Raymond and Cynthia’s vow since his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in 2017

Raymond and Cynthia James have been married for 55 years. They share the story of how they met and how their relationship has helped them face his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis together.
Both he and his wife Cynthia are originally from the Caribbean Island of Trinidad, where Raymond was born and lived until his mid-20s. They tell us their story and explain how art and the Alzheimer's Society are helping Raymond live with dementia.

What is dementia?
‘Dementia’ describes a group of symptoms that include problems with memory, thinking or language, and changes in mood, emotions, perception and behaviour. Dementia is a progressive disease, which means symptoms may be relatively mild at first, but they get worse over time. There are many types of dementia but Alzheimer’s disease is the most common. The next most common is vascular dementia.
