    That's hilarious. Typical American response (No offence to you dude).
    Last night I was doin some night flyin with lights on my AXN and I got a little too far away. I couldn't figure out which way I was headed and eventually my plane dove behind some trees in the distance and then crashed near a couple of houses. I went to search for it and heard my ESC beeping in the backyard of one of these houses. I rang the doorbell at 10:30 PM and apoligized for ringing their doorbell this late. I explained what happened and asked politely if I could run around the back to get it. He agreed without any fuss. Turned out my plane was behind his fence on his neighbours property who wasn't home. He then told me to just climb the fence and get it. His neighbour wouldn't mind he said. After I got it back he even looked at the damage with me and was very concerned about the money it would cost to repair it.
    Now that's the way people should get along don't you think. If you agree, move to the Netherlands. ;)

    It absolutely disturbed me that people sided with the angry guy. Every day, my neighbors ride on incredibly - ear splitting loud ATVs, and leave hideous tread marks on the lawn. Do I call the SWAT team and try to behead the riders with an axe? No, no sane person would even dream of physically threatening them. Same should apply to this.

    I'm not sure throwing rocks was the right thing to do. Was that the first time you had flown there? Or have you flown there often?
    How loud is the plane from the ground? Maybe he works nights and the plane was keeping him awake? Just speculating of course, but if it is loud from the ground, maybe you flew too close to his house?
    Why didn't he come talk to you? How was he supposed to know where you were?

    No need for any criminal complaints here. No FAA rules broken. No Motor Vehicle Violations. No threat to the public. This is a civil matter. I defend your privilege and his to sue.

    I fly drones, have for years, and there are things I agree with here and things I don't. First of all, throwing rocks at someones model is stupid and uncalled for. If he had hit the model and destroyed it I would think he should be responsible for the damage, and the baseball bat thing, that should be considered a deadly weapon in the context in which it was used. I would think an act like that would be considered terroristic threatening and the officer should have at least given some sort of reprimand for it.
    As far as your flying, you are without a doubt an excellent pilot but as someone said, there was a lot of beautiful scenery to fly over, why fly over peoples homes and not once but several times even after you saw him throw the stone. At that point you were clearly taunting him which was uncalled for and childish even given his actions. If you didn't see him than you probably wouldn't have seen a kid he may have had playing in the yard, Of course I'm not saying there was but there certainly could have been. I've been in this hobby probably since before most of you were born. I've owned a hobby shop for years and I've seen boats, cars, airplanes, helicopters and multi rotor aircraft lose control and crash, sometimes with bodily injuries or property damage. That leaves a possibility, however remote, of that happening and causing injury or damage. It's actions like your's that contribute to the reason all drone pilots have to register with the FAA now. I'm not concerned about that but it's something I didn't need to deal with. I know that I am going to be trashed over my opinion by people like the brain trust that suggested to do shit bombing practice on him, or the rocket scientist that suggested he was jerking off, These are supposed to be intelligent comments? but it's my opinion and it was my understanding that this was supposed to an intelligent conversation here. That's all I have to say for what it's worth.

    • @SirFrag32
      @SirFrag32 6 лет назад

      A, not all drone pilots had to register, only those over .55lbs. Also, that requirement has been relaxed.

    I'm a land surveyor and people would be surprised about how much direct, public interaction the job entails.
    The understanding/concept of a public right of way is one of the things folks have the hardest time grasping; in general, the theme is, "if I mow it, it is mine" and the sense of entitlement goes from there. It's not the majority of people who react with outright hostility, but it is prevalent. Once I walked up the sidewalk holding a shovel and a lady darted out of her house yelling "Quit digging up my lawn!". Another chased me out into a soy field... in her Buick... after I accessed the field from my client's paved driveway entrance. And, yes, I've had the cops visit me while working more than a few times. Thankfully the police tend to be experts in dealing with people and know the score almost instantly. Operating an instrument on a tripod is something cops pick up on more quickly than the public, I guess...
    It is very strange how many folks have a kind of primordial stimulus/response mindset and will throw rocks or be overtly hostile (or support such behavior in youtube comments) when they simply see a situation with which they are unfamiliar. I guess we all have experienced this as children, or at some point but it's astounding how many people never evolve beyond it.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +1

      I am beginning to see the same thing, Juan. I am astounded at all the visceral hatred in these comments! I mean, people tend to bark louder when behind the protection of a keyboard, but the number of people here that say they would react the same or worse is mind boggling, and they are the reason the government thinks people can't think for themselves and need to be treated accordingly.

      We have a similar problem in the rural subdivision I live with lots from 3 acres up to 15 acres. In the covenants, it states there is a 1' easement between adjoining lots. That means 2' for someone to walk down to the lake if they so desired but also for utility easements like storm runoff. But these idiots think it's their property and they can do what they want. 80% have never read the deed restrictions on what they can do on their lots and what they can't do. It's a f-ing zoo here to deal with.

  • @padams561

    The reason I worry so much about people flying close to populated areas is this. Our flying field got shut down due to a pilot loosing control of his plane and it flew into a baseball park and hit a kid. We finally were aloud to open after implementing no fly zones and a certification program. All it will take for us to lose our field permanently is for some one to come in and fly the way you did in this video and god forbid loose control of their plane and hurt someone. What you did looks like a lot of fun and you look like a great pilot. Be honest though. How many planes have you crashed due to equipment failure? That guy had no right to do what he did, but the pilot in this video overstepped what common sense tells us not to do.

  • @MrJimmyp39
    @MrJimmyp39 9 лет назад +1

    I am a model aircraft hobbyist and love flying FPV. Technically the home owner is in the wrong as flying over someone's property is not against the law. People do not own air space. I am in the process of obtaining a flight permit to use a UAV for commercial use and know the rules. You require permission from property owners to take off and land on their property but you do not need permission to fly over property.
    But that being said if someone was taking low passes around my home I would be upset as well. When I fly fpv for my hobby I fly far from populated areas out in the country over farm land. I have permission to take off and land at my cousin's farm. In the air I stay well away from buildings and people. Lesson learned here is not to blame someone for being upset at you but to use the learning in how to be polite to others and keep this hobby fun for all (including those not in the hobby)

    You should have called the police on him because he had a threatening weapon out in the open public, bringing that bat to you is no different than walking out waving a gun, his intention was to intimidate or hurt you. Who cares if you flew over his house, if its that big a deal he can take you to court, just because you commited a very minor offence, even if such an offence exits, it doesnt give him the right to take the law into his own hands with a bat, you win every time, plus i dont think i have ever heard anyone getting procuted for flying a model over a house!

      I'm with you. If people stop by when I'm flying FPV I ask if they want a look? Stick the thing on RTH and or fly it L.O.S and give them a taste of why I love FPV. All the people that have put on the goggles were amazed and loved it. Some have even been inspired enough to state they want to give it a go themselves!!!
      And yet, a close neighbour in my street cant stand my hobby, FPV or otherwise and has complained on many occasions about me flying at the football fields that back on to our street. At the end of the day, some people cant stand to see other people enjoying themselves!!! Just human nature I guess???

      blackbirdboy1 I don't use Goggles but a 7" monitor and this lets people watch what I'm doing and so far everyone has loved it. Since my quadcopter attracts a crowd I'm working on turning an older 21" LCD monitor for the "passengers" view using a battery, converter, and mount it on an cooler with wheels. I have an extra receiver and just put the antenna on a tripod (so they don't stand in front of the antenna and block the signal). I get so many questions about the OnScreenData it's hard to concentrate.

    So...what was the real reason the guy got so annoyed? Why did he feel angry at all? In a similar situation, if I knew nothing about the subject, I suspect I´d have been delighted to see the plane fly by and interested to see who was controlling it, and how. Has any FPV enthusiast consulted a psychologist to try and get a handle on why so many otherwise reasonable people turn into aggressive loonies when around FPV models? Do they feel spied upon, is it the noise, or is it something more subtle?

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +2

      My best guess, since he didn't realize until much later that it was being piloted by video, is that he probably thought we were intentionally and repeatedly buzzing him, or felt that we were encroaching on his "bubble." Perhaps he thought we were trying to prank him from a hidden location, or get a rise out of him? Honestly though I have no idea, I haven't talked to him since the incident. He probably could not see (or didn't bother to look) where we were controlling it from, initially. Maybe it has something to do with some people's fear of things they don't understand?

      secretspy711 I commented in length on your original video before I saw this. Give the guy a little break...He could be one of the millions of Americans who have diabetes which can cause erectile dysfunction and maybe turn them into raving lunatics. Think about it! Seriously, I've met his kind in many occasions as I was in retail my whole life and had to put up with them. Obviously, living with only one other house in that failed subdivision doesn't help his property values much. Maybe people that like solitude and are anti-social would like to live there. Regardless, common sense and normal societal politeness should tell him to converse with you first before threatening your property or calling the police. Anyway, great flying and keep posting those videos.

    You were remiss by flying across the corner of the property BUT at no other point were you doing ANYTHING wrong, you have permission (which I get in Writing) you are in a public place with free access, technically he is the one trespassing by approaching you as he does not have permission from the developer's.
    There are far too many people including police that DO NOT understand the Law as it applies to various persuits, and different countries have different rules also .

  • @thenatedog
    @thenatedog 8 лет назад +3

    +Nathan Knight My 2cents on the video: Being that you didnt know you were irritating someone and you were obviously in a rural dead end area away from town and had permission, i dont think you were doing anything wrong. Perhaps technically you broke some rules, but honestly even kids are not supposed to drive there remote control cars in public roads. As long as its not causing any issues the police dont care. If you are like me, as soon as somebody made an issue you would just find a new spot. Who wants to fly around that drama?
    And to all these guys that think its ok to try and destroy your plane: Even if he was in person trespassing on that dudes property, that does not give him the right to steal from him. If he drove his car onto his property can you walk up and shoot out his windows or bust them out? Since than we have see several people get taken to jail for shooting down drones. Lol. You just used a deadly weapon to destroy close to a thousand dollars in property. Thats no little thing.

    I do have a question though. It looks as though you are somewhere along the front range in Colorado, without being too specific, (this is the internet after all,) where are you flying? If I had to guess I would say somewhere north of Broomfield...

    Yes you where wrong to fly over the corner of his house low and fast. The way to deal with people if you are flying fpv near their house on the edge of town would be especially that would be to stop by his house and be very cool about it to make sure there is no issue. He seemed to be the only house on your block. You need to go above and beyond using this gear. Look at the shotgun KY incident. Dont fly around people and their house unless you talked to them. Seems to be an obvious trend to keep the gray black and white.

    Drone pilots have gotta learn what pilots of manned aircraft have known for a long time: Don't annoy the neighbors, or they WILL SHUT YOU DOWN! Be nice to the neighbors wherever you fly.

    I am impressed at how responsible you when it comes to flying your plane with only TWO caveats. If you have a flight path that takes you within 50 meters or so of occupied private property, you should contact the POLICE BEFORE you fly and file a flight plan with THEM. Then you might consider visiting any occupied places near your flight path BEFORE you fly to let the people therein know what you will be doing. For your legal protection, consider wearing a BODY-CAM when you visit the occupied places. QUESTION- do you keep a pilot's style FLIGHT LOG with not only flight data, but any information about ANYTHING ELSE directly or tangentially related to your flights. This could prove useful as you add new capabilities to your aircraft.

    I read many, but not all, of the 234 comments and am sorry if some of this has already been discussed:
    1) I didn't know flying over someone's property is wrong or illegal. Is it? As a kid, I flew kites and frisbees over people's property all the time. No one ever came at me with a baseball bat. Plus, I have several REAL aircraft flying directly over my house constantly (I live near a U.S. AF base) and they make MUCH more noise than any RC vehicle. And if one of them crashes, it's gonna cause a lot more damage, death, and mayhem than any RC vehicle.
    2) If privacy is a concern: If you're out in public, you have no expectation of privacy. So if you're photographed or videoed-by any device-you're privacy has not been violated. (How can you expect privacy when you're in public?)

      1. it depends. a landowner owns as much of the airspace above his property that he can reasonably use in connection with the land. so, more than 1 inch, probably less than 400 feet. he'd have to prove how much he needs in order to be able to enjoy his use of the land.

    Dear secretspy711
    You have every reason, in my opinion in no time you were invasive or you had no misconduct; you were simply having fun in a healthy way without disturbing anyone.
    Took this video at a table discución with experts in psychology and discussed was that this guy, who throws stones, has aggressive behavior, is likely to suffer some kind of psychopathy, this frustrated, that his act is violent and not observes respect for the law or empathy for people. It is an abusive guy, who prefers to solve violent, intolerant and insensitive to other people.
    I think it is always better to resolve a situation talking and not fighting. I congratulate you on the video, it's fun and fly very well.
    What a shame that there are people like that. A hug, man.

    I fly a Solo in Canada current laws for hobby flying are saying 150 meters (450 feet from building, people cars and animal). I'm not saying this is the best decision as far as restrictions) but the other factor to consider is the perception of people not involved in the hobby. Regulating body (goverments) main concerns are safety. The public in general main concern is privacy. We have to be aware of this and I always take any opportunity to go toward people around to "promote safe private flying" and get their feeling about my flying. To me it's part of the environment we have to be aware and manage. There are many part of the video where people could have been angry. Ex at 9:04 turning on that street there could have been a car that your fpv would not have given you a chance to see before the last few seconds at the most, 9:14 flying low over those trucks, the distance from the house with high definition camera = people worry about their privacy. What I'm trying to say is people's perceptions will be different thant the one doing this hobby. Not considering those factors will increase the risks of people not appreciating the activity. Resulting in a wide range of ways people will express their concern. I agree the homeowner could have handle this way better but there were many events in this video that increased the risk of anoying someone. Let's promote safety and privacy, the reputation of this hobby / business is on the line with all news media that are just waiting for sad events to put in their news.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  8 лет назад

      +Gilles Girard The neighborhood has one way in, one way out. So the turn at 9:04 is moot, the only way a car could have been there is if someone who lived in that house got in and drove away. Which is also why I had a spotter. 9:14, well... I am confident in my piloting skills and got even closer at one point. The house with the red car knows we fly with cameras, they don't care. The house where the guy threw rocks, he didnt know there was a camera onboard until I was explaining to the police officer.

    • @gillesgirard7812
      @gillesgirard7812 8 лет назад

      +secretspy711 looks like you had the situation covered for most of the events . I'm not trying to point fingers. something triggered the man. Whatever it was is something to be aware that people may react to and will have various degree to express their concern. obviously this guy was not a low flyer:) I come from an airplane RC background. We had a good place to fly until houses started to appear closer and closer. We opted to move out before people would start complaining. We had permission from the city and we were fully aware it would not have taken much taxpayers to complain that the permissions would have been lost. What I'm trying to say is there is someone with a bad attitude toward drones over there, chances are you will not be able to change his state of mind. Chances are the more events with this guy have with drones the more he will be one of those talking against drones. Is it fair? Is he right? those are not relevant. It should be managed like big turbulence... staying away until you would find a way to get the guy to tell you an acceptable distance you could respect. otherwise this is an unknown variable that should be accounted for when deciding where to fly. Is there other places with less risk? What is the cost of flying elsewhere vs what is the cost or having people talking against us? In a few years where will we be able to fly if we loose our reputation?

Maybe send him a nice floral arrangement he can plant in his yard (when he isn't rock collecting) would make him a "friend" instead of "foe". I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I would imagine the homeowner has a very different one than you. As you get older you start to better understand the value putting yourself in other people's shoes.
    This guy has an obviously nice house in a remote location and probably enjoys the solitude. When that is threatened by something maybe he doesn't understand, he reacted like he did. I'm not saying he was justified but people can have extreme reactions when it comes to defending their homes and families. Maybe he had a bad day at work, maybe his wife is sick, maybe his kid got hit in the eye at school, maybe he's just a jerk. Whatever his deal is, your flying provoked the reaction. I'm not defending the guy but trying to understand why he acted like he did.
    Think about how this could have been different had you taken the time to introduce yourself, explain that you have permission to be there and where you intend to fly. If you would have done this BEFORE you flew, who knows, maybe he would be there next time flying with you. But now, he's probably going to be wary of you and who knows what he might do next time.
    People have lost AMA certified flying fields for much, much less. Sometimes all it takes is one pissed off, motivated person ranting and raving at city council meeting and before you know it, you are done flying.
    One last thing, and take it with a grain of salt; you seem like a competent pilot but be careful what you post online. If you ever have an accident in the future involving someone else, any lawyer worth their salt will search through RUclips for these kinds of videos and spin it around on you pretty quick.
    Good luck in the future.
    A fellow RC and FPV pilot..

    This is awesome video!! and flying. I have quite a bit of acreage and the property next to me is empty, but my neighbor behind has some awesome terrain to fly and video tape. I always ask before I fly and I never fly near his house. I do fly at night ( I can better see my lights) and I had to tell one of my neighbors that it wasn't a UFO (because of the calls asking us to look in the sky). So far no complaints and the deer think it's a giant bug and just continue to eat; I fly it high enough as not to disturb them.

As I have said before, the reason I didn't notice the rock-thrower until I had passed him several times was because he was not actually in the intended flight path. Had he been standing directly where I intended to fly, then it would have been obvious and he would have been avoided. Perfect example of real-world "tunnel-vision" while concentrating on the task at hand.

    We all need to be very careful. It doesn't take much for the public to turn against us and convince the FAA to slap on major restrictions.
    Our hobby won't be the first, nor the last, to be shutdown by public pressure.
    That guy lives in a nice house, he probably has more than a few important connections.
    The ball may already be in motion to shut our flying down in his community. And the fact that he has a bat, and is brave enough to walk out in the middle of nowhere and look for somebody, shows that he's pretty mad. And pretty brave.
    Poway, California (part of San Diego), just shut down our flying. We need to be extremely careful about public perception because the public doesn't pay attention to facts, they pay attention to perception, and worst-case scenarios.
    Any protective mom who looks at this video will be scared to death that her kids could be walking down the street and get killed by a wayward cruise missile. We all know how moms can be-extremely protective.
    Once something like this shows up on CNN, it will be all over. The FAA is extremely serious about public safety, and always reacts harshly. They always swing the needle on the side of safety - always.
    It's not weather we think we're right or wrong, it's what CNN will do with it, and who at the FAA will get fired over it, and what congressman can't get re-elected because he ignored an angry guy with a bat.
    Thanks.

Like I already said, a buddy of mine hit another friend with a plane like this, didn't even bruise the guy. Keep in mind this is an EPP (soft FOAM) plane with a pusher prop. I've also hit my own car with another plane, not even a scratch. Geez it's not like I was flying a gas-powered plane with a heavy engine up front.

    Morally, you're wrong for flying near his dwelling, more than once over. However, that does not justify him to throw rocks at your aircraft and threaten you with a bat. Just the act of throwing a rock or rocks at an RC plane (currently recognized as an aircraft) could land him a felony, not including the willful destruction of property and brandishing. Lesson learned, just don't fly near a person's house, and always have your cell phone in case of nut jobs like that guy. Common sense on the side of the homeowner, just go up to you and ask you not to fly near his house. I guess that was too hard for him.

    As you get older your frustration at new technology can manifest itself in a myriad of different ways. The term 'older' could be in your 30's, if you have never shown an interest in UAV's whether they are planes, copters or multirotors it makes no difference. The noise infiltrates his home ( I bet that if he went inside and turned on the TV he would NOT hear it ) which looking at the remoteness of his property his border is as large as he wants it. You had permission from the land owner, was it up to him to phone the "Bat"man, probably but if he thought that there was no problem with you flying over the empty roads and lots, then c'est la vie. It is unfortunate that his aggression got the better of him. If it was me I would have either gone over to where you were based and ask for a turn flying your plane or I would have got out a drone and brought you down with a paracord noose attached to the drone ( LOL, if I had a drone, JOKE ). The legislation in the Western world will soon be so rigid and unfair that many with UAV's will give up flying partly due to dinosaurs like this guy.

    Oh what the hell, I'll chime in.
    He threw rocks before you cut over his property. The first time you passed his house you were to the right of the fence so technically not on his property. Although later you did cut the corner of his property, it was a minor offense and should have just received a warning for it. Throwing rocks or swinging a bat at the plane for crossing his property is like shooting someone for jaywalking. Then to carry the bat to where you were sitting is approaching you in a threatening manner.
    Of course I'm just an armchair judge and I've never flown an RC plane (yet) so my opinion really doesn't count. What about before starting your flight you approach homeowners in the area and let them know what you are doing. This way they can express any concerns they may have and you'll know who to avoid during your flight. Just my opinion, nothing much.

    You did nothing wrong. You didn't aggravate him on purpose. And if he was a normally balanced human he would have nicely come and asked you to keep a little distance. And you would have. People like that are scary. I literally have hundreds of hours of fpv video. For about 4 years I worked in Hawaii. While I was there I gave myself a project to try and get a complete video collection of the perimeter of the island. Oahu. (most of the commenters would have known this if they'd looked at my channel) The video i'm going to share is of my experience when I came across a nude beach. Nude beaches are illegal. So I admit, I took another pass because me, and my wife didn't believe our eyes the first time. Same thing happens. Guy throws his sandal at my quad, and we decided to leave. He follows us out to my car and it's all on video. 700000 views and only 4 death threats. In retrospect and from that time forth I just stay away from populations of people equalling more than 1. Read some of the comments. It's killed my interest in sharing video for fun on youtube. The one thing that really amazes me is this. I was actually not the one breaking the law. And to this day I don't feel bad for interrupting a nice quiet day at a nude beach. Just glad I didn't take my nieces and nephews down there to swim. I only use youtube to have another form of redundant backup of all my fpv video just in case i lose it all in a flood or something. ---link--- I put spaces in the link just in case they block links in the comments section https ://youtu.be /PiSEIUnPlEE

    I saw the whole video..whew, great flying... I also heard the fpv audio part where you actually see him in the road and I feel that you did not try to buzz his house, but avoid HIM, and cutting ever so slightly across his property was clearly unintentional and a result of avoiding him stepping into the road and your known flightpath, because he was anticipating your return. You have excellent control of your craft. It may not be obvious to someone who doesn't fly fpv. you know what I mean.
    Angry man is just that ''Angry'' ..and no matter what's going on they are looking for a fight. He was wrong how he handled it..rocks, bat, intimidation... Fun to imagine releasing a small payload of poo like birds do. Wait until they start developing and building around him. one can see that there will be more lots...lots more. He can throw rocks at backhoes and loaders. Thanks for sharing and an awesome ride! ...

    No one has ever had a bad thing to say about my flying but I fly drones and like to stay at least tree top high , and after they see a little video of that they understand I'm not violating there personal space seeing as they cant even make out their own face at tree top height . If I fly over peoples land , I am at least 150' up . The problem is bad press , and people don't know what you can really see . So in the future as you did with the officer offer to take them for a short spin on the screen is best because they can still see what is going around them . I tell people to come have a look over my solder ( being friendly ) that shows trust and they are OK with being behind me . I have yet to have anyone walk away negative because they see I am not spying on them and 99% say wow thats cool , old and young . I may someday run into a AW like your guy and will try to deal with him the same as always but the key is not to fly low close to anyone's house or property , because until you show them they don't know what you can see . I agree you were over the road and that should be ok but it is up to us to change all the bad press that is so irresponsible . They read one or two bad story's and assume that is what we all are doing . Fly safe and responsibly and respectfully , try to educate the public to the truth . Remember the press only tells the lie rarely the truth .

And so what if it hit someone or something , Coming from someone who has hit themselves at over 100MPH with my own foamy ZII with laminate, I can tell you that there is no way these thing can damage to anything or anyone unless you are intentionally trying to do so!
    So what he was flying in the street, so what he cut a corner over the property. did it hurt anyone, did someone suffer because of this. Even if the government steps in and say you cant do this, I know I still will. I mean really what are they gonna do ban RC airplanes...... I would like to see them try, also video transmitters will always be available because people use them for security systems. The only difference will be that I would not post my videos online and BAM problem solved. For anyone thinking that you are right and this person was wrong you are not very intelligent. What a jackass. All he had to do was ask you not to fly close to his property like a normal person. You're a lot nicer than me. I would have circled his house at full throttle after that, being sure to stay "off his property" but just barely and make sure it's all filmed so I couldn't get charged. If he did hit it with a rock or whatever, have him charged with destruction of property. You should have had him arrested for threatening you with a bat (Jailable offence right there) and the bat was on camera. Mind you, if someone walked up to me angry with a bat, I would think he was going to attack me with it so I would just react and attack first before he got a chance to hit me with it. I would be in the right legally. He came at me with a weapon with malicious intent. I feared for my life. It's his own fault he has a bruised eye and ego. Next time he would think twice about being a psycho.

    Great work, fairly decent flying and some fantastic FPV recording going on. Now, with regards to him getting upset.
    I think he was well within his right to be upset at a small whining machine flying past his property repeatedly, at a time most people would be having their evening meal. In hindsight it was a poor location to fly at. I'm not familiar with US law however most places where people live have local laws and regulations that stop unnecessary noise pollution in such areas and at certain times. If not then the phrase 'Just because you can, doesn't mean you should' comes to mind.
    Of course its not like you were intentionally trying to set him off, it was just an accident right? He's intitled to have peace and quiet and if that's his usual response to annoyance then its a good idea he lives away from the town/city center and that leaving him alone would be the best idea. Again you didn't know so it isn't a real big deal.
    I guess it should be noted that some people will intentionally antagonise people for the shear enjoyment knowing they'll get away with it. For some people who grow up with this constantly, it could lead to all activity's like this being taken as an antagonising attempt. I myself have to take a step back sometimes as this is a favourite pass time of my brother who does not know the meaning of stop. I don't expect sympathy because it is what it is. maybe you could use this anecdote next time these discussions come up?? for the record, I'm not a violent person =3

    I would have stayed a little farther from his house. That said if that guy was so offended by being buzzed why was he walking towards the plane. I live next to a field that gets crop dusted and the pilot flies very low and directly over my house (cool the first time, just drives me crazy now). Should I throw rocks at that plane and threaten the pilot? You have the right to a reasonable expectation of privacy at your home, but nobody owns the sky. And if your worried about your safety throwing rocks at a fast spinning prop isn't the best idea. But then, once again I would have stayed a bit farther away from his house in the first place.... The key to peace is both sides learning to piss each other off just the right amount.

    All FPV flyers need to steer clear of properties that have not given permission for fly overs. I have been in this sport for 30 years and don't want the government to shut us down because a few flyers don't use their heads. Everyone doesn't love the sport like we do. Some perceive us as a noisey nuisance. Cameras scare the shit out of people because privacy is GONE when someone can suspend a camera over private property. What is fun to you may be a horrible infringement to others. Flying over the street in front of that guys house probably sounded like you were right over head buzzing him. You DID cross into his property. Don't mess it up for everyone else. Use that hat rack in the proper way and think of your plane as an unwanted thing in public places. Don't think that showing off over someone elses property is going to get you a smiling property owner walking toward you. I wouldn't want you buzzing my property either. You seem very talented but things DO go wrong with FPV planes as you well know. Batteries and other components can go bad. You were also getting too close to those parked trucks that are clearly someone's livelyhood. There is lots of room where you were flying without buzzing homes and equipment.

    In the last bit of the video, you say to cite the specific law. It's not about the law, it's about being rude or not rude, and what you were doing was rude. You could of maintained more distance from his house, but you chose not too.

      +Stewkers I chose not to fly over his house, and I stayed over the road, which is the same distance from his house that cars drive. I really wish I had recorded the actual verbal confrontation... you might change your tune as to who was the one being rude.

    I fly drones in england on my property. I don't know if the rules are different in the US but You did accidentally fly over his land - but who would get that angry over a slight buzzing as you flew past his house? And he should have at least gone to court because of his actions when he threw the rocks and tried to knock the plane out of the sky with the walking stick!
    Great flying - keep it up!
    I wouldn't be that angry!!

      Yeah, and he was throwing rocks BEFORE I cut the corner of his land. So he was being aggressive when I hadn't done anything wrong.

    I've never seen a Louisville Slugger walking stick before.... And the rilayton1 guy should realize that if you're a hobbiest and low altitude flier with a craft under a certain weight then you don't have to worry. The only bans, at least here in California, are in National Parks and within 5 miles of an airport if you're over 400ft. I on the other hand have to have my drone registered and make flight plans if I want to go high. I think regulation isn't a bad thing. It was going to happen anyway the second some grandparent realized that little timmy's plane has a camera on it. (Timmy like movies about gladiators as I recall but picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue) by the way. I am an asshole. Secretspy711 is not. Know the difference....

    That guy was clearly in the wrong. Next time take a hidden button cam with you. If you had the bat on camera clear enough to be seen by the officer he could have been arrested.
    He is lucky he didn't do that to me. I have a carry permit and threatening me with a baseball bat will get a Glock drawn on you and you placed under citizens arrest. (Not sure if citizens arrest is legal in your state, but it is in mine)
    Threatening people with bats is a good way to get arrested. Trying to hit them is a good way to get shot.

      Yep. A baseball bat can kill so if someone pulls a bat on you pulling a gun on them isn't overkill. I'm not saying I'd shoot the guy but I would have arrested him. (I am a security guard. During my training I found out all about citizens arrest which btw is the only way a security guard can arrest you and hold you for the police in my state)

    Lesson learned! In the end it doesn't matter who is right or wrong! Im sure that guy got a big wake up call when you stated there was camera on the plane after what was told to the police and you now know that flying that close to someone's home can led to bad results! Plus that plane is not a small one either, lol!! I am no angle myself with some of my flying!! I have pissed quite a few people off, one being years ago an old zagi 400 wing with my new brushless setup. Went about 80mph into my neighbors house! My new model fund was kind of depleted after that one. This hobby is a learning experience for everybody weather involved or not! When we say RC to someone usually they think of a drone nowadays! Its the face of the hobby right now! I just hope it can stay around for many years to come! No one was hurt! Shit happens. Everyone makes mistakes. People learn! Ive watched your videos for a while now secertspy! Keep them up!

    Hello, secretspy711.
    Let me start with a comment that I think it's cool you're into RC planes. The tech is very cool. Also, I'm a private pilot and enjoy flying myself. I haven't flown an RC in a long time, but this new technology is amazing.
    I think it wasn't cool for you to fly over his property. In addition, it might be a good idea for you to talk to the owners of the homes that are close to your traffic pattern prior to buzzing around their homes. It's a courtesy that would go a long way with most people.
    Quite frankly, there is no way for this guy to understand why you're flying around his property and whether you're competent enough to pilot the plane, You never discussed it ahead of time. You flew subsequent laps around the property as well.
    I think you should think a little more about sharing airspace. If you have a malfunction and crash into a dwelling or car or person - it becomes a serious situation.
    You emphasize what might be had his rock brought down your craft and who would be at fault, rather than accepting responsibility for your actions. Your mentioning of not cutting across his property doesn't sound very apologetic to me.
    If you don't understand why you might upset someone with your actions, your situational awareness comes into question.
    When you're a pilot, you have responsibilities, and it goes beyond that in being courteous to those impacted by your flying.
    You asked for an opinion. I hope you enjoy your flying and that you fly safely and keep in mind those that you affect by your actions.

      willjamski I can appreciate your perspective. My father was a commercial pilot, and I took groundschool a number of years ago but have not followed it through to a PPL. A big reason why I enjoy this hobby so much is because it allows me to fly in ways that would be preposterous in a full scale aircraft. But please allow me to address your concerns.
      Firstly, the only time I flew directly over his property was the one corner cut which you saw, which I readily admit was a mistake, and since that flight I have never crossed that boundary again. I also fly much further away from his house now, and direct anyone else that flies there to do the same. I'm not sure how that could be taken as anything but apologetic, but more importantly, taken as learning the lesson. I also never did, and have not since, flown in a trajectory that would cause the plane to collide with his house, if the plane were to lose control. The vehicles at the culdesac are of course a different matter, but consider the fact that I have crashed one of my heavier planes into my own car. Said airplane had denser foam and a sharper frontal area, and my car had zero damage, not even a scratch. These planes are made of EPP foam, and have a pusher prop. It would be difficult to damage something with these planes, as they are not like the nitro-powered RC planes you are probably envisioning which have a heavy metal engine up front and rigid wood construction. Hitting a person with the type of plane I'm flying here might cause a bruise, but it's unlikely anything more serious would happen. The same friend that was acting as my spotter for this video, did hit someone (a willing participant and friend, mind you) with a similar plane recently. The plane was ripped in half, but there was no injury to the person.
      I had talked to the occupants of the only other house that existed in the neighborhood which is visible in the video, and they are fine with us flying there. And of course you're right, I could have knocked on the guy's door and explained what we intended to do. Of course I do understand why it might upset someone with absolutely no prior knowledge of our activites, but we had flown that type of pattern many times before, without a single word from him, so we figured he knew we flew there regularly and didn't mind. Obviously that was not the case. The plane is not that loud, either.
      I appreciate your comment and especially the manner in which you presented it :)

      secretspy711 Based on your reply, you seem to be a very considerate person who is aware of importance of getting buy-in from the folks you're flying around. Keep up the flying and enjoy your hobby! It looks like a bunch of fun. One of these days I'd love to try out the new RC planes. They look like so much fun to fly.
      Happy New Year, and Happy Landings!

      ***** I might take you more seriously if you knew how to spell Asimov's name, but seriously, he asked for an opinion, and I did my best to respond respectfully. Based on what I saw, I responded in kind. The dialogue was primarily between Secret and myself. I would suggest that if you decide to weigh in on this thread that you have something relevant to add to the discussion.
      I certainly admit that it's been some time since I've participated in the RC hobby, as I articulated in my initial response. But the basics of sharing airspace and understanding that a homeowner might not be happy about one flying over their property isn't limited to the latest and greatest tech. The more buy in you get from people you're flying around, the more opportunity there will be to fly. If you get enough complaints, that's when the government decides to get in the way and clamp down on use of the airspace. The whole drone thing comes to mind....and the FAA wants to get their fingers into everything....sadly.

    The recent prevalence of fpv flying is unusual to people who are not into the RC hobby. He overreacted by our standards, but from his standpoint, this is probably the first time he saw anything like this, and he didn't want it to fly so close to his house. I can understand that. Obviously throwing rocks, and bringing out baseball bats is not the proper way to let you know, but I wouldn't fly so close to properties/populated areas.

    I think you are generally in the right but since there are only a couple houses in the area I would have talked to them first to let them know what I was doing. I hate guys with really loud motorbikes hammering past my place just to make a lot of noise. I hate owners that won't shut their dogs up for hours. I hate cars with boom boxes thumping the neighborhood just to get attention. And I would likely hate a drone buzzing past my house OVER and OVER. But I would have been more than fine with it had the person shown some respect and courtesy by talking to me first.

      PolioVitruvius I look at it like this,I'd rather see kids flying airplanes ,drones,skateboarding,riding go karts,etc then being bored,boredom leads kids into to doing stupid stuff,robbing houses,stealing,finding a gun,shooting someone.I believe in letting kids be kids.Kids shouldn't walk around feeling as though adults have the last word on what activities they can do.Respect is earned not given

    That's a cool hobby you have there, I flew line control planes back in the late 70's. Always wanted to get into RC but was way too expensive. One of my other hobbies is skeet and trap shooting. Not saying I would, but in a fast taget flying situation, others may be tempted.
