I used to love watching these cartoons when I was a kid. Every Sunday after church I would go to my Grandma's house and watch it. I am glad that I was able to find some of the old shows again. That made my day. Thanks for posting this.
I suspect that what we see in this video is the reason why religion is so important to so many people even today. I am not certain that scientific explanations can be as comforting as divine ones to a child; by invoking the idea of a compassionate protector who is inherent in the world's order, the child can rest with a sense that the world is not his enemy. The idea that the world is neither out malevolent nor benevolent may simply be too complex for a child having a scary nightmare.
It's funny how you look back to childhood to things that caused you intense trauma like a bad dream... I have a *"Mr. Owl"* outside my window too btw... lol 🦉
Jot: Mother! It's chasing me! Jot's Mother: Why, it's only a marajuana leave waving in the wind. Sometimes drugs make us see things that aren't there! Jot: Really? Jot's Mother: Really! Jot: Thanks mother! I promise I'll never do drugs again!
When I was about 6, mom let me watch a Godzilla movie. That night I saw the shadows of the trees moving on the blinds of my second story bedroom window. I yelled for mom. She came in and comforted me like Jot's mom. No more Godzilla movies. No more fear from scary movies until I was 13 and watched The Gargoyles the first time it was shown on TV. Now I laugh at it. God takes care of me and protects me.
That scene where the gargoyle reaches up over the foot of the bed is one of the scariest moments in horror movies - and I say this from the viewpoint of the 5-year-old I was when I watched it. haha
This one reminds me of the cupcake one. If you watch the full version they actually show his nightmare just like how he felt guilty about lying to his mother while the words "No Mam" were chasing him in his mind. It was like drugs
@Seleteles Some things can never be wholly explained by science, no matter how much one uses and expounds on the basic facts to the exclusion of all else. Nor is it only children that cry out for something beyond a completely impersonal universe.
I just gotta say it: 50 years later and Jot's screams of "Mother...MOTHER!!" still sent a chill up my spine.....

More like LSD. Jot needs some vitamin B-12 and someone to talk him down.

Later that night, JOT's face was eaten by the man hiding under the bed.
It’s all well to trust in God, but it’s also helpful to talk to your child about their nightmares. There could be more to it.
Sometimes, our imaginations make us see things that aren't there... Like GODS.
