@@justdave9610 aka every modern rapper or modern pop singer old rap was amazing and 80s pop was too because they could actually sing and rap and the lyrics were meaningful for the most part
The Rev actually wrote almost all of this song in 2008 before he died. The song is meant to be about a lost soul and a depressed person trying to make it by. The band changed some lyrics up and moved the chorus (which was originally “tonight we all die young”). They recently released the demo version (Shadows and the Rev both singing). It really sucks not many people know this, because this is one of the Revs greatest songs.
@@SteveOGRock If you do end up checking out “The Stage” by them it’s a MUST to have it paired up with the music video regardless if you actually show it to us on screen. The song and visuals together make for quite a show that you won’t regret experiencing.
@@spoodermanxxmlgxx For sure, normally I'm not a huge fan of music videos anymore, but that video is so great and actually thought-provoking without being preachy and it does fit the song really well, perfectly paced to the dynamic shifts in the music. And yeah the song itself is amazing too haha
Well there is their song „lost“ that is so clearly surrounded for artistic reasons that no one will ever be able to deny it 😅 Also it’s not a bad thing they use autotune. If you don’t clean up your vocals in productions, it’ll sound messy. Common practice since decades. Not a bad thing at all.
Honestly, I feel like every band uses at least some sort of pitch correction or slight auto tune, like at 1% mix. But it’s mostly to polish up the vocals for the song. Which makes sense.
Since you are a musician I recommend to listen to "The Stage" or " A little piece of heaven" by them. Both songs are so well layered and the musicianship is really amazing!
As someone mentioned, this song is a tribute to their late drummer who died during the making of this album - they'd been friends since childhood. The whispered vocals ('skull' 'they all know', etc) were actually the drummer's voice that was already recorded. I love this song, but it's a little all over the place, lol. It's definitely self-indulgent (especially on the album) but it's a hell of a song to experience live with how they break it down into pieces and involve the fans. Hearing an entire venue singing "tonight we all die young" over and over with the lights low will make your hair stand on end. I've been a huge fan for a long time, but if there's one thing that's always driven me nuts it's the nasal vocals, god they used to be so much worse 🤦🏼♀️ Thankfully they've improved since then. Side note: Their lead guitarist is classically trained and it Really really shows in this one, lol
It fucking needed to be 11 minutes. It’s awesome and no part of that song is boring it’s amazing. Also yeah they playing download fest this year, it’s gonna be so cool.
Funny you say it could be shorter, my son introduced me to this song, because of its length it took me a few listens to get in to, but now it's my favourite song of all time and goes by in a flash, i listen to it very regularly
matt's voice is the first reason i like a7x back in highschool. i have listened yo dozens of metal bands, but i don't like their vocals as much as i like matt's vocal. i think i have different taste than most of peoples.
This song underrated in nightmare Album. But, every morning, i play this song. The song is Beautiful. Many harmonies in this song. Maybe Next, You should react to Hail to the king, Buried Alive, Or afterlife from Avenged Sevenfold
This song was actually written after the record was finished because their drummer passed away before they released the record, hence why it is and epic and is so long. Basically a tribute to the rev
Everyone has their opinion/taste. Matt's voice ain't my favourite but I still love it, the auto tune/layering they sometimes use just enhances it. And yes Syn does love that whammy bar lol.
Mike Portnoy did a great job recording the drums on this one. Gotta keep in mind this album got a good couple years on its neck by now as well. Great reaction!
It may very well be that they didn’t use auto-tune, that’s just what it sounded like to my ears. It may be just lots of vocal layers that gives it that particular smoothed vibration effect… but if so it sounds very very similar to the sound you’d get from a chunk of auto-tune being applied… which is not a sound I personally dig. Most bands do use a bit of auto tune these days, and it can be done quite subtlety which I don’t mind.
@@SteveOGRock I can guarantee you there isn't auto-tune on this track. Very surprised you actually thought you heard some specially coming from a musician.

Okay, as someone has already mentioned they have a masterpiece called “A little piece of Heaven,” it is a song about necrophilia, but another reactor you probably know “Rebeca Vocal athlete,” said its like Bohemian Rhapsody on drugs. Lol 😂
Love the reaction,! As a musician, it’s nice to hear some more technical analysis! They’ve evolved SO much, since Nightmare, so I’d love to hear your reaction to “The Stage” but especially something from their newest album: “Life Is But A Dream”.
So I won't say there's no autotune, because I simply don't know. But where you said there's auto tune on it, what your actually hearing is 3 or 4 vocal tracks harmonizing together. They do that a ton. But also to critique your reaction, wasn't a fan. Now yes, I am a huge a7x fan. But, you almost had an attitude of, "yea you guys are great, but you don't need to be doin all that shredding". Personally I feel every part was perfectly displayed and tasteful. Also, this was the final track of the album, and the song was meant to symbolize the whirlwind of emotion from the death of their drummer/best friend. Just simply couldn't be done in a 6 minute song. That being said, thank you for doing this reaction.
Thanks for the feedback Thomas. In fairness, I didn’t have any context about the reason behind the song before reacting to it. But also, this ultimately comes down to personal taste. I can recognise the musician excellence here for sure, but the overall style of the combinations just doesn’t speak to me the way some other musical choices do. It’s not bad by any means. It’s just not for my taste. Maybe I need to do a bit more signposting in my reactions by highlighting when I’m offering opinion rather than musical analysis. I’ll take that feedback with me. Thanks.
Everybody cracks me up always complaining about it being too long, but then you get a song that’s only 5 or 6 mins long and then everybody is like I didn’t want it to end 😂 can’t please everybody all the time

This song is a tribute to their past drummer and the co-founder of the band, The Rev. Just some side info

Matt once said that most of this song was written by The Rev. Which is sad because in the end the lyrics ended up being about him
