    It's not only about being productive, and being a high achiever. It's about being able to pay attention and grow and be able to interact with your environment in an effective way. You feel better, more energized, more driven. You take more care of your family, your environment. It's truly something that's hard to understand until you let go of the distractions. @@IOV89 You do need breaks too. Dopamine is not an infinite thing. Just make your breaks not about distractions, so no video games or phone. After 5 pm I don't work on anything straining at all. Generally, I spend time with family or friends, sometimes sit down to read something interesting, but not overly engaging. Hell, sometimes I just stand outside the apartment, or balcony, watching the cars or people. Always keep track of the main point, which is no cheap distractions or cheap entertainment. After that it's just keeping track of your goals.

      @@creatrixZBD This is not hustle culture, although it applies. It's about not rotting behind a TV all day, or playing video games, or scrolling through social media. You do become more competitive generally, but it's more as a result of increased focus. Plus testosterone does increase as well. When you actually work on letting go of distractions, you feel a huge quiet. That's when you realize that you lived your life full of constant background noise. And the thing is, that's what I don't want to go back to. It's like having ADHD without having ADHD.

    I care Dr Huberman. I used to not care. I spent my time playing video games, drinking waayyyy too much caffeine, not getting sunlight, not exercising, eating highly starchy/sugary/carb filled and lots empty calorie foods. At the start of the pandemic I was 370 lbs, had 6 bulging disc's in my back, spinal stenosis, sciatica, disc dessication, degenerative disc disease, degenerative bone disease, a spondylthesis in the small of my back, numerous bone spurs, calcified tendonitis in my shoulders, posture problems, knee problems...the list goes on. After I was told by my doctor that if I didn't get my bmi from 42 to about 32 to 34 that I'd b in a wheelchair by 50 I made a very conscious effort to change my health. It started slow. I'm on medical marijuana and believe it or not that helped me lose 90 lbs in a year.(rso in particular). It was slow going after that. I sat at 280 for a while. In sort of a limbo. I was eating all sorts of homemade edibles every day and still eating poorly, just not eating as much. It wasn't until I started taking excercise & diet seriously that everything came together. I came across some of your vids and they have helped me greatly. I add new stuff to my "toolbox" everyday. The biggest ones are sunlight first thing, early excercise, and not drinking coffee until an hour after I wake up to give the adenosine time to build up naturally in my brain. These were game changers for me. In all I'm down to 249 right now and while I still struggle w/some back pain it's nowhere near what it was. As a matter of fact I'm in the best shape of my life. I do HIT training 3 times a week, and yogi, paloti's, weights, walking,mobility drills, and a few other things pretty much everyday. I'm aiming for somewhere around 225. It's slow going right now cause I'm packing on lots of muscle bur it feels great. "The effort is the reward" :)

We do not all have to be high achievers, and not everyone is meant to necessarily be something big and stellar, but as long as they do not harm themselves or others i see no issue. i watched a couple of this guy’s videos in my past Abnormal Psych class, and he makes good points, but then sometimes it sounds like the kind of bs someone on a podcast would say to sound more intelligent. Hot take: make employment an enjoyable experience.
    Offer something more than contentment.
    Seek out intellectuals and celebrate them so that we can all benefit from their abilities.
    Governments want you to find your own job so that at the end of the day they can say "You wanted this." "You made these decisions that led you here" "Your oppurtunities were the same".
    We are manipulated and coerced into needing an extensive number of things that cost money. That is the structure set up around us.
    How many things do you pay for that your job requires of you? internet? phone? car?
    What about convenience? don't have time to cook because of your job? fast food is expensive. don't have time to maintain your home? air conditioners, gutters, lawns have maintenance costs that are placed on the renter. don't have time to take care of your kids? day care is an entire salary.
    How is it not slavery to work a job and then spend most of that income on your job?
    Ask yourself how much you really get at the end of the week and then ask yourself what is required of others to survive. Medications? physical aids? emotional aids? dietary restrictions due to allergies?
    That is a bill that you might not have to pay and that may be the reason you think we live in a fair world worth getting off the couch/park bench for.
    You are mistaken. You are not better than me because you work hard. You are in fact living a life that you will regret in the coming years. As you will not have lived at all.

      Sarcasm is a thing that exists! Calm down 😅
      But I was being half serious, making my own statement, inspired by the original comment… People who are content within themselves don’t need to seek things outside of themselves to be happy, thus such people would likely consume less or much more mindfully so what they do consume lasts longer, which essentially doesn’t keep the gears running in the capitalist machine. So in every sense of the term, no, self improvement is not great for the economy. But it IS better for sustainability.
      But don’t self improve lol please 😜

      Do you have data to back up your assertions like Huberman has to back up his facts?

    • @loud6037
      @loud6037 Год назад

      @@east5871 We have highly successful people dying of drug overdoses and suicide and engaging in various other unhealthy and destructive lifestyle choices to back up such assertions. Not every financially successful or high status person is living a good life, or even one better than the rest of us besides knowing the rent will be paid next month.
      I like Huberman, but clearly he doesn't mean that is the always the case for every high performer, many have unhealthy habits just like regular people. Stephen King became successful in the midst of a horrendous cocaine addiction that nearly cost him his marriage and his mind. He doesn't even remember writing Cujo, he was so out of it the whole time. And yet he is obviously a high performer.

    • @east5871
      @east5871 Год назад

      @@loud6037 That’s not really data. It’s more like proof by assertion. What do you suggest is the appropriate response to Huberman’s position? What is your actual beef? He’s saying high performers follow certain protocols that allow them to perform at high levels and if others want to perform to the best of their ability they should do likewise. He didn’t suggest all high performers are well adjusted or don’t have other problems. With regard to drug problems of high performers I think he would disqualify a drug user as a high performer or at least say they weren’t following the proper protocol and their performance level would eventually suffer if changes aren’t made. Is king still drug addicted? Did his best work, his highest performance, happen in the midst of his addiction? I don’t know I’m just curious. Huberman recommends abstaining from marijuana, alcohol, and certainly illegal drugs and he gives the neurobiological reasons why. It’s sobering…no pun intended. But still the existence of these drug addicted people who somehow manage to perform at what is you call a high level does not negate a single word he’s saying about steps to take to perform at a high level. So then what is your real issue with what Huberman is promoting?
