The original version of this episode was longer that what is posted here. I worked on this episode (and three others) in 1980-81. Missing are the credits, and also shots of the program they are watching on TV. Also, they are supposed to be listening for someone honking a horn to pick them up, but they are so engrossed in the TV that they don't hear the horn. That's why the mother is so irritated.
I mean every jot family net episodes were only 2 minutes but the actual ones are longer. I could not find every full episode in English but i did in Spanish
This was around before 1980. We used to watch this on the children’s hour every Sunday in Dallas in the early 70’s. Davy and Goliath came on after Jot.
Equating television with worshipping false idols does make sense; the producers wanted to simplify explaining the First Commandment. The audience for Jot were children. They may not understand actually worshipping false idols of stone, clay, wood, etc or other violations like superstition, fortune telling, talking to the dead, etc. I remember in the 1980s and 1990s, we got warned in sermons and Sunday schools about how video games and computers violated the First Commandment. They even went as far as to name specific brands like Atari, Nintendo, Intellivision, Commodre, etc as false gods being worshipped by children.
So, instead of watching TV, Jot and his pals will pray and sing hymns. Hooray! Nothing weird or creepy at all about that. Perfectly healthy activities for small children.
In the 4 minute version it looked like they didn't watch that much TV. So why is Tat's mother bitching about them? They literally can't take atleast an hour to take a break from praying to god or whatever
frankkumon Yeah, I think the original commandment concerned LITERAL gods. Like the ones in Egypt or Babylon. But in principal, putting people and things in God’s place is a type of idolatry. Still, many who call themselves Christians are guilty of this.
oh I don't like this cartoons but it's a good thing people aren't hating I just wanted to know more of this cartoon but I don't like it since I don't have a religion
I used to watch this when I was little, always looked forward to it. Now I'm showing it to my son.
oh god please dont

It's a shame these are abridged.

Jot haters gonna hate. Jot kicks too much ass. So does God.
Whee. Jot the Christian Dot. When I tell people "about this TV show I remember", they usually think it's the product of a fevered mind...
Does no one else find it amusing that a TV character is being scolded for watching TV?

Next he'll be scolded because his limbs aren't connected to his body.
I don't understand, it seems normal for small children to spend a Saturday eating, playing, and watching their favorite show.
but what if it's a Religious show!

Praising God is innocent and beautiful. Perfectly healthy for small children. Aren't you observant...
what words does it says on 1:19-1:22?

Hmm, didn't know you could disable ratings after you already spam upvoted your own post.
what a ridiculous explanation of the 1st commandment.

It's an excellent explanation.

Zilaxia Xena I don’t have THEIR type of religion. But you gotta admit it’s still better than the garbage they’re trying to sell children these days.
You need Jesus.

Just this show? Remember, ALL television is educational. What is your child learning?
Like the internet does?
