As an Alfa enthusiast I have to admit that the TwinSpark engines of that era have a lot of problems. On the other hand the JTDm engines around the same time are the complete opposite. They are indesdructable power engines. In general the Diesel is the best. The turbos don't fail. The gearboxes are very durable and so on. Especially the 8V.
JTD from that era was a revolutionary thing with it's common rail that was first used in a car... I hates diesel since before my 147 I drove mk4 golf TDI, but after JTD I changed my opinion and tbh. I'd drive those engines until I die if I could...
Sounds like dead variator even after the rebuild, it should run even smoother. Also check PCV and all of the oxygen sensors, there are 3. I have 147 1.6 120hp facelift and had even more severe consumption so i had to change the pistons, crankshaft bearings, spark plugs and etc. Now after 8000km i have 0 oil consumption, hard to believe but it's true 🙂.
repair with new sparkplugs costed half the price of the car ffs 😂 that's why I never liked those twinsparks anyways, what's your opinion on those engines Bruno? cheers from bosnia man, found your channel couple of days ago and learned alot
Why does everyone keep mentioning spark plugs as a disadvantage od havig a petrol engine? Spark plugs are cheap. Repairing diesel common issues costs 10-20 times more...
@@DashCamSerbia look at the price for twinspark spark plugs, and two come on one cilinder so 8 in total... for the price of spark plugs I can easily do small service on my JTD with some high quality selenia oil
Good job! Most shops would have junked the engine.

Did not put a new variator in it.

@@ahmedmeshkin4599 That is nothing. You don't change the spark plugs at 10.000 km... This is a car, not a bicycle, it costs money to maintain.
I have 166 with 410 tkm. 2.0 ts. Lightened engine about 8-9 kilos. Almost every day I hit rpm limit(7300). 0 problems with engine
