We are all crying right there with you man, I've heard this song hundreds of times in the last decade, and I promise you, I've cried every single time. It never gets easier to listen to, it's the most haunting yet beautiful piece of music I've ever heard
The first time I heard this song, I was driving around right after I bought the album. As soon as I heard Jimmy's voice in this song, I had to pull over to cry. It was surreal hearing the voice of my biggest idol in a new song after his death
It definitely sounds like the skeleton of a Pinkly Smooth song. I wonder if Jimmy and Brian would have made another Pinkly Smooth album eventually had Jimmy not passed away. Jimmy was sneaking in some more Pinkly Smooth-esque stuff into the A7X songs he was writing towards the end.
Your reactions are so genuine. Love your videos! So Far Away next please! Lyrically it beautifully ties in with Fiction. PLEASE focus on the lyrics once you react to it!
I had just lost a really close friend to cancer about a year and a half before this album came out. When I tell you this album had me messed up, I mean it had me all the messed up. Between Fiction, Save Me, and So Far Away, I couldn’t stop the tears. Also, the Nightmare music video when it shows Jimmy’s drum set at the end got to me a good bit, too.
*No more breath inside, essence left my heart tonight.* One of the very best lyrics from this band ever and the way Shadows belts it out gives me chills every time I hear it.
10:19 don't be sorry. I was crying too. I find seeing a music reacter emotionally reacting to the song validating. Because as a 31 year old man I still get overwhelmed by emotion while listening to music and I shed a few tears. This song is one of those songs that I can only listen to maybe once a year. Daddy by Korn is another one. Black by Pearl Jam too.
13 years later this still makes more cry! I’m glad their new music still has some REV in it!! He was a genius and is so missed!! I want this song to play at my funeral.
Whew! That's a damn good list. I don't know why set me free was on the diamonds in the rough. The vocals in that one is just breathtaking. These are all some of my faves too. Life is but a dream is awesome too
Dude, every time this song comes on in the car, I think I'm gonna be okay, I'm not gonna cry when it plays Ill be fine, and then the first line hits "Now I think I understand how this world can overcome a man" and I lose it. Every time, it never gets easier. Its insane. Such a beautiful song.
Every time I hear this song I sob it kills me to think of all the people in the orchestra the choir and the band just sitting around sobbing making this song, seeing the choir sing this song and break down in between takes to cry kills my soul every time, I hope king rests peacefully and easy ❤😢
Powerful song and deep lyrics. No doubt, music can sometimes have it's way of drawing out strong emotional responses. Thank you for sharing the reaction Alan!
I know I’m a couple months late to this, but I wanted to share something about this song that’s kind of a core memory for me. I saw them live for the first time just over a year after The Rev had passed, which was in January of 2011. A little bummed I never got to see them while he was still with us, but there’s something to this story. We had quite a few “live debuts” that night. The first being them introducing their new drummer at the time, Arin. The second, they played “Danger Line” for the first time live. And then the biggest of them all…they played “Fiction” live for the first time. Could hear some people mumbling amongst themselves about the mysterious piano in the middle of the stage up until the spotlight shone down on it and that intro began to play. Honestly…from my memory, it sounded like it was a struggle. But the whole crowd sung along, and especially when it was just Jimmy’s parts. It was just Shadows, a piano, and Arin playing drums on stage. I don’t think anybody anticipated that. I certainly remember being emotional that night, you don’t hear “So Far Away” AND “Fiction” in the same night live and not feel something. Was almost like the day I woke up and heard the news again. Anyway…that is a concert I will not soon forget. Excellent set, cool opener (Stone Sour). Saw them again at a festival in 2014, but they didn’t play it then.
That 9:05 .. I knew u will getting breaks, after heard Rev's voice (before Shadows turn), because we felt the same way too. Come in 2024 with a group hug for you brother. Thank you for being a sensitive listerner
Seeing your reaction to both this and Save Me, made me think it was a good thing you did seperate reactions and not an album listen, those two songs after each other to finish the record, are quite the emotional ride.
Very happy to see you react to this song. This video was a wonderful opportunity for us all to share that same group of feelings that the rev was communicating with his music, feelings I'm sure most are familiar with from experience. Fiction truly is a beautiful and remarkable track. I hope to see you react to some of the B sides that are on the Diamonds in the Rough album. Some of the lyrics can be kind of cheesy but A7x 100% gets a pass considering how complex and well-written the songs are. The drums on Demons are like the epitome of what everyone loves about avenged
Ever had the death of someone you’d never know just bug the fuck out of you? That’s the rev for me. One of those things you wish you had control over in the moment.
I always loved the female part in this in the bridge, im gutted you didn't isolate that bit. One of my favourites off the album and so so haunting and sad.
@@dicodec oh cool I'll have a look, I think it's m shadows harmonising with her as well, it's such a beautiful part to the song. Thanks for covering this song! could you do tonight the world dies? such an under rated song.
Jimmy had passed before the band got in the studio to properly record the album. It was all demos. Matt or Brian have said that they couldn't use nearly any of Jimmy's demo vocals. But they made it work for this song.
I've seen this song live once and I'll never forget that experience. It's right up there with the first time I seen So Far Away live in 2010. I felt I was the only one at the concert there and it was just me and my emotions for the whole song. I've seen this band 6 times and it never gets old
That whole album was fueled by Jimmy's pain in himself as well as what the others felt in the aftermath. So many reasons why this song is so traumatic and sad.
I watched your journey listening to A7X… Please have a listen to one of their best song Buried Alive! Matt Shadows once said it was his favorite Avenged song and it’s like their Stairway to heaven. Have a listen, please
Thanks for doing this song! Another suggestion (one that's not sad) would be "The Fight." It is off the Diamonds in the Rough album. If you want another sad song though, listen to 4:00 AM by A7X.
Lived through a lot of music 80's metal 90's grunge this has got to be one of the best songs ever sung the lyrics n music touch the inter most parts the emotion is raw n real...
i'm really happy i subscribed to your channel. you give technique and emotion in the perfect proportion, i actually really do wanna hear what you have to say. we all feel this song with you. thank you.
It's strange how those of us who have had and played music as a part of our lives for a long time can just feel music and how it can make us feel so many different things. My best friend loves to blare death metal and things that are borderline insane and he can't understand why his wife and I ask him to turn it down because it starts to makes us tense and anxious and like frantic.
Still doesn't feel real after all these years, love ya to death Brooks, but fuck! Try not to listen to this track too often, came up tonight. RIP Jimmy, he knew it was his time. Missed foREVer!!!!!!
Apparently Jimmy was born with an enlarged heart, and it got more painful for him as the years went on. I guess he just couldn't take it anymore. It's a little poetic.
The crazy thing about Jimmy's vocals in this is that is was purely from a demo tape, i remember shadows saying a lot of the vocal takes were unfortunately too off the cuff or didn't make sense enough to be used in the final take. Despite this, some of the jimmys parts are bone chillingly beautiful which showed just how much raw talent that man possessed

Thank you for this video. You're doing a great job. I would really appreciate you reacting to many many more avenged sevenfold songs.😊
So Far Away makes me cry more often than not. This one hits home hard too. It's a bit more hopeful and sounds like making peace with everything.

add Save Me to that 😭
yup totally forgot to include that masterpiece @@blackenedsymphony1234 😭
Last part of this song always give me goosebumps
Someone had probably already mentioned this, but Brian had said this was actually an unfinished Pinkly Smooth demo - I think it really shows
It definitely sounds like the skeleton of a Pinkly Smooth song. I wonder if Jimmy and Brian would have made another Pinkly Smooth album eventually had Jimmy not passed away. Jimmy was sneaking in some more Pinkly Smooth-esque stuff into the A7X songs he was writing towards the end.

I won't see you tonight part 1 is their saddest song in my opinion, never fails to hit deep
that's a beautiful one, definetely one of my all time favs
Ah man, I love Victim too
Some other songs to react :
-I won't see you tonight part 1
-Buried Alive

As a drummer, it wrecked me having my favorite drummer of all time pass away so young. This song broke me into a million pieces. Still does. FoREVer.

What a dream that would be!!!
Been trying to get someone to react to the Rev's band Pinkly Smooth. Not many seem to know about it except a few diehard Rev fans
Make me Remember back then when I have Nightmare album and always write word 'foREVer' to show my tribute to him
Huh
@@cadenmac6998I get it. Fo(Rev) er
It has Rev in the middle of it.
@@michellesnightmare yea I know but there is like no context

I honestly missed that, I read it in the notes and was wondering. I have it over on discord if you want the isolated track.

Apparently the Rev knew he wasn’t going to be around much longer. 🖤💙🖤
This song always hits me hard. avenged sevenfold was my favorite band growing up and the rev passed on my birthday I was 14
dont cry plz bro i dont want to see ur tears plz
For me, the saddest song is Victim, cause it's sooooo deep that they even hate the song
Victim is like Fiction but written from other guys' perspective
@@syntezjaofficial4240 exactly, that's what makes it even sadder. They had to tell anyone how painful that situation was for them
