    I bought the Dell 17-7000 directly from the company and today it was delivered. First impressions: like you said, I wanted a desktop replacement and this heavy duty box has the specs for serious data analytical and GIS mapping work. I ordered it with a Seagate Backup Portable Storage hard drive along with Logitech Ultrathin touch mouse and I plan on hooking it up with a second monitor. I like the industrial simplicity of its design and it has the feel of a computer fitting in an office or out in the field. I'll have it professionally configured for optimal performance and easy workflow, so there is every reason to believe this laptop should run like a champ.

    I have a Dell 17 inch for more than 3 years, and I am even surprised because it's been doing the work great so far. The other laptop I work with side to side is a Macbook 2015, so far this Dell is not backing off, so am Glad!

    The newest 15 inch model now has Infinity Edge screen like the XPS according to the Dell RUclips channel. Looking forward to a 17 inch Infinity Edge screen! Hopefully I have the cash to splurge by then.

    The reason I am finding that they do not put a 7200RPM drive in these laptops is the height of the drive. Most 7200RPM 2.5" drives are 9mm tall. The space for physical drive is limited to 7mm in some machines. So you could not even change to a 7200rpm drive if you wanted to.
    Easiest thing now is to just swap that 2.5mm with a 1 TB SSD drive to get the better speed. There are slower SSD's that would be great for storage area, and use a 960Pro M.2 in the boot slot.

    Thanks for the video. I'm using the 14" version for 2 years. I used to have 15.6" earlier. I just ordered this 17". I think it's the best 2-in-1 out there for my needs (no game, no video editing). What I don't like: battery should be bigger (there is enough space inside the body for more battery), smaller hinges (every cm matters when you're 17" screen). Power should be USB, so I can use it to charge my phone too.

    Just purchased mine from Best Buy last night! Complaints so far, is that Firefox browser crashes all the time, and I won't stand for that on a brand new computer. Edge browser can't make video calls on Facebook because the browser is not supported and they want you to download Chrome, or Firefox! What to do? Beyond that, I love my new Dell, and will figure out a way through any problems. Pretty heavy, even though it has no optical drive. No dedicated Ethernet connection. USB3 I think can be adapted. My old Dell came with a fake SD card that you could pop it out for a real card(protection purposes). When you flip the screen over for a giant tablet, I worry about the keyboard being laid down on it's belly with no protection from dust or spills! End result, great laptop, on sale at around $900.00, beautiful picture, nice sound, but it does have it's flaws!

    I just ordered mine. I am replacing my Desktop of 7 years, I do photography. It is great because the size of the screen , and I was excited I could bump up the RAM . I am really excited. The screen will be amazing for working remotely, and proofing with clients.
    I am super Excited

    Yeah ppl will say it's too big to be a tablet, but it's more of an aio, and tent mode makes it great for some artists or ppl who want an aio. Use it like a desktop at home, but if you have to go somewhere you can have the laptop mode.
    Seems awesome to me

      So far I like the product very much. I think it is well worth the price point and quality is great. I only dread ever having to contact Dell for support as their call centre is a joke. I originally ordered this from their website, and after 3.5 weeks of trying to deal with foreign call centres, I cancelled the order and bought mine at Best Buy. The product is awesome.

    such an impressive review!
    I just have an important question
    I need this laptop for drawing, so does it support dell active stylus pen?
    and can you really move easily while in tablet mode? can you hold it with one hand and use the other to work with the screen (even if for a five minute or so)?

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks Adnan! = ) Yes, it supports dells optional active stylus. One hand use would definitely be uncomfortable in tablet mode. It's a big laptop. But on your laptop or using two hands for short periods of time is fine.

    Nice job regarding your description of the keyboard. Most reviewers seem to think it is verboten to describe the experience of pressing a key. Who knows, maybe manufacturers have pressured them to keep quiet. But from a health standpoint we do need to know about whether the key hits bottom softly or with a clack and the extent to which keys are clicky and how far these keys travel. Thanks for the effort.

    I am looking at this... I have a HP 17.3 AMD A8-7410 with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics which is slow to load up. I utilize Adobe creative cloud o PS, Ai and Pr and for the most part if you stay patient you will get done what is needed but I am tired of being patient for things to load...
    I have researched All in One's with Dell and HP models and from what I gather is core i5 is better than Ryzan 5 and there is not much difference between i5 and i7 which i7 has hyperthreading but I have heard mix reviews on how hyperthreading slows the processors down. I know I will need 16 gigs or better and I can always upgrade components...
    So dell right now has the 7000 model with Intel Iris Xe graphics which I have seen tests that they are exceeding in the market right now above AMD invidia GeForce graphics
    So my question I am asking is do I buy something that is portable or an All in one?
    How well does the touch screen work and can I use a stylus
    Will illustrator work proficiently well on the 7000
    When using as a tablet will videos look great? I am not much of a gamer

    Overall a very nice quick review Matt. I am looking for more SSD info however as I have this laptop but I ordered it without the SSD. Info I was given originally suggested it used a typical 2.5" which I have several but it seems it is instead m.2. I have an m.2 in my desktop and I'd like to order one for this laptop but I would like to make sure the exact option it supports. If you could simply snap a shot of or tell me the model of the Toshiba m.2 that's installed that'd be great. I hope you follow up with your older vids still, thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
    Few weeks ago I suddenly got a Message "Hard Drive not installed" on my Dell Inspiron 17-7000(7778) (i5 processor) series and couldn't access Windows anymore, this was after a lot of years of ongoing screen freeze alongside other issues that I had on 2 same Inspiron laptops since day one and have reported to Dell but unfortunately Dell Customer Service and Support have Failed to Address the Issues tell warranty Expiration not to mention the price (of the two) being students on a budget.
    and then the Hard Drive failure Came,
    Now I would like to try and upgrade to SSD M.2.
    In Setup and Specifications THE ONLY THING I FOUND is that I can Install One-m.2 drive and One-2.5 inch drive.
    Is Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 (1TB) or pro series compatible?, There woulden't be any Bios issues? And is there a limit of storage capacity that my 4-5 Year old Inspiron-17-i5 can handle on both Hard Drives (primary and secondary).
    Thanks.

      It depends what yo uneed it for? The Dell XPS 15 is much better in my opinion. It's faster with a more beefier processor and you get a more powerful dedicated graphics card. Plus, if you get the 4K screen model it's absolutely gorgeous to look at. Both laptops can have their Hard drives replaced.

However, the next day, mouse scrolling issues, immediately started heating up, worst annoyance, the speakers where making static popping sounds regardless of low or high volume. Previous laptops I have used recently have been really slow (I believe they are older laptop models and not very powerful) ... Found your question checking into the SSD upgrade options for my I7778 that arrived earlier today. I feel doubtful it'll support NVMe so I won't use the drive I use in my desktop but I too am looking to confirm 100% what SSD is supported. Since you dropped this query 2 months ago I hope maybe you have some answers you'd be so kind as to share? As for the memory question you'd be best buying a matched pair of 8GB memory but replacing the 4GB with a 8GB of the same speed as what is installed would also work (usually, memory can be a little picky sometimes hence the reason I suggest the match set).

    • @MatthewMoniz

      Type C is the new type of USB port. It's much faster and can also push more power. Which means you can connect a USB Type-C cable to a power adapter and charge your laptop. The adapter will obviously have to support the voltage of the battery. Of course you can just use the standard power cable that comes with the laptop but the option is always there. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask!

      Matthew Moniz Thank you so much for the reply! So the only purpose of the usb type c port on this laptop is to charge the laptop with another adaptor faster?

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  8 лет назад

      You're welcome! No, it's multipurpose. So not only can you charge the laptop, but you can also connect usb type-c peripherals. So external hard drives, mouse, usb type-c sick. It even lets you connect an external monitor.

      Matthew Moniz Wow thats cool! Also another quick question, does you're model automatically turn on the keyboards backlight when you turn the laptop on? If so do you know how to turn off that feature, i cant find it online anywhere.

    • @markd3687
      @markd3687 4 года назад

      @@mrmathboireborn5805 You can turn that on/off in the BIOS. Just hit F2 when the Dell logo is on the screen to get there.

    How hot is too hot for the laptop?

  • @whyisntit

    Wow! This laptop is a beast. I was looking to replace my desktop as well and needed a two in one. I was looking at surface book before but it is just too expensive for me especially the i7 configurations. This is very nicely priced with a really beautiful look. The battery is awesome, face recognition adds to its charm and that big beautiful display would cater all my movie needs.
    The only thing that bothers me slightly is how durable are those hinges because I want to buy this and keep it for at least 4-5 years.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  8 лет назад +1

      The hinges are quite stiff if that helps! = ) But i can't really give you a a better idea since the laptop is only a couple of months old.

    i have it. The problem i have is the battery life. Because 7-8 hours for me is not that good. I expected a better battery life. A laptop this big would make people think the battery will be better like at least 10 or 15 hours

      Yes, the battery should be like in laptops Alineware or Omen 6000-10000mA/h 3500 it is small for 17 inches. 15 inches laptops have twice much more battery

    NO PEN SUPPORT - A SOFT TIP, CAPACITIVE STYLUS is the only thing that will work on this machine. *If you are a digital artist considering this, forget it. No pressure sensitivity, no active nub tip support.* I ordered one, and tested it first hand. I'm taking mine back to the store. World's First 17' convertable laptop, and they leave out pressure pen support.
