Honestly from watching videos on youtube especially Bill I've noticed that the issue with the 6.0 diesels isn't the vehicle itself it's the ownership! Sorry but to many ppl in this country have to much money and don't care bout what they have and just waste money. I recently bought a 2006 Ford F350 6.0L used and it's my baby I've I've put in so much work into it and I hope to put in alot more. I seriously enjoy owning my truck working on it and making it last as long as possible! I love your videos Bill I've learned so much from your channel I truly appreciate all your knowledge and wisdom!

I know this post is several months old, but there is a saying I say to customers when they bring there vehicle in for work, "If you take care of your vehicle, then the vehicle will take care of you.". I tell customers that if you have a simple minor issue, bring it up and fix it. like a light bulb out, or whatever. if something is not right. get it fix right there and then. don't wait until more bad things start breaking.

clys69 thats not true my guy the vt365 is more reliable than the 6.0l ford didnt tweak the 365 its international through and through, its also much weaker than the 6.0l hence why its more reliable just take the 365 and add more hp and tq and you have a 6.0l which is a major fault point cause the engine is pushing more power than it was originally designed

    Hi Bill,
Two weeks ago I was driving down the highway on my 05 F350 (62,000 miles) and the engine died. Tried to start it and cranks but no start. Had it towed to one shop but did not feel comfortable with the Mechanics there so took it home. Several mechanics told me the problem is 6.0 and I need to get rid of the truck as fast as I can. I watched your videos and with the help of a good powerstroke mechanic I think I will keep it. Thank you!

The big thing is water condensing in the motor and fouling the oil, same for fuel tanks. As long as the truck is run periodically and allowed to warm up fully you should be able to stretch the time intervals. I would recommend oil testing if you have any reservations about your oil quality.

Good video! Bottom line... Preventative maintenance is needed on every vehicle. I've used many different brands and I've come to conclusion that it doesn't matter which brand you use as long as your doing ''preventative maintenance''. Good point about using factory filters during warranty period ford ALWAYS tries to get out of warranty work.... Soooo, after that period use what you feel comfortable with just make sure u take care of your 3-F's. Keep up great vids!

  • @powerstrokehelp

No question and there are other filters out there that will work BUT they have to have the patent number printed on them (cost more) or they will not work correctly.

I have never used anything but Ford filters on my 05 f250. I have never run anything other than schaeffers 7000 15-40 synthetic blend in my truck except this last service, I put schaeffers 9000 5-40 full synthetic in it (Wisconsin, starts awesome down to -5 (coldest so far) without plugging in. cranks like you just shut it off). I've changed my oil at 17-18k every time (or every 3-4 weeks) and have run a few samples and they all come back looking like the oil is new yet, but I dump it anyhow. I'm shooting for 20k on the 9000. Every drop of fuel that truck has seen since I purchased it has had Schaeffers Diesel Treat 2000 Diesel Premium recommended amount in it, even in the -30/-40 deg f winter temps. I purchased the truck with 69,500 mi and I just turned over 160k. I have never had a fuel issue (still running original injectors tested good today) and the only oil issue I've had was the hipo pump at 94k. I love the schaeffers products and swear by them, along with the ford filters.

common oil pan leak is at the point where the pan takes the sharp turn from the rear of the pan. try to tighten the oil pan bolts other wise the pan has to be removes and resealed.

Rotella T6, 5w40, Archoil and OEM filter every 8000KM religiously.
Coolant flush every 50000km, diffs and tranny every 75000km.
After 200000 km, northern Alberta oilfield service, I've had to do brakes, batteries, an alternator and drag link.
Honest to God, take care of them properly, they will take care of you!

    @derk238 10 лет назад

Hi Bill, I appreciate all your videos. They have been extremely helpful. I have a late 1999 F-350 that has this slight ticking noise from under the hood. You can hear it fairly well listening from under the front fenders. It seems to get a bit louder as the truck gets warmer. The sound is very similar to that distinctive Ford click when the heater is on. Its not a constant tick. In a minutes time, it probably ticks 25 times. Could this be the start of an exhaust leak? Thank you

It has alot to do with how it is stored. A full tank of fuel will last a very long time. A half or worse yet a quarter full tank will go bad very quickly depending on humidity and temperature changes during the course of the day. In the South where it is humid much of the time. If you have a 90F day and a 70F night the damp air will get into the tank vent and at night water will condense out of the air onto the cooler walls of the tank. But if the tank is full this will not be so bad.

Bill, Great videos Thank you! Have you tried Justice Brothers ? I have tested it against all the Diesel additives you are showing...JB outperformed all in tests. As a water dispersant, cetane improver and injector maintenance it has no rivals. They also have a Product called “Heavy Duty Vehicle” oil additive. Best on the market... outperformed all others in tests.im a former JB Rep. It is a Professional Product... sometimes you can find it at a local NAPA, or call a JB distributor.

They are both labeled as Motorcraft FL-2016 and both filters look identical. Though I don't see Motorcraft wrote on the filter with PN ab. Are they the same filter? They are both sold as Motorcraft oil filters.

Since this is an old video and I don't see any recent oil use recommendations, I want to ask you if there are any newer oils that are now on the market (that maybe don't shear as easily as T6 does)? (I have a 05 6.0 w/ a stock engine that has 100k on it.)

Would you say the same things if it were a 7.3 liter? Or are you going to a video specifically for the 7.3 in the near future?

what oil is recommended for ford 7.3 auto transmission. The 4100 transmission. What additive is recommended ?Any advice will be helpful.

Mercon Sp is what the transmission in the 6.0 and 6.4 call for. Is there any special reason you switched over to Mercon LV which the 6.7s use?
