I think Shadows wrote that opening riff. They have a video with him playing it in the studio on Syns guitar.
The Stage is truly a masterpiece of an album
This album is full of so many catchy melodies. It's insane. Like, every single song.

I’m a drummer too, and let me tell you, it is VERY hard to try and do what he does. He probably has the best technique out there at the moment

I love this tidbit from an interview with M. Shadows via Loudwire: (talking about the horn section)
Yeah, you know, we had written this part, that whole song especially has a very, to me, has like a lot of Mr. Bungle leanings, like Patton-esque type vocal melodies, etc. And when we had written the part, we thought it was hilarious, so we left it, the whole horn section. And then when we got into the studio with Joe Barresi, he suggested that we get Angelo and Dirty Walter Kibby to play on that. We're huge Fishbone fans, as well, but we just didn't know how to reach out to them, but he happened to know them from playing on a Melvins record that he had produced. So he called them up, and we thought it was a great idea, because we didn't want it to sound perfect, like it was done with a bunch of professional musicians, sitting in a very stale environment. We wanted these guys to come in, and just blow it down. And that's exactly what they did. They have this energy, and this attitude about them, and they came in, listened to the track, they were completely excited about what the track was doing, and they just went in there and nailed it. And I think you can feel the energy, and just the off-the-cuff-ness of it.

Love this!!!! When you listen to Roman Sky, from this album, you really should listen/watch the Live from from the Grammy museum, version. It is amazing! They do it like Unplugged, with a small like orchestra with them. Also, the guy playing behind Matt & Syn, is Syn’s dad, Papa Gates. This whole show is awesome! In one song, Papa Gates plays the sitar. They also do Hail to the king, unplugged, & a little boy requests, So far Away, & Matt tells him they will do the first verse (cause they hadn’t played it or rehearsed it with Brooks yet), & they end up playing the whole song for him. But I promise, you will Love, Roman Sky from this show!
PLEASE do a breakdown/reaction to everything on the Nightmare album. It’s probably my favorite album from my favorite band. I’ve been loving these videos man keep it up.

Some of my all time favorite lyrics lines "When the clouds kiss your eye, shadows stain on the high-rise, raise your thumb to the sky, fossilize". Talking about the mushroom clouds from nukes and when you see them all you can do is to raise your thumb before the shockwave hits. Sunny Disposition is another masterpiece for me, repetitive to say but almost every song on the Stage album is a masterpiece, so frickin gooooood. :) Keep it up, rock on!
The thumb part actually comes from US Government recommendations for nuclear attacks. They used to (still might?) teach that if the blast is bigger than your thumb when raised, that you are within the radiation zone and must evacuate.
Don’t know if you’re a “Fallout” fan, but this is also why Vault Boy’s signature pose is the thumbs up!

I think you should check out their song Dose. It's a bonus track off The Stage's deluxe edition. Very weird and also very underrated. Not sure why people don't talk about it as much.
Also considering Dose was meant to be part 2 of Roman Sky, but the album was getting too long so they scrapped the idea.
Dose is so good and so underrated.

I enjoy all the reaction that you create about A7X. Thanks for that, I really appreciate hearing good comments and opinions about their music. When you have time, please give you the time to listen all the Nightmare album. It's a badass album that can hit you hard in the face with all those riffs, harmonies and melodies.
The rhythm transition isn't that odd. The verses are in 6/8, but the eighth notes switch to a 4/4 pattern when the change happens.
