It's the punchline of a whole scene and it's a masterpiece. From a 12 year old. Yes we should be singing her praises for that. That's the moment that Jenna has to beat I'm afraid. Could be a while. It's unfair on Jenna slightly - it's a different Wednesday she's playing. It's less darkly comic and the whole vibe is less slapstick. I think the whole show doesn't quite know what it is yet and that's really tough on a young actress in a lead role. Probably tougher on an 18 year old than a 12 year old in many ways. Ortega is trying really hard and unfortunately the show sometimes lets us see that - editors and camera and directors letting her do the heavy lifting. They should be helping her. Even the edit for Ricci's smile is funny - the way the kids step back - the reactions from support cast - it's just a different class of production I'm afraid. I was hoping we'd get more of that feel when I saw Burton's name but it's like they haven't let him be Burtonesque enough. Tough to do 8-10 hours of script when you specialise in 1.5 though.

Wednesday was saying the blonde girl is the type of person who will be a victim her entire life. The overbite comment was a knock on her (and most of the other girls at camp) being the type of privileged airhead who got plastic surgery to become "perfect" before they're even teenagers.
That was good, but my favorite part was that disturbing-ass smile at 7:39. I doubt many adult actors could pull off something so creepy. Wednesday stole every scene she was in.

Christina Ricci played the young Wednesday perfectly in a comedy movie, while Jenna Ortega played the teen crime detective Wednesday perfectly. Both are great in their own ways and genre.
Yeah, I'd like to see the guy who made hereditary or the evil dead take a swing at it. Go real dark, that would be interesting, turn them into a distributing surreal spectacle.
I find the Ortega version to be kind of annoying in character. She keeps making remarks about suicide and harming herself, but never actually pulls with anything through, which makes her seem like an attention-seeker.

In this situation; this is a play that is blatantly racist by the community. (Take into account how the Sarah Miller is admired and complimented. And hwo she calls the natives primitives and savage.). Wednesday here is sticking true to the grim part of history and takes on a more chaotic, if not callous disposition to History. There's also the matter that all the "cute and accepted people" are the pilgrims. While Wednesday and the other "rejectS" are put into more comical or laughing stock roles.
This is her way of getting back at the community and focus on what would happen in the past.

Let us say, for kicks, that the Native American tribes did kill the pilgrims (for no God given reason might I add). I think you're really just underlining the moral of the "most cringe part", though I think you're trying to call it out in some manner? It doesn't matter what the Native Americans did - the outcome was logistically fixed the moment a technologically advanced society encountered and mingled with a primitive one. The advanced society has all the cards, and so dictates willfully and/or unconsciously the primitive one.
The question and moral is; as members of an advanced society, how do we choose to engage with others? The question will continue to come up in history - it is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. It's always relevant. I'm not going to cry over the disintegration of my heritage, but perhaps it can be learned from. Someday.

It was nice to see Christina Ricci in this new Wednesday series. I'm glad she got a role in it, because she was the one that gave Wednesday such a grim and emotionless tone that everyone identifies her with. Seeing her in the show was kinda sentimental for all of us who grew up with her version.

Even then, I don't think we should feel sorry the pilgrims were attacked, I think there is a reason the natives wouldn't be happy about them taking even the worse plots of lands. Not just her forehead. Her tone of voice and and lack of facial expressions are so natural. Imo it doesn’t come off as natural from jenna. Also personally I think some people like the show BECAUSE of Jenna and that’s it. Jenna looks like she’s acting when it’s supposed to feel natural.
