If the new CS gradates are failing to find jobs (search youtube - they are), then the self taught people are currently in big trouble. Loving to code is not enough when there are 250+ applicants. HR departments *definitely* exclude applicants that do not have a degree when there are large applicant pools. It just makes sense. If you don't know someone in the company, you don't get the job in this market - it doesn't matter if you are self taught or formally educated.
Just got my first job as a self-taught. Being an immigrant I have no contacts, no degree, no experience, just lots of passion and hard work. It is doable, but I'm not going to lie to you, it was hard. But if you like what you are doing eventually you'll get there.
Searching youtube antecedents isn’t a sufficient research method to determine how the job market really is. Also, if you think it’s so hard then just give up and leave us alone. If you’re already in the industry why are you discouraging others trying to get in?
@@cuffeemia2108 you don't see many self-taught electrical engineers on RUclips puzzled that they can't find work, but self-taught computer engineers here are all entitled to having six figure jobs!! (myself included 😂)
The key is persistence. What an annoying word to me in the past. I suppose when you want something and understand its importance to you, you won't let go easily it at all you do.
I’ve been following Travis for a while already. Great online motivation. I’ve started and finished several Udemy courses but nothing that can make a huge difference to switch roles (currently doing advanced IT support engineering). Finally I applied and my company accepted me for their coding bootcamp. In my opinion it’s the best one because they hired me as a full time associate and will be giving me 6 months of paid training. I believe that’s the best option for me to become a developer at 37 since I get paid to learn. Huge thanks to Travis. Btw, one of the interview questions was what do I do to keep up to date with coding and I mentioned Travis Media amongst others.
Hi Travis, i been watching your content for more than a year and i always find something very insightful in all of your videos. Last monday i quit my job since i felt i was wasting my time, it didnt payed well anyway(80 to 90 dlls a week, from 8 to 6 monday to friday and saturdays from 8 to 1 pm)im on my way to find my first programing job, even though i have a career on computer enginering i still have to get my degree (which requires some money i don't have right now) im mostly self-taught and i feel the same way as you mentioned you used to feel, that it that i dont care who and how much pay me as long as is a programing job, something that allows me to learn more and level up my skills as a programmer, something that is worth investing my time. What i want to say is: thanks for all the advices and information you give on each of your videos 👍
Hey Travis great stuff as always! I just wanted to add that I consider myself a person who isn’t in love with coding, more so the end result. I enjoy building the software but seeing it functional is the best part! That’s what drives me to put up with my bad coding lol
AS bob martin said, the first time i printed my name 1000 times on the screen i knew i wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I often joke that i love coding so much that i Would do it for free, but people insist in paying me =D
With ChatGpt and AI looking to do coding now, would you advise people to still jump on coding … I’ll like to learn python but with AI what do you recommend.

Currently, I'm participating in a one-year Software Engineering Program at Holberton School and thankfully, I'm doing well and close to completing it to obtain the certificate. My question is, can I include in the Education section of my resume that I graduated from there and add the certificate? Will this negatively impact my chances of getting a job abroad? Apologies for the length ❤️
