  • The site brainfodder.org has a neat explanation of the Dunning-Kruger effect:
"When someone begins to explore a new field of knowledge, they’re usually full of enthusiasm, but completely unaware of how much they don’t know or understand yet. They’re confident about their new knowledge and believe that they can make sense of new information quickly.
"On the other hand, if a person continues to obtain in-depth knowledge in the same field, they slowly realise how vast the field actually is. The more they learn, the more they are humbled by how much they don’t know. Hence, real experts are often hesitant about making definitive statements."
Being humble will get you far. So here's a video of Rickson Gracie answering a question from a humble student who, having just started out, wanted to learn the philosophy and tradition of true Gracie jiu-jitsu passed on from Hélio, Rickson's father.

Such a legendary figure he’s like a modern day Achilles. He reminds of the last spoken lines in Troy ."If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die.
Let them say I lived in the time of Hector tamer of horses. Let them say, I lived in the time of Achilles."

As a big powerful guy ( 5’11. 270lbs) what GM Rickson just said is so true. You’ve GOT to focus on technique. Pretend you weigh 130. Once your technique is good, the weight will become a REAL advantage

The true spirit of GJJ and all martial arts .

I am not hating on no martial art here. I respect them all. But Karate, Kung Fu, Wrestling, and most of the others do not have a relaxed and non physical approach as their core principle.
They are all great martial arts no doubt. But there is a reason JIU JITSU has its name which literally translate: "Gentle Art"
PS.: Mind you, the vast majority of BJJ practitioners don't understand nor use this principle either.

@@VelhaGuardaTricolor you are absolutely right ; principles are not used in many teams and I experienced that first hand and QUIT , sometimes not practicing is better than practicing wrong .

@@angel-rq4fz My best friend, despite my repeated warnings, kept going to one of those places and almost ended up on a wheel chair. After the surgery they told him he was not to do any contact sport never again.
So my utmost respect for what you've said there: "sometimes not practicing is better than practicing wrong".

Honestly, the last thing I do to complete 'My MAP' is Kyokushin Karatekai. First I do err adieu is Jiu Jitsu and of course Ninjutsu.
Remember, the permutation of processing making a spirit/wine is the honey in the bottle.

late to retract and recognize that the only truth is: ONLY JESUS SAVES! (While there is life, there is hope!) It is time to open your eyes and face reality. God does not share His glory with anyone! The author of the phrase "only jiu-jitsu saves" is going through serious health problems. May GOD bless him! It is sad to see the sycophants around him insisting that this paraphrase is irrelevant, as if they were above the spiritual consequences that it entails. You do not mess with GOD! GOD does not allow himself to be mocked; we must repent and truly live!
