    Best opening sequence in the history of cinema! The car, the scenery, the song - utter perfection! And then... bang! It’s the mafia!

    When you see a film like this, you realize from the remake how great things were then compared with the “now” of the remake. And greater still compared with now.

    I have a deep fondness of this era. This guy was class. Dress shirt, dress pants, Italian shades, slimline watch, Miura.
    He exemplified the style of the era.
    Now it’s just kids in Gucci hoodies with daddy’s money having paid for a Huracan.
    No semblance of class, whatsoever.

    I was 9 when our dad took is to the cinema (Savoy on O'Connell St. Dublin) to see this. I almost cried when the mob trashed the two E-types and Caine's Aston. I thought the Miura was 'nice' but it wasn't an E-type! I'm 59 now and haved owned a Porsche 911 (model 993) since 2005 (yeah it was my doctor's). I'd love to just drive a Miura now. I guess I've always liked cars.

    Guardando attentamente l'auto che rotola lungo il burrone, si vede che non c'è il motore. C'è solo la socca. Inoltre quando nel cinema fanno vedere solo l'esplosione e non l'impatto, vuol dire che non c'è stato nessuno scontro.

      Jensen incredible car! With antilocking brakes and integral traction was a car of the future...

    • @psk1w1
      @psk1w1 5 лет назад +2

      @@CapitanFindus415 The regular Jensen Interceptor was nothing special technically. It was the FF version which had the pioneering Ferguson 'Formula 4wd system and Dunlop Maxaret brakes.
      This four wheel drive system had a neat epicyclic torque split device which sent 2/3 of the torque to the rear wheels and 1/3 to the front, so it maintained traction when grip is short, and also handling balance and finesse. The Maxaret brakes were developed for aircraft and had never been tried on a car before. The system gave VERY heavy pulses through the brake pedal as it operated.
      People who tried the Jensen FF in the '60s were astonished at just how capable the car was, but it was a sales flop due top its high cost, and the difficulty of converting it to left hand drive limited sales abroad. The problem was that the drive to the front wheels was on the left side of the gearbox and engine, intruding on the seat and footwell area It crosses my mind that they could have re-designed the transfer casing to put the front drive on the right side for lhd cars, but that's hindsight.. Only 320 were produced from 1966-72.
      The FF was way ahead of its time, and interest in fwd for road cars was not re-awakened until the Audi Quatro cars of the '80s.

      @CapitanFindus415 5 лет назад

      @@psk1w1 Thank you! But I said Jensen cars were famous in the past for integral traction and mechanic antiskid (the same of the Ford Escort in '80), not that Jensen "Interceptor" has all these things. I wanted to be quick...

      Traceable to whom in a mountain river where it will be washed to the sea? In any event, it's a story, and part of it is the idea that the Mafia are a parallel law unto themselves outside of normal state rules. Indeed, that was true in part. I recall from that period that the Italian state set up special investigators and judges to tackle Mafia corruption as the organisation's fingers corrupted the local police and judiciary. It was not without its dangers as there werre many assassinations.
      In any event, it's poetic licence. If you are into implausible parts of the story line, there's a lot more in the rest of the film than that opening scene.
