The argument you said about the game being skill based is so true for example I played sword of canvalaria last week I thought the same thing and got really hyped for a skill based game but after some chapters you realize that no matter how skilled you are you can't beat a stage because of the time limit which limits the skill factor may be skill only game can't be a gacha game

    • @yria7255
      @yria7255 Месяц назад +11

Rip to Alchemist Code, it didnt have turn limits and was the only good trpg gacha for a long time. However, i do think it is somewhat unfair to use this definition of skill based for the trpg genre, cuz of the nature of turn based games, where the number of possible scenarios of victory have been massively reduced compared to something like arknights. Theres a hard limit to the number of actions u can take every turn, whereas ak ur limited only by either the game engine itself or ur own actions per minute. Theres only so many tiles your lvl 1 unit can occupy b4 the enemy catches up, barring the scenario where u r ranged, have higher movement range, and the enemy is only using 1 tile range attacks. Put any elden ring boss fight onto a grid and only allow x moves/turn and the chance of victory becomes significantly more unlikely unless x exceeds the actions/min of the og game. Turn based inherently limits ur actions b4 any additional "clear in x turns".
Ofc thats not to say it isnt skill based at all. Its definitely more engaging than most mobile turn based. Each event also has stgs where a predetermined roster is given to u, so you are guaranteed that victory is not limited by stats, the skill is if you can figure out the puzzle (some of the extra conditions can be kind of tricky too)

Arknights is skill based, there is literally a culture of self imposed restrictions within the community called “nicheknights” , people will either follow or create their own niche and I’ve seen all sorts of weird ones going from only playing with characters of the same species or same class to stuff like only playing with characters born on a certain month or with art draw by a certain artist.

I've been playing daily since the global launch of the game and thought I'd give my 2 cents on the stuff you covered
The gameplay imo is really fun, and all the characters and weapons are diverse enough that it doesn't feel repetitive
The progression is worse than you think, the further on you go the more gank you have to deal with. In one of the latest chapters you have to survive about 2 minutes waves of enemies that spawn in around 10 second intervals. In addition to that, there are enemies shooting at you from a distance you cannot kill. It took me a few hours to get past that level and i only did it by ignoring the enemies that were spawning and trying to anticipate the long ranged ones i could not kill.
I get that they want to prevent players from reaching the end of the current story update and loose players until they update it, but by god that feels like a reach considering that the daily grind at minimum is 2 hours.
For instance and encore dungeons, initially you could've only spent 1-2 keys at a time f2p, and the subscriptions would get you up to 4. As you can see now they increased f2p up to 4, but then the subscription to 8.
The artifact grind looks bad because it is bad. There is a stat called "Healing Given Increase" for artifacts, and it does what the name implies, make healing skills better. The issue? The meta is pumping all your stats into strength for jin woo to maximize damage output since being able to tank any enemy hits doesn't matter if you only have 3 mins to kill them all. That artifact stat has been the bane of this grind's existence as it can make getting the perfect drops an RNG nightmare. It was complained about so much that the devs said that they will remove "Healing Given Increase" as a sub-stat entirely, restricting it to only come up as a main stat
Another thing is that all the rings are based on elemental damage, so if the main stat doesn't align with the character you equip it to, its basically useless
e.g. Light hunter equipped with a ring whose main stat is Wind Damage % will not add any damage, so you have to keep grinding main stats while keeping in mind that you are also looking for specific sub-stats
The separate weapon banner is a new addition from the last update, and are the rarest tickets to get at the moment so it makes sense to me that they keep weapons in the custom banners for now
TL;DR: This video perfectly describes the SLA experience, however, as you get closer to the end game the experience gets worse.

    • @randomcat1151
      @randomcat1151 Месяц назад +6

Another arise player here and speaking of progression, I am still currently questioning the devs' decision of putting hidden chapter 1 and 2 in between the previous update's chapters and the new ones, it could've been made a side story of sorts and yet they decided to make put it in the main story. Whilst on the topic of hidden chapter, I might as well make an example of why progression is a problem in this game, the boss level of hidden chapter 1 has a huge jump from the previous level: if you were able to at least make decent damage to the enemy on the previous level, normal enemies in the boss level take "tanky" to a whole different level.

Need an update on this video:
Gate keys now are 15 and you can now refresh gates (no cooldown needed)
Encore and instance dungeons are both 6 keys + 2 keys from the shop (mana exchange shop)
There are also other dungeons such as Battlefield of Trials (spiral abyss version on genshin), Battlefield of Time (boss clearing), Battlefield of Chaos (where you get gems) ,Power of Destruction (can get multiple rewards base on your score), Workshop of Brillant Light (can get higher gears here that cannot be found on encore and instance)
Does the second rate-up guarantee carryover across banners as well? The answer is YES.
There's also another catch in the gacha system here. If a character banner ends, the character will go the standard banner after the next banner ends. Meaning you can have another chance on getting it (25% if you select it as 1 of your 4 rate up character/weapon on the standard banner) If you are a f2p like me, you can just get an A0 character on the limited banner and then get the get the other copies once they go to the standard banner.
Guild system was the latest update (typical guild system just like on every games)
Devs are also generous on giving rewards. Almost everyday they give rewards.

as a f2p player with approx. 3 months of playing the game, i'd say it is quite enjoyable and there are enough ways to get new characters and the developers do make good qol changes and listen to complaints (SOMETIMES). its def one of the better gacha games and there is still a lot of skill expression involved, even if their is the statcheck factor. I havent looked into the monetization at all tho, which is where all gachas turn evil anyway. staying f2p is always the best option imo, and in this one it doesnt take any fun away

  • @chrisgodfrey1880

Netmarble is notoriously bad with monetization. I used to play one of their non gacha games, Marvel Future Fight, and it just got worse and worse over time. It wasn't as bad with 7 Deady Sins Grand Cross, but still definitely felt greedy at times even more than other gacha games from other publishers.
I also tried Solo Leveling and left because how annoying the monetization was. And endgame content also gets to a point where it requires not only good gear and leveling, but dupes in order to reach the Battle Power requirements. Feels really scummy when I need multiple copies of the limited characters to feel like I can progress properly. Maybe I just sucked at the game, but the Stat requirements made me feel otherwise

As much as people shit on this game, I have to give credit where credit is due, this game is incredibly fun for the first 10-20 hours all the way up until progression gets severely hard capped to f2p's because your resource strained and lvl strained. This game also has a very high skill ceiling which not many people are willing to reach. Overall its not a "bad" game, its just egregiously monetized and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I wholeheartedly agree with that time limit statement. Stage with time limit is never a skill-based. It's always DPS-check, no matter how cope people says.
Also, it's Netmarble. I remember spent more time installing and updating the game rather than playing it. My personal experience with this game is, they have a mouse cursor in the center of the screen. Yes, a MOUSE CURSOR. And every menu got joystick button shortcut.

The only thing that you haven't mentioned is that even though monetization in this game is absolutely terrible, you actually can play it without every paying completely fine. Arise gives a lot of resources for free. And compared to many other gachas, they actually give insane amount of rewards. Like to the point where good F2P players can complete the same content as whales. You can get all SSR hunters as a F2P. And you definitely can get all the necessary ones without much issue. This game is very F2P friendly, though in a very passive-aggressive way.

I have been playing the game since the official release of the game (May 2024) and I am an entirely F2P player. I do agree with some of the points mentioned here, but you can actively choose to ignore the pay to win features totally. I am currently rated top 8 in my server even as a F2P and I have accepted the the fact that I can't reach any higher than that. But the content and challenge of the game has drawn to me to the game a lot more. Micromanaging the resources and creating best use of my current items has helped a lot.
It might be frustrating at first for a very new player, but the resources come by very easily if you are JUST REGULAR at the game and do the dailies properly.

I played as f2p up until the anniversary and the f2p experience is absolutely garbage, so many Qol locked behind paywalls. The way characters are dropped is terrible. Here's a (insert element here) dps...the next character to drop will be a dedicated support for that dps.
Here's a fun thing you didn't mention or might not have noticed about the timers. You can kill the boss and watch the timer continue on for 5- 10 seconds before you get the actual clear flag. Real fun.
Cash grab, countless bugs that have been there since launch , new content centered around the element of the new character they will drop. Everything about this game is shit.

  • @Silz42
    @Silz42 Месяц назад +1

Player since launch day, while I can't say I'm fully F2P since I tried the 2 monthly subscription versions but after that month I stopped any thoughts of spending. I could say that progression is definitely steep, one must better buckle up to fail and fail some more. You have to grind for weeks if needed, the relic rng is just so livid. You have to also brace yourself in low rewards in some events/modes which whales flap around (understandable).
The game is good in bare minimum level and what keeping me is probably the gacha rate and rewards a F2P received, up till this point I have never gone down from 30k gems and I pull every unit. I give them credit with that, heck they even put a whole 10 pulls in codes or randomly give one in mails.
I know its paywall and fomo inducing but it really is decent, I run in auto and clear everything... well progressively (still farming to prepare in getting lvl80+ relics).
I know IP is also a factor I like this, watching my Cha get maxed Breakthrough and cleave enemies is great or seeing a celebrity turned hunter is also exciting.
It is also astonishing they gave 4 skins almost 4 months since launch, not saying too generous but they definitely know how to give carrots.
Anyway, overall if you are finding a casual game, this could give a few high (knowing that vertical progression is not easily seen pass Ch9), so gamer patience advised.
If competitive and f2p, well you can still try but know that it'll be a steep climb that allows few to no mistakes and a world of depression. The top rewards ain't that worth to pursue anyway.
if spending, heck no get the hell out if you can't deal well with FOMO or has zero financial stability. GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER!
Sidenote though this is just side gacha in the bg, I play Alchemy Stars, Path to Nowhere, Aether Gazer, Snowbreak, HSR, Rev1999 and WuWa with this (and yes I still get to have a life and work, heck I'm even studying in college).
Again, is it good to play?Maybe. Is it good to spend, no and NO!

I would be so interested in his opinion of Warhammer Tacitus. The obvious downsides are IP based, not a great story, and (currently) no pity system. However, it's leveling system is very F2P, no pulling for gear, lots of content, frequent events and updates, and the fact you don't need SS/legendary characters to progress. Some of the best characters are common/uncommon/rare, and all characters can be converted to legendary.

The game is EXTREMELY fun, I've played it 3months straight every single day because it has the most fun combat in any gacha I've ever played(Haven't tried PGR yet), it has a high skill ceiling. I was already a fan of solo leveling before, read the novel and manga multiple times so experiencing the boss fights ingame is great, I suggest you watch the 12episode anime as an introduction to the story at least. Yes, the game is annoying constantly giving you flash sales and tempting you with value offers. BUT, this is also the most F2P friendly gacha at the same time, they give you absolutely INSANE amounts of free pulls constantly, and new characters have events where you can get them for free as well. You really only start to experience any negatives at endgame, where resources are scarce and there's a limit to how much you can grind for gear each day, but it's the thing that keeps you playing, slowly getting decent gear, upgrading characters and getting your combat power up to do more content. I won't call it pay 2 win, if you want to beat the new endgame content that comes out sure it's only for the whales, but you can do it later when they nerf it for everyone else or you catch up. One of my favorite things about the game is the competitive aspect, you compete with other people in your server on challenges which are basically speedruns, but the great thing is there are also modes where gear is standardized so it's not just whales getting the top ranks. The devs are really good as well, they listen to the community and constantly add QOL improvements. This game isn't a skip at all, it holds my attention MUCH longer than any other gacha ever did.

Quick rebuttal to the "skill based" argument. Solo levling is what i call a "skill-based Dps check". You can be around the ball park of damage requirer to clear a certain stage but without the skill/know-how of the stages and bosses mechanics as well as which weapons to pair with which skills, youll almost always eat dirt. Take "battlefield of time" for instance. The difference between you clewring it in 1min vs 3 mins isnt based on combat power but rather the boss of the stage, where the mobs spawn, WHICH mobs spawn, positioning ,weapon choice ,the element required (which also depicts the skill combinations you pick) etc etc.
Even instance and encore dungeons have a great level of "skill vs brawn" ratio to them. Im currentpy at 500k cp clearing 600k and up dungeons.
Yes, the game is a gacha and the whole point of the manhwa is to level up so youre bound to partake in typical gachaisms. But out of the ARPGS ive played (with the exception of maybe Pgr) solo levling definitely fits thr bill for "skill based".

I am subscribing after this, so don’t worry. I am quite proud of you for making valid points. Just another comment said I had some troubles of the game lagging, even though I had many other gacha take up more space but don’t lag like this game. The only point that I have to disagree with you is the skill part where it comes to the levels because I have to argue that it is quite necessary, especially since for most of these games it’s a base game so it wouldn’t make as much sense for you to be weak as hell, but still challenged those bosses. I personally believe that the requirements is absolutely necessary, I will agree with you on the timer, which is something I absolutely hate, and that removes much skill and it makes it more harder to beat the content because you have a pacific time limit. Altogether though this is a well formatted video and I’m quite proud of you for making this video and trying to go so far while trying to make the review and you earn my respect.

I've seen that on Play Store a few times and wanted to try it, but no EN localization was a dealbreaker. Has that changed?

@@WadeWontson i have played it recently and yes it has EN now but the translation sometime wrong but it just minor issue and you can still read the skill and story like normal and it is on steam for any PC player.

I'll never understand why people like "the weakest but am actually strongest lmao" trope nor a game where it's just endless farming.

I have been playing this game since day 1 of release. I’m still enjoying it but I understand it not for everyone, I’m f2p and been playing it casually. It a pve game so don’t rush and eventually as your level going up, you will beat almost all the challenges of the game.

One reason I avoid this type of game is the Battle Power (BP) system. Essentially, if you spend a lot of money, you can clear difficult content on auto mode, while free-to-play (F2P) players have to work much harder. This ties into another issue: endgame modes where you compete against other players in rankings. While I can't say for sure how much reward differences there are between rankings, it's obvious that whales, who can kill bosses faster, dominate the top spots since the best rewards go to them.
I've also noticed new gear tied to a new game mode, which further exacerbates my dislike for the BP system. In some games, developers continually add more ways to increase BP. Just when you think you're catching up to the whales, they introduce new mechanics that make it easier for high spenders to stay ahead, while F2P players struggle to keep pace.
As for the gacha system, it initially seems promising since new characters are added to both the limited and standard banners after one month and we have a wish list. But here's the catch: dupes provide a significant advantage and increase BP. So, even if you manage to pull a new character, you need duplicates to maintain or boost your BP. To make matters worse, the game now introduces two limited characters at once, so not only do you need to spend to get both, but you also have to shell out more to get the necessary dupes.

To answer the question of does the guaranteed rate up carry over to the next banner if you lost your last pull and didn't pull anymore, yes it does. They do a poor job communicating alot of things in this game for sure, and we've learned through trial and error on that one. I appreciate all your criticisms of the game here, its nice to see reality checks to keep the brain pan screwed on straight.

I been forgetting to try this one out. Gameplaywise it doesnt look bad and I really like Solo Leveling, but ever since Wuwa came out its really hard for other hack slash gachas to interest me.
I feel like with gachas like NTE and Project Mugen coming out soon we are entering a new era of gacha, where devs will really have to put effort if they want their gacha to make money or even survive against the competition at all.
