Reliving The War continues! In this series, we look at the Raw vs Nitro TV battle that took place during the mid 90s to early 2000s. WCW Monday Nitro took on WWF Monday Night Raw for TV ratings supremacy as WCW executive producer Eric Bischoff made some bold moves to become the number 1 wrestling company in the United States. With WWF Raw on the USA network and WCW Nitro airing on TNT, fans had to choose which show to watch... and this time period within wrestling was known as "The Monday Night War".
Its 1.29.96, the WWF are showing taped matches while Nitro, as always, is live. WCW just wrapped up their Clash of the Champions special on TBS while the WWF have been building towards In Your House 6 and WrestleMania XII. Superstars included in this episode of Reliving The War include Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, The Giant, Ric Flair, Diesel and many more.

angus the cat nope, Scott Hall shows up in wcw in less than 6 months. That’s the start of the wrestlers who made the connection with the fans running the stories. That’s why wrestling was the very best it’s ever been from when he and Kev join wcw. They made the nWo, not Hogan.

From the last couple of weeks you can see when Vince realised he needed to have more competitive matches on Raw

I can't believe how little they were using Austin (The Ringmaster) at this time.
Yeah, at this time, Vince had absolutely zero plans to push Austin. It's only after Austin himself, created the Stone Cold character, & then blurted out his famous Austin 3:16 speech, that Vince began to consider pushing him. Even then, there was still lots of hesitation from Vince, but he couldn't ignore the reaction Austin was getting from the crowd.
@@brandonpage7087 It's a misconception that as soon as he said his Austin 3:16 line people were going bananas with signs etc.; it took a while after that to really get the momentum building. Up to September he was still facing the likes of Marc Mero and Savio Vega on RAW, with a little boost in fanfare, but not much. The Stone Cold Stunner started to get good reactions by that point though.
Yeah, you make a good point. Also, his feud with Bret Hart & their epic Wrestlemania 13 match, also helped him gain major fan support. By Wrestlemania 14, he was in the main event with Shawn Micheals, & that's when the torch was passed to him, though Shawn didn't want to pass him the torch. Also, his IC title matches with the Rock, helped raise his profile, as well.

Best series on YT right now. I have very little complaints, though I would say that promo's and matches should be on an equal playing field as none of us would watch scripted fighting without a storyline.

I was a young teen when the Monday night wars happened and being so young, it all seems like one big blur to me. This series not only brings back childhood memories but a grown adult perspective which is amazing. Thank you for this series 🙏

I really, really look forward to Thursdays to watch these uploads! Another awesome trip down memory lane. Damn, that German suplex by Medusa on Sherri was absolutely sick! I remember watching this episode, as I did every Monday, but I don't remember that segment at all. One of the reasons why I enjoy these videos is because I am reminded of things that occurred that I totally forgot about. Bravo on another awesome video, Sir! 👏👏👏👏

Makes you wonder if the WWE could ever reach its attitude peak again. It was in direct response to what was needed to compete with WCW.
The over the top rope rule was only enforced when they felt like it. Then after some time they just stopped.
It was a Bill Watts’ rule. He rescinded that rule also due to negative reactions.
Great episode and I was at that Superbrawl PPV in St Petersburg as it fell on my birthday. Such a great time at my first and only WCW PPV

Brandon Page Yeah it definitely was, but WWE always have to falsify things about WCW *sigh* no wonder I preferred them over WWF until 1999 with the Fingerpoke of Doom.
It's a shame Vince didnt learn from this promo, you know since he put NXT up against AEW to hurt the company

It's very interesting to watch how Nitro forced WWF to produce more compelling and competitive matches to compete with WCW. You can literally watch Raw get better each week to keep pace with Nitro

Greatest historical wrestling channel
Every time I hear the remix intro, it gives me flashbacks of being in high school, waiting for 9pm to come around to sit and watch Raw so I wouldn't be out of the loop Tuesday morning at school

Flair beating Hogan on this nitro was shocking but I was happy that flai finally beat Hogan. Yeah it wasn't clean but flair still beat Hogan that's all I was happy about.

According to the Road Worriors themselves, If they won a match without doing the doomsday device it was because there opponent for the match would let them know that they were afraid to take it. So Barberian probably asked LOD not to do it.
Sherri was definitely KOed after that German. I think Madusa admitted it in a shoot interview.
