  • Sis & Bro Reunion with 93-Year Old Dad After Years of Estrangement: A Reflective and Healing Moment
This week, I went on a poignant journey to Townsville with my closest-age brother, Guy Moore. Our trip was bittersweet, as we returned to Townsville, to visit our 93-year-old Dad for what may be the last time.
It was also a chance to revisit cherished places from our childhood-Weir Primary School, Kirwan High School, Ross River, and the Ann Roberts School of Dance, where I began my career in dancing, and the Townsville Choral Society, which sparked my passion in Musical Theatre. 🎭
While my brother and I felt a deep sense of joy in reconnecting with our childhood roots, the trip was undeniably heart-wrenching.
Fourteen years ago, circumstances beyond our control led to a painful estrangement for me from my Dad. For reasons unknown, both he and his wife chose to cut ties. After a few years, the same happened to my brother, which left us both in a state of longing and confusion.
Family dynamics can be complex, and sometimes the bonds we wish for, just seem out of reach. Yet, as time has passed, my brother and I found ourselves granted the opportunity to visit Dad once more.
During our stay, my brother and I spent precious hours with Dad. And whilst we may not have left with the feelings of lasting and fulfilling closeness we’d hoped for, nevertheless, we embraced our chance to make peace.
In those moments, my brother and I realized that whilst reconciliation doesn’t always mean rekindling a relationship; sometimes, it’s about finding closure within ourselves.
In turn, life’s challenges often test our resilience, especially in our various situations or relationships.
I hope that anyone facing similar struggles may find their moment or moments of peace, whether through understanding, acceptance, or simply finding the kindness and courage to let go.
I am grateful for this opportunity to reconnect, even if it was just for a fleeting moment. This week reminded me that healing can take many forms, and sometimes, all we need to do is find a place of peace within ourselves. 😌
