    Hey Richie I have a question, I have an evh 5150 iii 100 watt and the footswitch is a 7 pin connector, do you know of anyway to be able to switch channels with it via midi with that type of cable? I really want to get the podhd500 for effects but I'm not sure it will be able to switch me channels as well, thank you!

    Hi, thank you so much for this!
    Is there anywhere I can see a diagram or find more info on how everything is connected?
    I am interested in doing this with the HD500X and a Fender Deville 212. Is it a midi cable from pod to voodoo, then standard 1/4 from voodoo to amp? I note you had more than one cable going into the amp in this video. The Fender has a single footswitch connector, two guitar inputs and an fx loop.
    Would be very grateful for your help on this.

    Awesome stuff guys. Can you set the HD500 to give you get delay spillover between presets? For example going from a lush high gain lead sound with delay to a bone dry in your face metal rhythm, can you set it up so that the delay in the lead sound naturally decays away when you switch to the rhythm sound?

    Hey man, I have a carvin V3m which has a 5 pin input on the back for the footswitch but it doesn't support MIDI, it also only has 1 /4 input for another footswitch. Will the Control Switcher support switching with a HD500x for my V3m? I've seen a schematic using a 5 pin MIDI cable with all 5 pins connected (usually a 5 pin MIDI cable commonly has 3 pins connected) from the back of Control Switcher into the 5 pin connection on the back of the amp, but I'm curious as to if this will actually work before I go spending my money. Hope this makes sense

    This is definitely an interesting option BUT with this you lose things such as the tuner mute, fx, reverb and solo options. The RJM unit offers this capability along with the added cost of the unit plus specialized cable. That said most folks probably wont miss those options but i wonder in your case do you? Im leaning to this unit myself bc for my RK2 head, i dont really need those options given that I will have a reverb unit etc and rarely need the solo. But I wonder do you wish you had that? Just curious.

    Any way to use this with two amps simultaneously? i do have and aby switch. I'm thinking to set one preset two a clean channel in one amp. another preset to be the dirty channel in both amps.

    • @RichieCastellano
      @RichieCastellano  8 лет назад

      +drumtarist Yes, but this depends on what you want to do. The simplest way would be to reserve the first 2 relays on the control switcher for amp A and the second 2 relays for amp B. Then you program whatever. However, if you need more than 2 switches per amp, it gets complicated. You can use 1/4 inch splitters on the relays, but that's a messy setup and it may not work the way you want. I'm not saying it won't work, but it'll require experimentation. The craziest most detailed way to get 4 switches per amp is to get a MIDI splitter and 2 control switcher boxes. That'll do whatever you want. But that's also bananas.

I'm pulling my hair out trying to understand this. What I want to do is use the instant commands to work with snaphots; i.e., when I change snapshots, I change amp channels. Hey Richie, I have an EVH 5150 50w head with midi on the rear and a POD xt live that I use strictly for fx. I run it in front of the amp and bypass all amp models on the pod. I am tired of doing the dance to switch channels. I use 3 presets on the pod, 2 clean sounds with various fx (Ch1 on 5150) and 1 for my gain (Ch3 on 5150) using fx too. How would I obtain midi to switch the channels on my amp when changing the pod presets?

    • @RichieCastellano
      @RichieCastellano  8 лет назад +1

      +sean kennedy If I'm not mistaken, the 5150 50 watt head already has MIDI channel switching. It's pretty easy. Connect a MIDI cable from the pod's MIDI out into the amp's MIDI in. Then I think you have to put the amp into MIDI learning mode. This is from the manual:
      1. Press both channel SELECT buttons {E and I} simultaneously to
      enter MIDI "Learning Mode." The current amp channel LED will
      start to blink.
      2. Send any desired Program Change message on any desired
      channel from your MIDI controller to the amp. The amp channel
      1 LED will start to blink unless you have previously assigned
      that Program Change message to a different amp channel, in
      which case the previously assigned channel LED will start to
      blink.
      3. Select the target amp channel (1, 2 or 3) using the channel
      SELECT buttons {E or I}. All three amp channel LEDs will briefly
      illuminate to indicate if the amp channel assignment has been
      changed for the Program Change message sent (if the amp
      channel assignment has not changed, which would be the case when assigning amp channel 1 to a Program Change message
      for the very first time, the three amp channel LEDs will not all
      illuminate briefly because the amp channel assignment .
      So with this setup you should be able to tell the amp which channels it should be on depending on which pod preset you use. It's pretty nifty!

      Not 100% certain, but I believe you can. The GT has MIDI out and the Triaxis has MIDI in so it should just be a matter of figuring out whether the Triaxis will jut respond to the GT's program changes or if the GT needs to send out specific MIDI commands to the Triaxis. • @Becker85
    @Becker85 8 лет назад

    Hi Richie, great explanation!
    Got one question.
    I have a 2 channel amp with no MIDI. I'm getting a TC Nova System to connect through the effects loop of my amp, and I want to use my amp's distortion from the drive channel. However, I will always have the drive channel set for a hi gain distortion, so this leaves me with no "mild overdrive" or crunch sound setting. So I was thinking of getting a drive pedal with MIDI input (such as TC Nova Drive or Soundblox Pro Multiwave Distortion), that would go straight into my amp's input. The main idea here is to avoid dancing on footswitches, so the question is: will my Nova System be able to control both the drive pedal and a MIDI switcher for my amp?
    The Nova System MIDI interface is one set of IN-OUT-THRU, and the MIDI switcher I would use is the Nux Pms2, which has got MIDI IN and THRU.
    It would go like this: Guitar>Drive Pedal>Amp Input>Nova System (fx loop) and the MIDI stuff like this: Nova System MIDI OUT> Nux Pms2 MIDI Switcher IN and also Nux Pms2 MIDI Switcher THRU>Drive Pedal MIDI IN
    I hope i didn't mess up with my English (I'm from Argentina). If you answer this it would mean a lot. Thanks in advance!!
