As I always had the impression Hikaru doesn't like Anna in much the same way he doesn't like Botez, I was curious to see how the video would go. Turns out it went exactly as I expected. Doesn't even pretend to hide the fact that he doesn't want to be there.

I see all the comments about Hikaru seeming rude to Anna etc. but if you watch Hikaru in his plays he always carries that same expression and demeanour, he isn’t one to chat a lot or shit talk. He’s just focused. And throughout the game I kept seeing him having that slight smile so you can tell he is enjoying himself (though of course this is not even a challenge to him). And he did occasionally tell Anna which moves are good or not. I don’t think we can expect all GMs to be effervescent. Didn’t feel like Hikaru was treating Anna any differently than others. That said I agree that Anna asking if he was number 2 or 3 was unnecessary and repeating it again at the end. I really don't like the personalities I am seeing at the top ranks in chess, notwithstanding Fabiano and maybe Magnus. I think he just doesn't like being called like a number 2nd or 3rd in the world, but just that he is Hikaru. I mean everyone knows that, so there's no need. Like Anna knows that he is either second or third in the world or something like that, it's not that important truly which, maybe even fourth or fifth, but the point that he is at the very top, that's it, so the question is pointless. I think Hikaru simply has metaphorically speaking less of a mask. Hikaru liked talking about which move was good and not, and he helped Anna, but then she just continued saying to him about being the second or third in the world, you could clearly see that he didn't appreciate this praising in front of everybody from facial reactions, and Anna shouldn't have said it again, just keep it chill simple, talking about the moves or whatever, Anna needs to match the energy sometimes better, when you play someone more chill, you have to also be more chill, Anna, you always have the same energy levels of reactions with all people, so of course you will ran into energy mismatches if you continue like that. Meanwhile, he can't criticize her because she's so far out of his league, it would be the same as if you or me were playing a toddler. And that's why he declined a rematch. I see all the comments about Hikaru seeming rude to Anna etc. but if you watch Hikaru in his plays he always carries that same expression and demeanour, he isn’t one to chat a lot or shit talk. He’s just focused. And throughout the game I kept seeing him having that slight smile so you can tell he is enjoying himself (though of course this is not even a challenge to him). And he did occasionally tell Anna which moves are good or not. I don’t think we can expect all GMs to be effervescent. Didn’t feel like Hikaru was treating Anna any differently than others. That said I agree that Anna asking if he was number 2 or 3 was unnecessary and repeating it again at the end. And maybe Hikaru could have given more feedback to her at the end to help her improve her game in future and recap some moves - but yeah does seem he wasn’t interested on that end
Just because he is annoyed for his own reasons, does not mean that asking a simple question based on facts makes it unnecessary.

I really don't like the personalities I am seeing at the top ranks in chess, notwithstanding Fabiano and maybe Magnus. I mean, I haven't seen any real trash talking by Magnus or mean-spirtedness, but maybe I just don't view enough of his stuff. Seems like a lot of toxicity exists, just like FPS games I avoid now. I think Anna wants to be social in chess and don't get it's not very sociable like she wants it to be, like saying "Good Game" with Fabiano.
