thanks Chicago griller!! fab advice.. Aussie girl here, just bought a baby q, what a learning curve! appreciate your hard won experience!! will keep watching your vids🎉 🤗
Hi Jerry, great video. I live in Australia and never use the genuine trays, always foil. I do have the rack. Foil works fine, you can add extra layers to alter your cooking time too if you want to slow it down. Love your videos you put so much effort into them and they are so professional. Look forward to the next!
Great tip about the extra foil. I use just a single layer, but I guess a double layer would make it a little bit more sturdy, but is another way to control the heat a bit more.
Thanks Jerry. It’s nice to have that spelled out. I think I bought the same rack that you did. Took a little time till I found one with feet that went the right way. A lot of them would have dropped right into the slots in the great. Keep them coming. Love your delivery.
Great video Jerry !! We like cooking indirectly on the grill and our rack has legs on both sides. One set is slightly higher. We’ve also learnt the hard way that set times don’t work and the meat thermometer is your best friend (unless you have a dog)
I've been grilling indirect way more often since I saw your first post and totally love it! It really makes my Webber so much more useful! I order from Amazon the rack and tray set, and the only "mistake" I made was not putting and holes in the pan, but given that I always cook to temperature, it hasn't been a problem for me! You're doing a great job Jerry, thank you and happy holidays!
I have the traveler and for indirect i use the weber accessory griddle and place a toasting rack on top of the griddle. It works wonderfully for indirect heat
Thanks for the great clear video! I am about to try this method with foil instead of buying the set. I'm in Australia too.. thought would give it a go!
Great video again. Instructions I found was to use 2 layers of foil under the trivet. I fold a large piece in half & cut a few holes through both layers. Works well. I regularly cook roasts including roasted veggies. Much easier than cleaning the kitchen oven.
Interesting - I've never found 'official' instructions on this roasting workaround. Two layers of foil would make the whole setup sturdier so maybe I will start doing that. We definitely roast on the grill more than we do in the oven for the reason you stated - clean up is easier!

Thanks again for a very informative and entertaining video, Jerry - and - due to you, I now know that I am a lucky guy ;-) , since The Roasting Pack is available over here... Keep it up, please, because you're making the (Weber Q-) grilling world so much better !!!
You are indeed lucky to have access to the roasting pack (and the many other Q specific accessories that we don't get here in the USA!). Thanks for watching!
Great vid, Jerry. I bought the roasting kit but realised quickly that the aluminium pan, while useful, was way more expensive than a couple of layers of foil! Love roasting on my Q, comes out beautifully every time. I am lucky enough to be in Australia and my Q is on a sheltered patio so it holds a steady temp. I need to try a really nice rib roast!
Yes there is something to said about the convenience of a pre-shaped pan... but yeah it's not really cost effective to keep buying those pre-made Weber pans
Excellent advice. Thanks 😊 I've used indirect cooking about one third of the time. I'm going to drill some holes in the aluminum tray that came with tray.
Interesting looking product for sure. With shipping it looks like I can get it for $50USD. Convenient to have this pre-fabricated and reusable tray, but that price is a bit too steep of a price compared to me just tearing off sheets of foil as needed. Maybe they will have a sale over the holidays at which point I might consider.
Hi Jerry you can get the weber roasting pack as separate items now. It seems like weber only sale it in Australia and new zealand. Thanks for a great video
Not really sure why they discontinued this product outside of OZ/NZ. Must not have been a great seller but even then you'd think at least make it online only?
Hi Jerry, another Aussie here and yes, I cook indirect with foil all of the time. The trays are readily available but rather expensive and wasteful IMHO. Foil works fine and is more versatile.
Hi Jerry And another Aussie here. Just replaced my trivet today in Sydney So yes use indirect cooking all the time Could not find just the trivet, had to buy with the Weber foil as a package
Your hack looked interesting -- but why not use the toaster oven tray, and drill out some holes (instead of dealign with the aluminum foil each time)? As you point out, consistency is a factor in the time -- so even if the toaster oven equipment is 'self-ventilated", it should provide consistent results? As always -- looking forward to the next episode!
True, it would be easier to just drill out a tray... I just don't have a drill strong enough to punch through it. I'd have to borrow one like the time I drilled out a hole for my Q2000 thermometer. But something to consider.
I'm really surprised the roasting tray is only here in Australia. The official Weber Aus/NZ RUclips channel has an excellent video how to roast on the Q featuring the tray and trivet, but it also shows how to make YOUR foil tray Jerry.
I really don't know why they only sell it in OZ (maybe also NZ?) While overpriced for what it is, there is the convenience factor of it. Kind of like the drip trays...
To be honest, I've never heard of this Weber heat shield before this video. I always use something else. But I've checked over here in Germany at Amazon and you can get them here too. -> "Weber 6562 Hitzeschild für Q-Bratenrost groß, 4 Stück" for around 10€ ... and a 30m (100 feet) roll of aluminum foil for 4€. So no question, what you should buy. 🤪😁✌️
I found it on Amazon here as well for about the same price ($10) but it ships from Japan and costs an extra $30. No thank you! Aluminum foil roll it is!
@@ChicagoGriller over here you can get it the next day via Amazon prime...but 10€ is still to much. What I've done before is putting a roasting rack on an aluminum grease tray. With that combination you won't have to think about putting the rack directly on the flame and the dripping fat gets catched directly too. ;)
Thank you for another great episode. Exactly what I needed. I am planning to do some roasting and it's been a while since I used my Webber Q. With summer fast approaching here in Australia it's time for me to dust it off. Been learning a lot from your videos.
The roasting set is not available in any size in the USA. As far as I know they are only available in Australia and possibly also NZ. Other viewers and commenters might correct me if they see otherwise.

Taught me the correct way to shield the trivet when roasting. Thanks.

For sure! The Weber is so versatile once you’ve “unlocked” the trick for indirect grilling!
Another great video. Not a stone left unturned.
Thank you! I try my best!

Hmmm that's a good idea I haven't thought of. I have a Lodge griddle that I think I could do the same thing with. I will be trying that out!
Great advice. I wanted to cook some bone in chicken and every recipe called for using indirect heat, and had no idea how to do that on my Q1200
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great clear video! I am about to try this method with foil instead of buying the set. I'm in Australia too.. thought would give it a go!
I'm glad it helped! Regardless if you use the foil v pre-fabricated set, roasting on your Q really expands what you can do on it. Happy grilling!

I'd be interested to hear how that goes. A more permanent heat deflector sounds good in practice, although I think would be mighty difficult to clean.
You might be interested in the webber re-usable tray sold by Kaon. I think they ship internationally.

Can you do a cooking comparison of the webber q grills vs the cuisinart 2 burner tabletop grill, and the tabletop pit boss grill? Thanks!
If I can get a hold of any similar grills to the Weber Q like the ones you listed, I will. I’m a little curious myself!

I was thinking a pizza stone may be useful in the same manner. Or, use a slightly deeper pan that could hold water when you want low and slow.
you can get the 2200 with rack shield in thailand 620 usd the usa has inflation we have import tax
