  • In this video, we will walk you through the entire basement buildout we’ve just finished, which includes a beautiful home office, bar and entertainment area, and an incredible home theater. The basement started as an empty, unfinished space, which allowed us to create the best imaginable layout for the ultimate entertainment space for the homeowners’ friends and family. Of course, with any project like this, there are always some unique challenges to overcome. We invited the architect to talk with us about the design from start to finish and how we overcame obstacles when it came actually to building everything out. We then give you a basement tour to see all the unique features we’ve implemented.

    Question. I'm new to the thought of even trying to build a home theater. But the timing is perfect because we are currently building a home that will have a dedicated media room. The Media Room dimensions are about 15 1/2 ft wide, and half the room depth is 19'10" and the other half is 23ft, the ceiling is vaulted from 8ft to 10ft (highest point). Would you consider this a small theater room space? Also, do you think the room is big enough to house a 150" screen protector or bigger?

    Just goes to show you don’t need a Trinnov processor or (6) 18” subwoofers to have a top of the line theater. I’m sure this customer had the budget to include Trinnov gear and huge subwoofers if that would have made a noticeable difference. The fact that you don’t see Trinnov used or a ridiculous amount of massive subwoofers tells me all I need to know. Great job putting this video together and what a spectacular theater build.

      Thanks. The AVM70 is really a great processor. To your point, the system has 4 subs, so in the ideal world the system will move up to an AVM90 but when we first designed it and did the install, the AVM90 was not out. However, the AVM90 is a natural upgrade to the room.

    You weren’t in the projector’s laser ‘danger zone’? That beast actually has an FDA warning about the angle the viewer has to be at to be safe from the laser. That’s why you tend to see that projector with its optional short throw lens, where that isn’t an issue.
    Great looking room by the way!!!

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      Yep. This particular projector is so powerful that you have to do a handful of things to do it right, including setting up in the right zone and running the 240 volts. You actually also have the ability to turn down the laser based on the size of the room which both impacts the zone and the the image performance. Thanks for the positive feedback and mentioning this key point.

    • @chma9503
      @chma9503 Год назад

      Looked like the installation didn’t meet the hazard distance area? The first thing I picked up on when I saw the video. I know the short throw lens helps in that aspect, but you wouldn’t be able to use it with the Panamorph, so that would mean it’s probably the standard lens?

    Great video as always! Can you provide a class on anthem arc genesis? Even if it’s a paid class that goes in depth on how you guys calibrate rooms with it.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the shoutout. In terms of Arc Genesis, we created a set up tips and tricks that covers Arc Genesis very well. Since the video was produced the one thing that is now different is that you do set the distance to the front left speaker at the beginning. But otherwise it is virtually identical if you follow this video. ruclips.net/video/Ua08GENR5eY/видео.html. When customers purchase from us, we actually allow them to send us their files or do a shared screen if they want to go a deeper level on tweaking their system. However, we have had a handful of people ask for an in depth class just like you did, so its definitely something we will think about how to do after a few more revisions of ARC

    Great looking room.
    Can you elaborate on the acoustic treatments used?
    You mentioned the star ceiling helps with some absorption, what about bass trapping for those giant subs or any additional sources of absorption / diffusion in the room?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      We used absorptive panels for the star ceiling and they are recessed from the ceiling to achieve a total of 2" off the wall of absorption properties. Then we used floor to ceiling wall treatments that are a mixture of absorption and diffusion. The room did not need bass traps. One of the great advantages of the Anthem AVM platform combined with 4 subwoofers is that we are able to calibrate all of the subs in phase and then cut out any peaks (which were not that bad to start with). Because we have risers and thick carpet and our Revolution chairs, the mix of frequency diffusion and absorption is really good. It's not too bright or to quiet.

    Curious, would the larger SCL1 and SSW1's be overkill in a room this size? The movable headrest is very smart!

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      Great question. The answer is two pronged. First, the SCL1s and SSW1s are incredible. They would also have sounded great in this room. However, to your point, after all of the walls went into the room, the total size of the room meant that the SCL2 and SSW2s are able to complete bass load the room. In fact, when we were calibrating and testing the system, we were shaking items a floor up even though we had really good isolation. So yes, the SCL1s and SSW1s are terrific, but in this case the SPL level and bass loading of the room mean they would have had diminishing returns.

    Looks great! What do you recommend for 9ch system and Atmos??? 2 wides? 4 Atmos? Or 2 rears

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      It really depends on the layout of the room. But here is the way to think about it. What you want is to have however many speaker you have spread evenly around the listener so that you can get a full immersive experience. So for most people 9 channels would be 7 in your bed layer (fronts sides and rears) and probably 2 atmos. However if you don't have a good place for rears, then most of the time you'd do sides and 4 atmos with the rear atmos providing sound behind you. If you are thinking about doing a room like this, go use our free home theater design tool and when you save it, you will get an email where you can schedule a free review of it with our designers based on your exact room. One suggestion for the HT tool, there's no option for a single (center) speaker behind an AT screen with the mains as floorstanders to the sides of the screen.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the input. We've not had this suggestion before but we totally get the use case. One of the challenges we face with the tool is that we could technically provide almost any scenario including the one you mention as well as having a missing side or back wall. But every time we add a capability we make it just a little more complex for the majority of people. So we take all of these suggestions and analyze the cost/benefit trade-off. Anyways, good suggestion. In the meantime, if you do this, you can design using all box speaker in the tool. Then simply install your center speaker behind the screen putting the tweeter as close to inline with the left and right tweeters as possible while still keeping relatively close to halfway up the screen. You may have to split the difference. Then just make sure that you mount the screen away from the wall so that the speaker can play through it without comb filtering or other issues.

    Amazing room. Only thing that's a bit of a head scratcher to me is the charging points up front with the cabinets? Why not put the charge points by the seats? Most seats now you can get that anyways, plus there is a riser so easy to run electricity. Putting that game box up front I guess is more traditional and maybe easier to wire to the receiver? I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying I don't get it (yet).
    Distance from screen required depends on the screen type. Some screens you can go closer than others.
    This room was beautifully finished. i love the wood on the edges of the risers.

      We have thought about adding more markets over time but for now have focused on helping customers through our stores and online team which do a great job designing theaters nationwide. That said, if you are thinking about getting into the business, what I would do is go to our RUclips channel and find the playlist called "Home Theater Buying and Design Guides". You will enjoy watching this playlist of videos that teach you most things about designing a theater. Then once you are through those, watch the playlist called "Best Free Home Theater Audio and Video Upgrades". This is a set of videos that use test tones and patterns and teach you how to calibrate and maximize the setup of any home theater or media room. If you do this in your own room, you will already be way ahead of what most professional installers do. Enjoy!

    Is there a hush box for the projector? It looks like just a recessed shelf. Noise floor concerns?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      We did not need a hush box. The fan pulls the air through to the back and the design of the cavity sucks up most of the sound. However, you bring up a great point since this particular projector does have a higher fan noise. We actually tested all of the major projectors in our lab for both light output and fan noise and integrated it into our free projector throw distance calculator. It shows the fan noise at 3 feet and 6 feet so you can adjust where to put the projector based on the SPL level. You can test yours here or any other: www.audioadvice.com/projector-throw-distance-calculator

      Usually if you can move the projector into the wall like this, the sound is greatly reduced without having to enclose it. I always worry about hush boxes increasing the heat on a projector and degrading its life. Much prefer moved back like this one was.

    Nice job. LEDs are a pain. No consistency brand to brand like incandescent. Even seen the same model dimming to different levels.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  Год назад +1

      You are exactly right. When you want a high-end look with completely consistent colors, dimming and color rending index; then you use higher-performance LEDs and not cheaper LED strips from Amazon or a box store. These are high-performance and are connected to a Control4 system that controls the dim level and color. To get this full look you also need to use a channel to hold the LEDs and use a good diffuser to diffuse the light out of the channel.

So I tend to get excited and try to cover quite a bit in a short time frame. But it's good feedback that I incorporated into the one we just released. Honest question here... does an $80k projector ACTUALLY make that much of a difference over let's say, a $8-10k projector? Just seems crazy to me to spend that much on just one component of the theatre. Incredible job though regardless! Druling over here...

    • @AudioAdvice

      The picture on the GTZ380 is jaw dropping good. But 8-10K in todays market does get you a great projector, but side by side, there are very obviously different. We are glad you enjoyed checking out our latest home theater video. More are on the way soon!

He said he would let me know after contacting the warehouse the next morning. That was five days ago and still no response. I guess spending $18,000 doesn’t guarantee good service.
