The only thing that the popular graffiti culture is clinging on to is street art, because that is where all the money comes from, but there are alot of graf writers that think that they are vandals are actually street artists, because they have low self-esteem. People are gonna NG to get tired of Banksy and because people are not getting the real street artists recognized, the popularized graffiti, or "street art" will end. Hopefully people will find the right artists for the job, because me and my posse role deep, lol. But if you really want to find them, hit the streets were people are commiting crimes, selling drugs and robbing people to get their paint you know, there are some real good graffiti artists who are in the streets that are never discovered unless people (be safe) go into the streets and find these street artist that are doing this shit illegally.
some artists like to show flare and eye for colour,imagination and skill in realism pieces. banksy seems to always have a message behind his work wether it be political or tongue in cheek..banksy work is just clever in another way.

As to graffiti being an act of defiance, I find that a puerile revolution. I mean the world needs defiance of the establishment for sure, but I would think something a bit more pungent and pointed and deliberately damaging to political animals would be more respected.
So why are their pictures of Robin Gunningham putting up known Banksy pieces? Don't you think it's more likely Banksy got his friends to lie because of multiple newspaper stories about him being Gunningham?
In my neighborhood in NYC, the graffiti is not art; it is merely defacement of the sides of apartment buildings, people's garage doors, etc. I happen to like using spray paint in making art and I like graffiti that appears in the proper places- industrial areas and abandoned buildings and factories. There is something merely animal marking about pissing on private property.
People that talk about Banksy like he's some god really piss me off. People have more skill in a nice tag than banksy does using a fuckin stencil!
