I love the install Jeff. You’ll notice your CarPlay icons are on the left for LH drive models. There should be a setting to switch them to the right. 😊
I am glad it all worked out Jeff. You are a brave man. The PCM unit is expensive to replace if you break it. Mine failed under warranty. I had a look at the bill to replace the unit, it was just under AUD$5000.
@@HomeBuiltByJeff Ep 4 of Harry when you are removing the gas tank is one of my 'favorite' of those moments. Drops tank: Perfect! ... oh shit. *fuel proceeds to paint the garage floor*
Hey Jeff. You also might be interested into the PCCM Unit from the official Porsche Classic for your 911. Afaik it comes with CarPlay already but you’ll have to switch your whole System. It sells for about 1500€ over here in Germany. Greetings from Stuttgart, the home of Porsche! Keep up the good work!
This must be an older version. We got a circuit board from Ali express that fits in like you did ….. but no extra unit or connection to the fuse box. It’s wireless CarPlay we now have in our 2016 Macan. Cost $420 delivered. Yep the vents are hard to get out and I looked around for a Macan without the sunroof …. Harder to find but I didn’t want one having had a cayenne with a sunroof I never opened.
I am pretty sure the marks on the door trim are actually your seatbelt buckle when you undo it… I had exactly the same issue with a Mercedes ML (w166) with aluminum trim inside!
I also share this idea, as I have the same marks on the aluminum door trim of my Mercedes C W205 Sometimes (when we are in a hurry) when you are releasing your arm from the safety belt to reach the door handle, you cause a catapult effect and project the buckle against the door trim.
This is nice how it works but it's way ott. I understand the circuit board that's grabbing the inputs and outputs but I can think of a easier way. Also the switched live is available on the console loom
I invested in a set of plastic pry tools. In the UK you can get them in a pack with a full set of electrical pin pushes for under £15. A lot safer than smashing your vents. Mind you you are impatient and far too rufty-tufty for delicate car parts lol.
You may of noticed when he removed the passenger panel he has these plastic tools. The vent removal tool is not something you could replace with a plastic pry tool.
The side trim pieces could be vinyl wraped to hide the damage and protect from more wear and tear. Just remember there is cheap crap vinyl and quality vinyl. You can get a brushed aluminium along with many other different looks. Croc skin???
You should try a three d printer part for the fins you definitely have the skill to draw it up and I am sure you have some where you can send the file to print this part would make for a great video series
Re the door card scratches... Taking the keys out of the car? (Mimes turning the key in the ignition 4:07). What 2016 year car has keys that require inserting or removing from the dash?? Even my 2008 Mitsubishi Delica has keyless entry and keyless ignition.
Jeff, you have to be careful using compressed air to unblock sunroof drains. In the past, I have blown the tubes off and they are an absolute nightmare to reconnect.
Oh! How many cars should he have. Thought Jeff said that the Ferrari engine was very expensive when he bought it BUT apparently they have a lot of money.
If popping the vent out looked easy in the video you watched, he had probably pulled that vent before. They're always easier after the first time you pull them.
Just a note on those ribbon cables. Some of them push in and connect with the spring pressure of the socket alone and others have various types of locking mechanism. DANGER. If you don’t carefully disengage the locking mechanism which is usually tiny almost hidden and impossible to see or get a tool on you will irreparably damage either the cable the socket or the locking mechanism or all three and if you’re really lucky you will cross wires over and short the thing to death or a broken piece of the locking mechanism will either jamb something or being inexplicably made of metal short something out.
I would not buy this car. It looks nice but every single minor fender bender to the front will basically cost you to replacing the whole front end. What they were thinking while designing this car.. Probably: Make the hood and fenders in one big piece. Yeah... we will make a lot of money on spares. :D
@@HomeBuiltByJeff Mine froze up on a boiling hot day, driving from Jindabyne to Sydney, hardly any air would come through. It kept playing up until I could get it to the dealer. They did a software upgrade that apparently fixed the "dynamic flap settings" and it's been fine since......but I hate the position of the centre vents, your hand freezes, hence the repositioning of the vents in the current model.

Jeff your pain is my pain, I just love what you do Jeff it gives me great pleasure each week and puts a big smile on my dial
I clean sunroof drains with a long piece of string trimmer filament.
I’d want to avoid compressed air, for fear that it would disconnect the rubber lines if there was a solid clog
For future reference, the vent tabs just need to be squeezed in toward center to release the tabs. Once you do that, they come out without resistance.
If only they said that in those videos.
Porsche vent removal! Welcome to our life!
Yes what a wonderful upgrade this is a beautiful automobile congratulations it fits yours and Mrs Jeff’s style perfectly
This is way more helpful than the "Official" video they have. Thanks for making the video!
Those RUclipsrs always make things look easy. :-)
You are always so unlucky. I really love that you also show when you make a fault 👍🏻😄
I just love it when Jeff brakes stuff "O NO "
Haha. I am glad someone can take pleasure in my pain ;)

Excellent I’ve been thinking about this kit for my 981 Boxster S! 👍 will definitely watch later on

There is several models and I think your 911 is supported.
You definitely can, but this system is a fraction of the cost

It still amazes me the pain you have to go through for things like this, when it could easily have been built in!!
It was in later cars
I am pretty sure the marks on the door trim are actually your seatbelt buckle when you undo it… I had exactly the same issue with a Mercedes ML (w166) with aluminum trim inside!
Not on this car. You can't throw the buckle that far.

Reminds me of installing a Ferris in a Nissan Cedric back in the day.

I have a 3D printer and I could design it, but I think I can actually just repair the existing ones ;)

I personally love a car with a key. Too many cars are ruined with push starts and stupid electric hand brakes ;)

Good point.
You can use a plastic panel popper or there’s even a metal (non marking) one available, I’d never use a hook lol
They recommend not to use those because you can break the surround.
Nice video, great job.
Oh! How many cars should he have. Thought Jeff said that the Ferrari engine was very expensive when he bought it BUT apparently they have a lot of money.
But it is a hoot to drive, especially when you stiffen the shocks two notches!
Can we see the video of you telling Mrs Jeff how you damaged her Porsche?
Sorry to hear it broke what is wrong with a set of the normal plastic trim removal tools?
Top-tip, video starts @4:30
If popping the vent out looked easy in the video you watched, he had probably pulled that vent before. They're always easier after the first time you pull them.
Rewatching the video, I don't think it was clipped in at all.
I see you pressed 'Nav' to activate the new unit. Does this mean the Porsche Nav is no longer usable?
No, it just uses the Nav button. The original Nav still works along with the rest of the PCM.
Just a note on those ribbon cables.

Will a Ferrari V12 engine fit in the Panamera?

Better than my old Alfa. At lest the whole front end unbolts. Easy solution, don't run into things ;)
@@HomeBuiltByJeff Oh. Yeah. That is totally true. Alfa is like matchbox. You can open hood, trunk and doors. Rest of it is in one piece. :D
@@HomeBuiltByJeff what alfa did you have?
Jeff, Jeff, Jeff......don't go breaking things on this one! I have one of these and I hate the PCM! Abd the A/C is lousy too
