Yeah Sitka spruce are native to the Pacific coast of Alaska down to northern California. It's named after the community of Sitka in southern Alaska, which means "People on the Outside of Baranof Island" in Tlingit. Native Americans in the area like to use it to make baskets, rain hats, caulking, and for medicinal purposes. Similar story to what happened to the native trees in regard to the takeover of the Sitka spruce is what's been happening to native trees in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego. Beavers were introduced to Tierra del Fuego by the Argentine government in 1946 because they thought it was a good idea to import nearly 50 beavers into a lake shared by it and Chile called Lake Cami to create a fur trade industry. But like other plans of the Argentine government, it did horrendously. Though the industry failed to materialize, this importation's had dire consequences for the region. They have no natural predators there, and they didn't ship any bears to counter them. So the beavers have been destroying long-protected trees, and they threaten six million hectares. Unlike trees in North America, these trees don't regenerate when destroyed.
Great conservation work however worth explaining that the term “Laird” in Scotland just means landowner. It does not mean Lord or Lady, which are Titles of nobility and are arbitrated in the Court Of The Lord Lyon King Of Arms. Also buying a souvenir plot of land, which is what these 1ft square plots are, cannot be registered with the Land Registry in Scotland and therefore are not legally owned by the purchaser.
We are all completely aware of your points. It’s just a bit of fun at the end of the day. As long as it isn’t used to defraud or deceive somebody then we can call ourselves anything we like in the United Kingdom. Nobody thinks that they have purchased a noble title or even a piece of land. We are fully aware of what we are buying and we are happy to support the conservation work. Chill out a little. If you don’t like it then simply move on by.
This is so interesting! I've been to Scotland a tonne and knew the coniferous forest weren't indigenous but never new why they were now so prevalent. Really great to see Scotland's vegetation getting back to it's 'roots'! Loving this UK leg of your journeys :)
Hey Jane & Tarzan 😊Scotland looks so amazing, glad you're having a wonderful time! You're going to absolutely LOVE "Outlander" it's the most romantical, beautiful, magical series EVER Enjoy!! Lots of love x
Lord Louis and Lady Raya thank you for sharing this wonderful experience. As I always said your short videos of exploration has been innovative. Thank you
Just found your vlog, wow what a great thing to do, buying a small plot to encourage and support the conservation project. Beautiful monastery. Thankyou for sharing, guess I now need to subscribe.💚
We stayed at St Benedict’s Abbey when we were in the Highlands! It’s so nice. We have family that owns one of the apartments and lives there part time. We also saw the steam train come across the viaduct and it was awesome! I highly recommend both.
Thank you so very much for this wonderful Christmas gift idea! Simply perfect for many of my family members. Just purchased 6 lots as gifts. And this comment to you is my first comment ever on RUclips, even tho I’m 57 yrs old. Have been too intimidated to leave comments due to my traumatic brain injury 8 yrs ago. It’s growth and progress! You see, I was you 3 decades ago. World traveler for a decade. Cheers to you both and Happy Holidays! -Kimberkai
I’ve been a ‘Lady’ through Highland Titles for 6 years. So fun to tell people about it and conservation. You can also follow what’s going on on their socials.
Duh, you are not titled after buying this land. Technically you don’t own any land since the land registry office doesn’t recognize the purchase of 1 square foot. They are ripping you off!
If you get to go back and do the Glenfinnan Viaduct trail, stay at the Glenfinnan House Hotel within walking distance to the train and trail with the best full Scottish breakfast we've ever experienced, also next to Harry Potter filming locations! Cheers!
My father-in-love is of Scottish ancestry and we purchased a lot (and title) for my parents-in-love for their 50th anniversary 😊. PS…loved the piggy-bog ride
What a great present for hubby. We bought him land in Scotland too so he’s now a Lord. We’re actually going to visit this in just over a week from 🇦🇺. Ours is just outside Dunfermline where my great grandparents lived before emigrating to Australia. Great idea guys.
Oh I love Fort Augustus. I’ve spent many hours sitting by the locks watching the boats passing through. I’ve spent this summer working part time transferring West Highland Way walkers up and down Glen Coe. I watched for you van for most of August.
I love that they are preserving the Scottish wild life. I’m going to look into buying a bit of land. One day it’s my dream to own a bigger patch of land in Scotland, but for now a small bit will do. A good way to manifest a larger bit in the future.
The part of Scotland that is in this video is beautiful, me and my parents go quite a bit for holidays. Scotland is just an amazing part of the world to visit.

Unless your name is on the land register for the plot of you supposedly own you have no entitlement, Lord is just a name not a Title for legal purposes
My husband bought me land in the very same place as a gift 🎁 when we visited Scotland in 2008. I'm so proud that I can help in some small way. I wish we had that in Australia, to save the Koala habitat. They will be extinct in a few years.😢😢😢
My husband and I are also owners of land near Aberdeen since last year. I bought him (and me) the title of Lord and Lady for his birthday because I thought it was funny+the amazing job they're doing. We are from North Spain and we always talk about going to visit our land there 💚💚💚
You do not own any land. It is just a souvenir plot that essentially means nothing, you do not own it and you do not get a title. It is essentially a scam.
@@conorstewart2214 No way! Really?!... I thought that by just getting a subscription on a website I automatically was becoming the owner of a piece of land in another country!... 🤷🏻♀️ 😂 Don't you think we know that we are not owners or lords? Hello L&R I'm only @ thread 6 on this vid, and would like to inform you what top scientist and biologists are saying about extinction. What an amazing place. The wild cat is just beautiful. I think another trip to Scotland is due in 2023. We love Scotland as we haven't been there for a few decades. I need to purchase a piece of land for my husband, he'll think it's the dogs do dahs! Hugs Wiltshire
