It's not about "who sells", Magnus didn't become a 5-time WC because he sells, he became a WC because he's great.
Neither Hikaru waited for the moment to become one of the best chess players in the world to become adversarial and kind of a dick sometimes.

I'm just saying that chess wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is today if the top players were all like Caruana, and that the players who contributed the most to chess becoming popular (Gotham for example) did so because they are able to sell the game due to being entertaining, and not solely because of their chess skills.

Yeah. Danya (Daniel Naroditsky) did something similar when he played the Botez sisters and Dina Belenkaya simultaneously . He beat the Botez sisters but was losing against Dina in what looked like a slam dunk. But he gave Dina fits in the endgame and ultimately wound up getting a draw. Because he was a gentleman, otherwise he could have won on time as Dina still needed a lot of accurate moves to get the win.

Fabi was about to say: "it was a draw"...so, he threw the rook in there, to make things interesting, and let Anna play-on...of course Fabi likes Anna...don't we all? - doing the Cow opening just to make Anna a little more receptive...come on. someone likes Anna.
