Cool trail!! 2wd with air downed A/T’s, some clearance and a rear locker will tackle a lot of obstacles without problem. Put the 2wd’s in the middle and the 4wd at head and rear.
Great road. I’ve had the pleasure of driving it a few times in my 2006 Hummer H2 that I converted into an Overlanding vehicle. Y’all looked like y’all had a great time.
Thanks for the update planning on doing black gap Alone in a lifted AWD RAV4 lol will see if I make it up or turn around I’m bring shovels and max tracks
Man in the Silverado was an absolute menace lol. Definitely had no business on that trail. Good on y’all for figuring out how to make it work. Awesome video!
Everyone should be required to sign a waiver that they will drive like its the baja 1000 😂❤ looks like fun but the baja dudes with 2wd are unstoppable.
I like your xterra a lot! I live in Houston and plan to hit those trails sometime this year! I am currently working on my Xterra and getting in prepared! Nice video!
Hey man this is a great video. I just got back from Big Bend and I've only been down black Gap pass once, and that was probably about 24 years ago with my family in a jeep. It was very gnarly back then. A lot of washouts on that slope. We've been riding our enduro dirt bikes, dual sport motorcycles or whatever y'all call them nowadays down the trails and I have not been down Black Gap because I thought it might be too gnarly for the dirt bikes but it seems like it would be doable. Thanks for the video and great teamwork getting everybody through there I loved it
kaystyle1 for this trip we are staying in Presidio at Riata 🏨 this is kinda like our scout trip to learn about the place and find out about camping sites......look me up in FB Joe Switchman Hydraulics Zamora
Lol. I’ve run BG 4 times since this video. This was painful to watch. Try that again now after the January rain... it’s not anything like this anymore. Last fall the trail was gravy. 🤣
The chevy was a trail tampon simply because the driver couldn't drive. The key when driving with 2wd or 4wd in general is to keep the drive wheels on the ground as much as possible, so line choice and tire placement is crucial. The side steps were not helping either though.
its easy to judge behind the screen. some of us are moderate trail runners and guided him as best as we could. side steps are necessary for his elder family who has to get on. it made more sense for him to drive the chevy rather than his trail ready 4Runner 1200mi for big bend. your comment point was lost the minute you typed "trail tampon".you sound like a guy who cant get laid and resort to taking out your anger making sexist remarks on youtube.
@@victorvela2223 trail tampon is a legitimate term for a vehicle that plugs up a trail either due to driver incompetence or a vehicle that has no reason to be out there.there is nothing sexist about it. That was a mild trail and line placement was still key.
what kind of clearance between the body and ground would you think is good? looking at picking up a new midsize 2wd truck and want to have something capable for basic offroad.
How difficult is this road compared to most/other backcountry roads in Big Bend? I'm trying to camp in some of the "Improved Dirt Roads" backcountry sites in the park and don't know if my 2wd vehicle can handle it.
The rangers do baby sit you. The park is enormous with endless miles. You can take whatever you drive into the park on the dirt roads/trails. Be aware that if you get stuck on your own, it may be a while before you get help
Air downed all-terrain tires and that Silverado shouldn't have had an issue. Though a front level and a 1.5" spacer in the rear probably wouldn't hurt either.
The reason the Silverado didn’t make it up the two obstacles is because he doesn’t have an LSD (limited slip differential) he had an open differential meaning when a wheel was spinning the other wheel wouldn’t so he essentially went with 1WD
That thing was a beast! The ac started having issues and it became a headache so I traded it in for the Subaru. It was the wife’s truck and wanted her to have something newer and nicer
@@OverlandNomad dope bro. We just got our 2010 4x4 this year. Well be building that up into an overlander for this summer. So stoked. I really wish you lived out here in Cali man, trying to find some people to overland with.
I noticed at the flat tire at the end of the video. Did you guys air down? I’m new to off roading, so excuse me if it’s a dumb question. Enjoying your channel.
I recently bought a 2019 TRD ORP. Can’t wait to get it on a trail. Not much here in Louisiana but mud. Any trails on TX I can drive on with a stock vehicle? Big Bend is 12 hrs away for us. *Traded in a 2012 Silverado 2wd. Glad I did after watching the Silverado in this vid. 😂

I'm surprised the Land Rover didn't fall apart! 😎
Was probably the most comfortable though
For how garbage they are I'm always surprised to see them in the real world. Nothing loses value faster than a Range Rover 😂

Be cool to see more nissan love! Pathfinder, frontier, and xterra
That Chevy just needed some more speed. Props to him for trying though👏
Nice vid. Ill be there end of Feb on a bike.

That winter texan pelleting the tacomas windshield at 3:27
Thats a brand new windshield and my beautiful paint 😒
YO VICTOR!!!!
Id like to thank Jake for reminding everyone how toyotas dominate!🏋️♂️ Also what happen to the 4runner or lancruiser? Or John's 2nd gen?
They stayed home lol
I'm gonna be making this trip from the Valley soon! Perfect time for some social distancing. Glad I found your channel!
Going this weekend I’m from Valley also.....leaving Friday.
@@switchman956 Do you have a campsite booked, or are you going to try a walk-up site?

Call me a liar, but sometime in the 90s, I took this road in a blue geo metro. Cooler of budwieser in the passenger seat and had the trip of my life.
Shoot that road was rough in my 4x4 Tacoma closer to the end. ( I went north)There’s some bottom banger rocks after going thru the gap

This was awesome, really well made
Good stuff.
What the heck was that Chevy Sled doing off a paved road??😂😂😂😂
That was a cool vid. Subbed!
Did you drive the Xterra on 2 Wheel Dr. the whole time I wanna know because I have a 2 Wheel Dr.
i drove the xterra on 4wd but the tacoma and silverado drove on 2wd
I did it just today with a suburban.
How long were you all there? Same as last time? Tribe is getting bigger, nice...
love my 4x4 v8 swapped nissan xterra :)

Did the Taco have / use rear diff locker?
thomas dipaolo negative. Open diffs. All driver skill 🤟🏻
Is the Tacoma open dif?

What size lift and tires was the Tacoma running? I have a 2wd suburban with a g80 but my only problem mainly is clearance
Planning on bringing my rwd tundra here next week, was therr problem with the park rangers not allowing you in with 2wd?
We never saw one out there

This is my wife’s Xterra lol never show it. And also the 4Runner is long gone 😬
Why not? Everyone enjoys the more powerful options 😉

Irie Vibes sidewall puncture. Jakes 4Runner was aired down lightly to about 30psi i believe. One of the 3 flats he had on this adventure😆

I believe they are completely closed check their website. i know for a fact backcountry is closed
Isn't black gap road considered the hardest off-road trail in Texas....if so it's not that hard lol
I don't think it is. I believe the hardest one is the MAverick trail. Black Gap isn't even in the top 10, because it's mostly scenic with 2 obstacles and side route that most ppl miss, and that side route has a hard sway.
spent some time in fort davis, love that area out there

Do you think a stock 4runner off road 5th generation should be ok on that road?
Yes definitely
Did you guys deflate your tires any?
I don’t remember but probably not
How’s the reliability been on that X-Terra
Just sold it but it was super reliable
It reminds me of driving the Sierra based 2wd truck in GTA SA
Does any of the 2wd have lockers?
No lockers in this video other than the Xterra
OverlandNomad ok thanks
Hows the Xterra out there? Easy stuff?
Walk in the park
Do you think a stock clearance Lexus could make it?
Dude I think so. My Subaru has .2 inches more clearance than the stock Xterra and the Xterra did it
Another tip weld your diff😂
This lifestyle is my retirement plan.
Got my badge of honor for my burban today from Chrysler fiat
5:32 Music to my ears! If you're afraid to baptize a vehicle, maybe off-road isn't for you?
Doesn't look like any of you aired down.
My old honda accord could do this. I dont ever use my f150 unless theres mud or rocks.
You guys need some lockers
Lockers need us
2wd with clearance and a rear locker. That Silverado is open diff.
That’s exactly what I noticed. No G80
It's really stupid trying to off road in a truck that low. It's like they've never heard of lift kits.
Get a diff locker
Need locker
Ok go buy one 👍🏼
The Chevy will probably do better taking off the runners...👍👊😎
#XTERRANISMO
Why in gods name would he take a 2wd only ? What a burden for everyone else. Should have just rode with someone else
Because why not?
