreza? Thanks for the help.
Hey! How can you review any other Impreza with you have an STI?! Nice review anyway. I have a 2013 Legacy. I really wish they would make some "STI" version of the Legacy.. It's such a good platform, really solid!
Hi! Nice example, I have the base 2015 model. I just want to ask if the roof bars that goes along the length of the car (the black ones in this video) are compatible with the base Impreza 2015. I've seen it in the Sport trim but i wanna know if they fit on the base. Thanks!
I'd much rather have a good working 6 Spd Auto that "acts" like a CVT if you want it. The CVT is rated better MPG's because the lousy 5 Spd Manual they offer doesn't have a relaxed high gear. Indicated 3,200 RPM's at 70 mph! Subaru does make a 6 spd manual but chooses NOT to offer it in US Spec Imprezas and CrossTreks.
I have to say this now, before you Are famous. Thanks for teaching Me so much about cars and how they work! This is by far the BEST Channel! P.S the guinea pig to The right of my profile pic is named Jason.
Could you possibly do a video where you briefly (if possible) describe pros and cons of some of the engineering choices that you observe in your car reviews? For example, pt comment on things such as "engine cover or no engine cover", "battery up front or drivers side or passenger side", "plastic intake manifold vs other materials", etc. Obviously you wouldn't be able to go into a lot of detail while keeping the length of the video reasonable, but because your car reviews are so detailed it would be really helpful and interesting (not to everyone surely, but to me) if I had some idea of whether what you are talking about is a "good thing" or a "not so good thing". Is an engine cover so bad? If so, why? And why do manufacturers use them? Advantages to no using them? If this question is way too broad, perhaps you could just satisfy my curiosity with regards to engine covers and battery placement for now...? Thanks.
I have in the earlier reviews, but stopped somewhat to prevent it from being super repetitive. Perhaps I'll reinclude some details throughout reviews with time.

Hi, I like all your videos! I also like your engineering knowledges! A question, what is your opinion on wheel spacers? 20mm on wrx, is it really going to do something bad to your suspensions, wheel bearings on such? Thanks a lot in advance! Hopefully you could do a video explain the good and bad:)
On the cruise control, a quick flick goes up / down in increments of 5, holding it goes up/down in increments of 1. Seems that they should have had it the opposite way.
I test drove two impreza's, one from 2012 and 2014. As good as they are, I just felt that they really should be improved with three things. Steering feel, a bit tighter suspension (however I never tried the sport trim so idk) , and most of all that manual transmission(at least use a wrx short throw shifter or something like that because it just feels so sloppy)
Hi, you know how the oil filter in this car (and the new wrx) is placed open side down on the top of the engine bay, well if you unscrew it and take it off to change it, does it just spill oil all over everything?
I thought the seats in my Impreza were too wide, at first. The foam breaks in though. After a while it becomes a non-issue. It's almost like you get a custom-fit seat cushion.
Hello I lime your video I'm looking into buying a new car next year. but have no idea what kind of car should I look it to is there a wedside for best car or something? I'm a college student and work full time I need something I could realize on... Idk were star. Plz help if u can
Subaru has a physical key inside of the keys to unlock the door when your battery runs out. You have to press on this silver button in the back and pull the physical key out from the top. (Source: I own the 2015 Impreza)
Thank you for your videos with info... I will buy a Subaru from the agency and they do recommend me to choose among Subaru Impreza sport or WRX? for resign of performance and efficiency what do you reccomend?!!
+Josh Pitpitan From what I understand, the Impreza is very different from the WRX or the WRX STI. It uses a different engine, lacks a turbo, different suspensions, different AWD system. It will take a lot of money and time to mod an Impreza for it to deliver performance. If you just want a faster, more performance oriented car, you should go with the WRX. So I don't believe it is worth to mod this car.
MyRandomCommentsXD the wrx has that FA engine right... Also I really want to mod the impreza out because I don't like how Subaru stopped making the wrx hatchback I really loved the hatchback so I just bought the impreza sport and imma see if I can mod it hopefully I can or else its gonna suck
I have a 2014 Subaru Impreza Sport Hatchback in white and I really like it. Pretty fast for a 4 cylinder 2.0! Get around fast and in confidence. People look at this car when I pass and seen people look around it at a restraunt. AWD is the best during harsh Indiana winters!!
Engineering Explained: Is the lack of power felt while passing traffic on freeways? I have driven a Honda Civic 2016 with 2.0 i4 and 155hp, which is just 7 more than this and its a breeze to pass traffic.
Erick perez Possible? Yes. You would probably have to find someone to put together custom piping for the turbos, intercooler, and exhaust. You'd have to put at least a couple thousand dollars worth of labor into it.
Subaru should have put the base model Legacy's 2.5 boxer four in the Impreza, probably wouldn't be as easy to work on but at least it would have some grunt.
Hi Jason, I own a 2014 second hand subaru Impreza, (fairly stock) and I've noticed that the CVT sits at incredibly low RPMs (round a thousand) when moving at 40-30kmphr, which is fine, until you get on a subtle up-hill gradient... I've found the engine gets really lurchy so I've found that hitting the paddle shifters tells me I'm in the "5th" virtual gear. It just seems a bit high to me, and I'm concerned that due to the low RPMs the CVT is literally stalling my engine for me unless I manually take over. Is this something that can be fixed? Or perhaps I'm misreading what's going on? I hope it's not a faulty engine.
It's very refreshing that somebody actually learns about the car before the review. All the technical details are very appreciated. Keep up the great work guys. :)

Hi, you know how the oil filter in this car (and the new wrx) is placed open side down on the top of the engine bay, well if you unscrew it and take it off to change it, does it just spill oil all over everything?
joshehutch You should remove the drain plug first, then the filter.
What kind of camera & mount did you use to shoot the first person interior shot? Thanks.
Plz help if u can
Imprezas are nice but I can't see myself in another one of these especially after having a wrx for like 6 years.
bmwmsport11 Same here man, turbo subaru's are addicting.
Hi, I have a limited WRX sti 2015 with keyless. My question is my battery die and I can't unlock the doors. Any suggestion? Thanks
Subaru has a physical key inside of the keys to unlock the door when your battery runs out. You have to press on this silver button in the back and pull the physical key out from the top. (Source: I own the 2015 Impreza)
Thank you for your videos with info...
I will buy a Subaru from the agency and they do recommend me to choose among
Subaru Impreza sport or WRX? for resign of performance and efficiency
what do you reccomend?!!
would it be worth to mod this car???
+Josh Pitpitan no. spend the money on a wrx.
+MyRandomCommentsXD how come???
+Josh Pitpitan Of course you can mod it. But you should make a budget before you start. Plan it well man, otherwise you'll regret it...
I have a 2014 Subaru Impreza Sport Hatchback in white and I really like it. Pretty fast for a 4 cylinder 2.0! Get around fast and in confidence. People look at this car when I pass and seen people look around it at a restraunt. AWD is the best during harsh Indiana winters!!
agreed. i have a 2015 and although it's only got 150hp, when it hits the power band it can get up to 60-70 pretty fricken quick. i love it so much.
thomasthetrain789 I'm hopefully buying one tomorrow. Also in Indiana.
late reply but we've got the 2016 and its a lively little thing, not much power but its fun
thomasthetrain789
Any recalls?
Like airbags?
I've owned one which I've modded as well but let's be honest it's pretty slow
Do these subarus with the cvt made my JATCO?
Nice review. Disappointed with the performance of that engine though. Put a Honda engine in it lol. 😅😅
you should do a video on how to parallel park.. there isn't any good videos out there of this
Any issues on cvt and oil consumption in this model?
First! Keep up the great work man!
Can you do a video on procharging, and how it works together?
Engineering Explained: Is the lack of power felt while passing traffic on freeways?
I have driven a Honda Civic 2016 with 2.0 i4 and 155hp, which is just 7 more than this and its a breeze to pass traffic.
Test drive!
Theoretically speaking, do you think a turbocharged EJ25 off of an STI could fit inside the impreza? And essentially create the 2015 STI hatchback?
Erick perez Nah, Subaru loves to cram engines into the bay, as you can see in this video. This was a 2.0 and fitting a 2.5 STI engine would be hell
Subaru's are like lego's of course you could, just need engine mounts new steering rack. People have fit the ez30 into GC8 imprezas.
Erick perez Possible? Yes. You would probably have to find someone to put together custom piping for the turbos, intercooler, and exhaust. You'd have to put at least a couple thousand dollars worth of labor into it.
RC Love It's the same engine bay as the STi !! It's the same car (essentially)! Of course it's possible, just not worth the effort. Just buy an STi.
haha it looks like at 7:30 you tried to change the gear and your hand was confused. xD
Is there an STI wagon yet?
this or the XV Crosstrek?
+David Ha no, the xv is more raised, not sure if it has more space.
+Carlos Pereira
It doesn't. The xv is an impreza with a lift kit and more aggressive bumper covers. Everything else is exactly the same.
Is this a deep blue sea pearl with black interior??
Subaru should have put the base model Legacy's 2.5 boxer four in the Impreza, probably wouldn't be as easy to work on but at least it would have some grunt.
Skyline Drive?
How do the options beside the wheel work? The automated signals?
I have the exact same car same color except mine is a 2012, I a have 206,000 miles on it, thinking of maybe next year getting the Crosstrek.
Have you had any issues with the transmission over the 206K miles?
was going to get a genesis coupe as a sports car but considering getting this as a new dd instead. That mpg is attractive.
Did you use a helmet cam for the interior tour?
CVT trans usually have a warranty of 10 years check with your dealer to see if your car is still up for a fix( they just swap in a new one)
