Recently heard that my friends wanted to get back into Brawl and Smash is general so I looked up this video so I can body some souls. I'll keep practicing, thanks for the help.
A forward throw to forward throw is the same timing on every character. F-throw isnt effected by weight unlike Down throw and Back throw, some character just have funny hitboxes and its hard. The timing for it is grab with Nana when Popo's hammer is at the farthest back animation, grab with Popo when Nana hits the opponent with her hammer. Back throw is different from character to character. Hard to explain when I dont have a specific example.
Great tutorial - I'm slowly improving with chaingrabs but I still have a long way to go. Will keep practising until I'm at the level where 1 grab = 1 stock! =)
chaingrabs and combos like this are exactly what made Ice Climbers #2 on the tier list... If this chaingrab didn't exist they'd probably only be mid-tier or lower. Same with Falco's dthrow chaingrab+spike combo.
They barely base it on tourny results, follow smashboards for a bit and see the stupid things that happen. Its more of that they have the potential to be used in S tier if played by a robot, but statistically they are roughly mid A.
Jigglypuff is roughly the 3rd hardest character in the game to chaingrab, as its so light that you have literally 4 frames to do the inputs. Its nearly instant compared to the other light characters.
I myself dont use a wiichuck, but I would assume you would have to make a grab button and the rest would be the same. You just have to know what pivot grabs are and how to preform them.
Actually on the wiki it states "A tier list is decided based on the analysis of the following; the metagame and the effectiveness of the characters' strategies, each character's moveset and statistics, each character's matchup spread, and each character's tournament results."
This is also fair game, as it doesnt break the metagame or anything. It is basically the same situation as wobbling. Only rule is you are not allowed to do it past 300% on a single stock, or else you get DQ for stalling.
Little Kitty a pivot grab is a dash in one direction then quickly pressing the opposite direction causing your character to quickly turn around while still keeping the momentum of the dash. if done correctly your character will dash and do a 180 turn facing the opposite way then you just grab. Ex: dash right > quickly tap the left afterwards while pressing the grab button Hope I was able to explain it well enough 😅
No, the tier list you are referring to is based around opinions and not results. If you go by tourny results ICies are around 8th or 9th while everyone else roughly stays the same.
When I do any of the chain grabs in this video for some odd reason when I go for the regrab with Nana or Popo after a throw sometimes one of them will do a DASH GRAB instead (because of this, I can only do the B-throw to D-throw chain grab do to the fact that chain grab still regrabs with a dash grab. But the other chain grabs won't work because I will go right through them and miss the regrab because I miss inputted causing me to do a dash grab instead). Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, pls????? P.S. I am using a GameCube controller btw.
+Billy Billy Bo Willy Banana Fana Fo Filly It's not my decision, I bought my Wii on 2011 and it apparently was a new model who can't take GameCube controllers, I have a GameCube and 2 controllers, they just don't work on my Wii...
So glad this exists, Thank you so much!!! Also, is it possible to perform these with a GameCube Controller? Yeah it is. The popo d-throw to Nana f-air chain grab is easy for me to use against Diddy Kong. I’ve done it in Training mode many times and mastered it. The other chain grabs I have a very hard time with. Could you help me out? Good tutorial otherwise...
The character always seems to have traveled too far for me to get a second grab. Even if I press b-throw and immediately grab nothing happens even though I can see nana attempting a grab.
Whenever I try to do a chain grab, I do the first method right, except that I can't grab the person after I do an F-air with Nana because Popo won't go forward enough. Help?
You can hold forwards after the hit and walk a bit before the regrab. It looks like the opponent is able to move, but they are actually kinda stuck in the ground. You have enough time to walk forwards and grab if you do it right.
how do i do the infinite chain grab without Nana running when i do the back throw?, and why doesn't it ever work when i do the infinite chain grab on the lightweights?
If you are lost on the first step of wobbling, to regrab as Nana just as Popo backthrows, you need to press the grab button immediately (0,1 seconds or something like that) after backthrowing. You won't succeed if you aren't lucky. Nana may roll, trip, or just be a doofus.
It's really only recommended with a gamecube controller, though I've heard classic controllers are fine as well. However, I have yet to hear of anybody using a wii-mote and/or nunchuck to chain-grab.
enz2103 PotatoMinun I can do this with every controller... whatever works the best for you... However it is FAR harder to actually get the grab and convert with wiimote because of the limited amount of buttons on the controller
Shake smash makes finishing these combos WAY more fun... You literally Usmash IRL... My good wii broke a while ago and I had to learn wii mote nunchuck, and it isn't half bad besides the 3 extra frames of lag
That was a Melee thing. Due to the grabbing being restructured in Brawl. It’s an unfortunate nerf to the ice climbers. I also created a different form of wobbling, though it is temporary. Popo pummel to Nana jab attack. You’ll need to do this many times if you want to get the same results.
I don't really follow competitive brawl, only melee, so how game breaking is this? Is this sort of technique banned in tourneys? I know wobbling (chain grabbing with ice climbers in melee) is fair game.
thanks, with this tutorial i won a 5$ local brawl tournament

In most tournaments, if you chaingrab someone to 300% in one stock it is considered stalling and you get DQed for it. Thats all.

Yes, you can do this with a classic controller. In fact, I use a Classic when I normally play. Just map things so that it works.
what about a side ways controller? i lost my Game cube controller :(
Lol where do you get a GameCube controller :p
I play with a nunchuck, feels like I am not permitted to do combos with it since every guide is with some sort of oldschool thing :P
Natboy129 Definitly won't work, buddy. lol

great video. still love brawl.also i personally think a good chaingrab on lightweights and mediums are b-throw to b-throw.
I can't get the nana regrab after nana d-throw,

You’ll need to time it. I tried doing this against my friends and I won with it. Try timing it. Don’t just press grab too late or too early.

Just hold the grab button a little bit longer then usual, it will cause nana to sheild and slide into place again.
So technical. I love this!!!!
Ill admit that, but I didn't realize that when I uploaded it. Honestly forgot the text outline :(

Thanks a ton! This guide helped me so much
thanks this helped with Ice Climbers being my main!!
I can really only do three parts of Bthtow to Dthrow without the chain breaking
When I do b throw to d throw, nana keeps rolling, any tips?
What am I doing wrong if I keep sliding with Nana on the back throw
Having some trouble chain grabbing Jigglypuff. Back throw to Nana doesn't seem to connect like the other light characters.
No, the tier list you are referring to is based around opinions and not results. If you go by tourny results ICies are around 8th or 9th while everyone else roughly stays the same.
in the popo bthrow to nana down throw, how do you get nana to shield once popo catches nana's down throw? my nana always grabs instead of shields
Fox isn't heavy, he is a fast faller.
Big difference there.
"more damage doesn't hurt"

the holding z to charge smashes doesn't work for me.... why
is grabbing, throwing, letting them fly and grabbing them when they’re 1 inch above the ground a chain grab?

You can't. They move independently when one lands a grab.

You have to wait a small period after the initial grab because Nana is in the grab whiff animation while Popo isnt.
You basically have to press the second grab right as you press back on the control stick. It's a near frame perfect trick.
