WOW!! There's so much I didn't realize could be done in Scrivener. Some I was like, "I wish Scrivener could do this." Then I watch this video and find out it can. lol. Thanks for the video!!
Great information but I am having trouble following your mouse as to where you are clicking on the bottom of your screen or in corners. Is there a way you can put a circle around the pointer or make it biller or a bolder color? Even when I do full screen, it is difficult for me to follow. Thanks
Michael, thank you so much for your video of Scrivener 3. I must say you have the most precise clarity in your presentation and I am deeply appreciative. Keep making those videos, my friend.
Thank you for your work. I've only recently started working with Scrivener (even started writing a book) and your videos help me save a lot of learning time. Many greetings from Germany
Dude... i had to comment again. I thought about this video as i saw another scrivener feature THAT ROCKS! The ability to change the icon on your files. This way I can see if it is a thought (cloud), something to record, research (magnifying glass) or finished just by glancing at the icons I assign. This is an extreme time saver! I use scrivener for podcasting now.
YAY GOT NEW COMPUTER! GOT SCRIVENER3! MADE IT THROUGH THE TUTORIAL AND AM ON GOING FURTHER WITHIN TUTORIAL. LOVING THIS VIDEO. MICHAEL, YOUR VIDEOS ARE TO THE POINT AND EYE OPENING. A LITTLE FAST FOR ME BUT FORTUNATELY I AM FLUENT IN REPEAT THIS VIDEO AND ALSO 'SLOW IT THE HECK DOWN SOME" FEATURE IN SETTINGS! ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO. THANK YOU, MICHAEL!
Personally loving your background music. It helps my easily distracted brain focus on the video, and I honestly forgot it was there so it’s at just the right level for background sound.
My favorite feature is the distraction-free Composition Mode. When I'm at my desk, Composition is on my laptop screen and the corkboard is on my 2nd screen, reminding me of my direction.
Hello, I am having a problem with Scrivener. After writing my chapters of my novel, I goes for paperback Pdf compile. But after compiling and exporting I find that all the chapters have the same names, except the number. For example my first chapter is, "Chapter 1: Prologue" the name of the 2nd chapter is also, "Chapter 2: Prologue." I cannot change my chapter subtitles. Please help me out 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I just upgraded to 3.0 (finally!) recently and this is where I came first for tips. I knew you would get right to it and present the information well, and you did!! These were SO helpful. My favorite was the secret search function. I have been going nuts looking up words chapter by chapter in S1. Thank you SO much.
I could watch your videos on Scrivener all day. It gets me so hyped to work. Although, It's kind of intimidating to use. It reminds me of when I first learned Photoshop. I'd love to watch you work on a project live on twitch or youtube. Maybe some people with more money than me could supplement your incomes with super-chats.
I am just now trying out Scriveners free trial, I've been kind of on the fence because I've always used Word and Google Docs, but I was getting frustrated because I was constantly losing my focus and my points. Wow, there is so much here, and your video really solidified my new feeling for this program. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Wow, Scrivener has come a long way since I touched the wrong thing and it ate the best chapter I ever wrote! Your presentation is so clear, un-fussy, professional, and totally devoid of "umm... aaaahh..." I subscribed so I can learn more about presentation as well as about Scrivener and levelling up my fiction writing. Thanks!
I've watched many Scrivener -themed tutorials and most of the tips you shared were unknown to me!! Great job compiling and sharing these lesser-known features :D
I would have never found some of these features. Thank you! I'm hoping to get half off for finishing Nanowrimo this year, but Scrivener looks worth the full cost either way. :)
Hi! I loved your video, great content and great presentation. One thing I had a little trouble with sometimes was tracking where your mouse pointer was when you said "click here." Maybe try a larger pointer for the videos? Thanks for offering such great content.
This new version is way better than the old one. I didn't even bother to use the old one.... but a cool feature is that you can sync between computers via the cloud pretty easily. I work in my recliner in the living room and at my desk. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the great videos. I wonder how it works to upgrade to 3 from 1 if you're already writing a story, so that it doesn't mess up what you've already written? Thank you
Hi @Michael La Ronn. I have a question regarding image files for scrivener. I have some title page files for my third book, and i'd like for them to be visible and be added when i compile my manuscript, but so far they don't appear when i compile my book. I know how the book's front cover works, but i'm unsure if adding additional black and white images is even allowed. Can you help?
Wonderful video, thank you... have asked on L+L forum, no joy: do you know how to resize the Scrivener 3 File>Options window? On my laptop I can't access the 'apply' button so can't change the fonts in the binder and on the interface. Or do you know where else I can ask? Many many thanks from a writer with very poor eyesight. Please keep the vids coming!
Hello! Thanks for your video, I did catch some features I didn't know... But I'm still wondering if this Windows version of Scrivener includes a Facing Pages feature in the Composition mode, as in Mac... Can't seem to find that important option. I'd love to see two pages side to side, as I can do in Word. Do you know anything about it, Michael? Greetings from Perú!
5:14 if you're in love with tip #7, I have another tip for you: consider getting a mac. This is an OS level feature on a mac, so all programs on mac have this. It is a feature I wish windows would copy from mac.
I've watched and rewatched most of your Scrivener videos. They are so clear and straight forward. You always say to move ruler over to 0.25 but when I copy/paste from Google Docs my indents aren't consistent. Any way to fix that? If I have to fix in Google Docs first, how many spaces should the indent be?
This has happened to me many times. Try this: copy your text, then in Scrivener, select Edit>Paste and Match Style. This will paste everything and keep it within the parameters you’ve set with the ruler. If this doesn’t work, delete the chapter and create a new one. If you use regular paste it will mess up the formatting so it’s best to start fresh. Hope that works
I even changed the indents in Google Docs, copied and pasted match style. That didn't work. I created a new chap. Ditto. I guess my only option is to manually try and make indents consistent. One of your points was to go Format and make default for project. convert text to default gives you this warning that it can't be changed.@@AuthorLevelUp
Can you talk about it's spell checker. It's my understanding that Scriveners Spell Check (for Windows) left a lot to be desired, because the cost of windows spell check was too much to absorb. Please and thank you.
Question: corkboard threading has one thread for each label, and only one label can be associated with each chapter, right? So your labels have to be focused on one idea? (I wish I could do a version that tracks character POV, then switch up the view & check my thematic focus, etc. It's great that you can use the labels to change the index card colors though!)
A Beginner here 🤚When writing the details in a 'Character Sketch' box, how can I move to the next line below if pressing Enter doesn't work for that purpose? Please help!!!
Thank you very informative! I was wondering, how did you get those gray borders around the page in the editor? (Left & top) I know how to change the background colour of the fixed width to gray but I can't find any option to add borders to the actual page?
Last week I was searching for small caps and discovered the Speech by accident. I screamed with glee because that alone made upgrading worth it for me. Speech is such a cruicial part of my editing process and I always had to transport my work from Scrivener to Word to use Speech. Having it in Scrivener now is a big deal for me. Now I'm just waiting for Scrivener to integrate with editing helpers like Grammarly and ProWriting Aid and the software will be unmatched. BTW, does anyone know where the hell small caps disappeared to???? I can't find it!
Question: Scrivener 3 for Windows appears to have a "Dialogue Focus" option - not "Linguistic Focus." It seems that the Windows 3 version only checks direct speech; not verbs, nouns etc as in the Mac. Is this correct? The video shows a search for Linguistic Focus, presumably on Scrivener Windows 3. But it does not exist on Win 3 where the only option is Dialogue Focus. Did you use the Mac 3 version in part of this presentation?
I'm partially sighted in my right eye, and staring at a white screen with black text causes strain. So, my screen is the reverse; black with white text, but the binder is black, and the background is a dark purple. White text, in my opinion, is easier to read and to spot errors. One of my favourite features is probably the most simple; the toolbar can be added to so I don't need to constantly scroll to the menus. Also, I like the project target function, which I set to 1000 words per day.
Thanks for the great video. It was very helpful. I recently started using Jutoh 3 to write my books because it can convert them into ebooks. The ebook conversion process is painful at times using that program. It's not drag and drop My question is, is exporting your book into epub format using Scrivener a lot easier? Can you insert pictures and move them around onscreen?
Thanks so much for this video ! I've been using Scrivener 3 for a year now but there are some features that I didn't even know existed ! Thanks ! I can't wait to use revision modes for the first time ! (I revised my former novel on Scrivener 1 and I don't recall it existed yet) Would you know by chance if customed themes do work both on mac and windows ? I've seen nice ones but they were made for the mac version, and it seems like it's not compatible with windows version 😢
Document Target did exist in Scrivener 1 (I used it ALL the time for Nano, even still have some leftovers from Nanos years ago) but definitely not in this updated form (if that's what you meant?). Also, I'm not too sure if the change to the Dialogue function is a thing, but I can't seem to make the text fade. Interesting.
I just hit Dark Mode and I'm sticking with it. I'm surprised you didn't close out with the START HERE.doc Scrivener gave us for Windows to read the details on all the features and functions. Do you know if Scrivener has or will get the functionality to save your work to the Cloud?
Hey, do you know of scrivner is updating its UI anytime soon? The app looks like it has great features, but I'm hesitant to buy it because the interface looks so outdated and clunky. Does anyone else feel this way?
My favorite is revisión mode. I had to highlight it myself before and that was a pain. The funny thing is that the speaker in your version is a female voice where as mine is a male voice😂😂. Do you know how to do British spelling in scrivener?
WOW!! There's so much I didn't realize could be done in Scrivener. Some I was like, "I wish Scrivener could do this." Then I watch this video and find out it can. lol. Thanks for the video!!
At 3:15, your inner Mac User came through and you said option key. If anybody’s wondering what’s the equivalent key on windows: it’s the Alt-key 😉
I know, shame on me. The sad part is that it took me at least 5 takes to stop hitting the wrong key on my keyboard when I recorded that. :)
@@AuthorLevelUp man if this gets Ai built in for a future release it will be unstoppable
Thanks I was wondering what that was
Great information but I am having trouble following your mouse as to where you are clicking on the bottom of your screen or in corners. Is there a way you can put a circle around the pointer or make it biller or a bolder color? Even when I do full screen, it is difficult for me to follow. Thanks
That was great. It's easy to get super frustrated with Squivner and get lost. That was interesting and helpful. Thank you so much!
Michael, thank you so much for your video of Scrivener 3. I must say you have the most precise clarity in your presentation and I am deeply appreciative. Keep making those videos, my friend.
Ditto! Subscribed.
Thank you for your work. I've only recently started working with Scrivener (even started writing a book) and your videos help me save a lot of learning time.
Many greetings from Germany
My favorite is the threaded corkboard. It'll be super helpful to me and my multi-character book series.
It's pretty awesome, isn't it?
I just bought Scrivener for Windows and this is my first stop. Could you do an up to date basic Tutorial video for us noobies? Keep up the great work!
Please 🤞🏾 thanks for all your content. It’s been very helpful.
I recommend you use the tutorial that comes with it. You can use the text to speack feature to get through it easier. This is such a great app!
Dude... i had to comment again.
"...like a balled-up sock in a washing machine"!!! That was SO funny! Worth watching the whole video for that one surprise!
THANK YOU, MICHAEL!

oh god...I finally find proper tutorial for scrivener 3 for window... thank you so much
My favorite feature is the distraction-free Composition Mode. When I'm at my desk, Composition is on my laptop screen and the corkboard is on my 2nd screen, reminding me of my direction.

Thanks for the info. I didn't even know the upgrade dropped. I am particularly stoked about he dark theme and the read aloud feature.
I am definitely sold after watching this video. It does a great job of highlighting some of the things that Word and Office just can't do for writers.
Excellent - clear and insightful. My Scrivener experience has been enhanced :)
Yo! The threaded cork board looks really nice! Now, if we had Scrivener on Android, it would be perfect
Interesting idea! I just may do that now that I'm equipped to do better livestreams.
Great Video! Hope to see more from your Scrivener 3/Windows series!
I think my mouth dropped open on a few of them. Thanks for sharing!

Super helpful. I've been playing with Scrivener for the trial period and now I'm ready to buy! I had no idea it could do so many cool things.
Very helpful overview, thank you 😊
I just realized that this comment section has the most grammatically correct commenters. That's awesome.
I've watched many Scrivener -themed tutorials and most of the tips you shared were unknown to me!! Great job compiling and sharing these lesser-known features :D
Fabulous! Thanks, Michael!
Great video, Michael, thanks for explaining it so expertly.

Hi, can you use this app to dictate instead of typing?
Not yet. But hopefully on the future.
Thank you for helpful, no nonsense, clearly explained tips and recs. You are saving countless hours for many, many people.
What's the option key on a windows keyboard?
On windows, it’s the Alt key.
This is great. I hadn't gotten to most of these features, so your video helped me focus in on the ones that'll be most useful to me right now.
Thanks a lot for your great overview!
Hi! I loved your video, great content and great presentation. One thing I had a little trouble with sometimes was tracking where your mouse pointer was when you said "click here." Maybe try a larger pointer for the videos? Thanks for offering such great content.
Love the changes being made to the channel! I think tutorials and writing advice is the way to growth. Been a long time fan
Great tips! I have the old version and now time to upgrade after watching your clip. Thanks.
I would like to know if it corrects spelling in other languages. I'm writing in Portuguese and this is my first day using this software...
I noticed when I work thru Scrivener on my laptop and then later on my desktop, my target count doesn't match. What am I doing wrong?
Suggestion use a pointer highlighter like a yellow circle around pointer because it's difficult picking up the position of your pointer.
Thank you so much. I believe I implemented a solid fix for this moving forward. Just did it tonight.
Thank you so much for this!
Even with one pov, threaded board could help keep track of multiple moving parts whether they be armies, characters, or forces of nature
Good point. Multiple POVs is the best way to explain the concept I have found but I agree--there are many uses for it.
Yes!!!
Yes! I use it to show myself what "off-screen" things are happening. It's just to keep myself on track.
Hi Michael!
Great Work! Can you also make a video on How to Format and Compile in Scrivener 3 Windows as it has changed quite a bit!

can you sync between a Windows Desktop Computer and a Windows Laptop? They both have Windows 10 OS.
Will you be doing a full Scrivener 3 for Windows review?
3:30 Good update. "Hold the option key" in Windows? ;)
The ALT key
Thank you.
Thank you very informative! I was wondering, how did you get those gray borders around the page in the editor? (Left & top) I know how to change the background colour of the fixed width to gray but I can't find any option to add borders to the actual page?
A search of the menus themselves is genius. All apps should have that!
looks great. i should upgrade but im afraid of breaking my current novel so ill probably do it after I finished
Does this version allow the different colors for POVs and when typing in full screen mode can you add a background?
Great video. Thanks.

ProWritingAid has an integration for Scrivener already-in the paid plans.
Very good Michael, thanks. RoyT

The video shows a search for Linguistic Focus, presumably on Scrivener Windows 3. But it does not exist on Win 3 where the only option is Dialogue Focus. Did you use the Mac 3 version in part of this presentation?
Thanks for the update! Do you know much about Scrivener integration with Latex and whether this is possible/viable? Cheers!
Sorry, I am not well versed in Latex.

Will my progress in the 30-day free trial be translated into the paid version when I buy it?
Curious if anyone has converted to Windows 11. If so any problems with Scrivener? I have been holding off of the conversion to 11.
I paid and ordered Scrivener 3 for windows and for some reason it wont let me download can you help?
Thanks for the great video. It was very helpful. I recently started using Jutoh 3 to write my books because it can convert them into ebooks. The ebook conversion process is painful at times using that program. It's not drag and drop
My question is, is exporting your book into epub format using Scrivener a lot easier? Can you insert pictures and move them around onscreen?
Thanks so much for this video ! I've been using Scrivener 3 for a year now but there are some features that I didn't even know existed ! Thanks !
I can't wait to use revision modes for the first time ! (I revised my former novel on Scrivener 1 and I don't recall it existed yet)
Would you know by chance if customed themes do work both on mac and windows ? I've seen nice ones but they were made for the mac version, and it seems like it's not compatible with windows version 😢

If I recall, for Mac "DO NOT use the TAB Key. Is this still a thing for Windows???
How the heck do you get a header on each page in scrivener? Better yet, I'd like one header on odd pages and one on even pages.
I just hit Dark Mode and I'm sticking with it. I'm surprised you didn't close out with the START HERE.doc Scrivener gave us for Windows to read the details on all the features and functions. Do you know if Scrivener has or will get the functionality to save your work to the Cloud?

No idea when an update is in the cards unfortunately.
Question-do you worry about others stealing your story, whether or not it is in Scrivener or a cloud service?
Not at all.
Thanks man!
For someone who is new to using scrivener do you think version 3 is easier to use than 2? Love your videos btw thanks!
Thank You!
Could you review Autocrit? I'd love to hear your opinion.
My favorite is revisión mode. I had to highlight it myself before and that was a pain. The funny thing is that the speaker in your version is a female voice where as mine is a male voice😂😂.
Do you know how to do British spelling in scrivener?
