  • Getting close to the last few remaining episodes of Project Iona. In part 13 we remove the glass sunroof, terrible brown sunshade, interior light cluster, and "A" pillars in Project Iona and replace them all with a matching grey interior of a recycled S500. I share some tips and tricks getting the damaged sunshade out of most W140s and get to the cause for most ruined sunshade and headliners...and the W140Restorations Garage Refrigerator big reveal.

Wow, I’ve never seen a overhead dome light be handled like that without crumbling into a dozen pieces… I have a number of them now. Every time I find a W140/C140 at the junkyard, I pull ‘em off. My shop is in Temple Terrace. If you’re ever in the area, hit me up. There’s a W140 club out here.

You’re right. They crumble fast and can be as delicate as hard vacuum lines. I was lucky to source these from a recycled W140 from a nearby yard. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Hit me up if there is a local W140 event. I’ll bring Iona and maybe Betty as well….

You sir, are a true man among men. The cloth came off of my '99 S320 about 6 years ago, and I recently found a local ( Denver) 1st gen Polish guy returning the 'Ol Beast to its former glory. He has that "No problem' attitude and, like you, is fearless in tackling the things even the Stealerships won't do. Thank You, Sir! In what part of the country are you located? - I am subscribing, and I hope the local W 140 owners know and appreciate you!

How much does this process differ for early ones with the steel panel?

Thanks for watching and great question. I recall the Gen 1 or pre facelift version “roof plate” is considerably different and requires it to come out in a left to right direction with some body trim tools. Don’t hold me to it, it’s been a while since I’ve been in anything before 1996. Now that I think of it. I think there were two generations of roof plates before 1996 and the facelift models.

Hey Ryan I am absolutely flattered by the offer and appreciate the consideration for getting your W140 restored. I have to decline though and although it pains me to say no, I can’t in good conscience say yes. Hopefully soon I’ll have a straight six 320 to work on to share some tips and tricks for your ride. Happy miles and straight roads. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel.
