I know the character design was meant to be based off of the designs from the cartoon, but everyone else looks fairly normal and I think it would have looked much better if they had designed them like normal people. I also think that they made them too much like actual monsters instead of normal people with gothic tastes. In the 1991 and 1993 movies and 1960' TV show they were just misunderstood people but in this they were genuine monsters who actually gave people a good reason to be scared of them.

I like the original style of the Addams family more. Where they were strange but didn’t realize it. They thought they were normally and completely oblivious to everyone who thought they were weird. They were purposely trying to be strange or different. Just had no idea that they were being strange. In fact they would often misinterpret people being scared and running away as other people being weird. It far more humorous. And a lot less. Oh this is gross or opposite to what the average people are like so thats what the Addams like.
I didn't like the movie at all, it sent a message that didn't sit right with me. The Addams family are people who loved themselves and didn't seem to care what people thought if the people around them lost their prejudices they would see that beyond the scary stuff the family were warm and kind-hearted people who just lived their lives normally. They didn't try to isolate themselves and actually reached out to people this movie completely lost the point of the Addams family.
I think part of why the Addams family is so artistically appealing is our desire for wealth, power, and the ability to pursue our own creative endavors without being judged.
It was originally supposed to be Tim Burton doing another stop motion animation film. That turned into 3D. Which is just one of the many problems with this, but that's one big reason for the visuals looking so..."off."

The Addams Family Reunion from 1998 was terrible and the New Addams Family which was from around that time too was pretty bad. There are some other misses in there also. And I'm so baffled by it. This wasn’t a bad intro, but a lot of this movie didn’t work. It was like someone who doesn’t get the Addams family wrote an Addams family script. The fact that EVERYONE in this world looks freaky also detracts from the Addams. It’s like how the Chocolate factory in Tim Burton’s movie didn’t seem as cool after seeing how the entire world is stylized.

The guillotine in her bed is most likely always there because that’s a very Addams thing to do, but it could be from Pugsly trying to murder his sister. It’s kind of an ongoing thing they do that you’d occasionally see in the show, instead of playing tag they’d play The Electric Chair and other life threatening things like that, it’s also encouraged by the rest of the family given that the whole point of the Addams Family was to be abnormal in every way. (Which is actually why Gomez and Morticia are so loving and caring in the series on screen because that was viewed as odd at the time of the show too) I’ve heard the animated film doesn’t really do the series as a whole justice and kind of lost track of the charm that The Addams Family produced but people who haven’t seen any of the tv show or movies found it charming in its own way. All in all I love the series and couldn’t recommend it more to anyone, the tv show is hilarious, if not a little repetitive, and the movies have their own unique charm that they bring to the table. I’ve yet to see this one though.
