Marrying someone who is already a parent is a raw deal, whether it's a man or a woman. Unless the kids are grown, no arrears on child support, and the adult children don't need any help. Otherwise it's too much drama and a money pit
@@DarthFurie don't forget the emotional stakes. You get attached, sometimes raise them as your own for decades, in the end you still don't know if they're going to be there for you as your own would, or if you split up with their mom or dad. And you have zero rights in that case.
Tbh, i worked as a cleaner in a nursing home years ago and let me tell u, biological children are also not there quite often, so kids being “yours” is also no guarantee

Go to the local prothonotary office and request the court file from her case and look over that to see why she does not have custody or visitations. You have to be very bad parent to not have visitations of your own child. My son's mom got a sucker to pay for her a lawyer in our case by making out that I was the bad guy. She now has no rights or visitations to the child over all the emotional and psychological abuse that she put the child thru along with faking medical emergency to try to keep me from my visit when she had him. Go check out the court file since it is public information and see what the judge put as why she doesn't get visits at minimum

Dave's advice is so dead on about not giving money or contributing financially to someone you aren't married to. In a situation with my girlfriend right now where I only have my mortgage and she has credit card debt and a student loan. She's on the right path and doing all the right things to pay it all down including a side hustle strictly for paying debt, I'm proud of her. We've been transparent about our finances and the day we take those vows and it becomes our debt I will 100% help her with it. Like Dave said until then, all I can do is be a cheerleader and a crying shoulder.
It works the other way around too. A decade ago, my ex and I dated for a few years. During that time, when I got out of college, I had student loans and I specifically agreed to her that she will not help me pay for it, even when she offered.
Just make sure not to tell her once you guys are married that you'll pay other debt off completely. She might just be waiting to cash her ticket in

Dude…you are an enabler. We adopted our grandson and went through this for 2 1/2 years. She is a MESS! Like our daughter was. The courts never give a Dad full custody, unless she has MAJOR problems.
He's itching to take on the role of noble savior for this single mom. There's probably a good reason she was not granted custody. A reason that should make him reconsider "spending the rest of his life with her".

As a woman, I question why the mother does not have custody of her kid. More often than not, the wife is awarded custody of the kid and the father pays child support. I know a woman who lost custody of her kid because she was an alcoholic. This guy is blinded by her beauty like many men.

She’s in a bad situation with her baby daddy, and this guy is the emotional tampon to keep her mind off of it. Don’t save her, she don’t wanna be saved. Matter of fact, she’s gonna resent him for sticking by her thru her worst.

I can speak from personal experience and mirror Dave’s advice on not contributing financially to a girlfriend. Aside from dinner dates, occasional (reasonable) gifts, etc. like he said, I’ve always regretted it. It’s never worth it. Don’t learn the hard way like I did! Never again.
If a mother loses custody/ visitation with her children she’s a very big mess. This only happens in extreme situations where the mother is involved is drugs or severe mental illness.
I love dave's advice, he always brings it back to appropriate boundaries
The courts grant primary custody of the children to the mother by default, and it's only the other way around when the mother is so wildly messed up that it forces the court to consider the child's interest. This is a huge red flag: I want to know What that issue is and if it's something she has corrected (i.e. drug or alcohol addict)

I have full custody of my kids. The only way a man can get full custody is either child neglect, abuse, or drugs. My ex-wife was arrested for child neglect and lost custody of all her kids. She calls me a narcissist and controlling. It's a blanket name call because she LOST.

I did it for four years to someone that wasn’t married to know we are separated and it hurts me like crazy to know that I was four years on someone who was attached to someone else
I would also add that the caller should be very careful about having the girlfriend helping with his house renovations just in case she gets some sort of feeling of entitlement to it. This is because it may then come up in any argument such as "you owe me this and that". Let her resolve her custody problem and he should rennovate his house by himself and move in by himself and see how things play out.

I wonder if this guy even knows how, when, why the custody battle got started. He chose his words very carefully when he called the ex "controlling". Unless the ex has a million dollar lawyer controlling all this the court would not rule against a mother for no visitation - not even supervised? How old is the child? How long has she been fighting this? How long has Dexter been dating her? Ever since she got out of rehab? Or prison? (just speculating). Talking about being with this woman "for life" but he's probably not even met the child who becomes his for life too! He's letting infatuation get in the way of clear thinking about the long term.
If the man has full custody, RED FLAG. Either way, do not involve your money here. Its never a good thing.

For a woman to lose complete custody of a child is extremely rare and it means she has many many issues. That doesn't just happen because the other parent is controlling lol.
Never married but I have fallen into that trap. I am part of the 100% that regretted trying to support my ex. Especially after her personality went Jekyll and Hyde on me.

The biggest red flag is the father having custody. Most cases the mother gets custody and only when she is unfit not by little I seen drug addicts have custody over a sober father. So really check what the real deal is before jumping into a marriage
You can hear it in his voice that he is unsure about being with her. If you have to question it then you need to move on. Agree also with everyone else about her not having custody. You are going to burn everything down you worked for because your desires are blinding you from reality.

This only means she has none and she lost custody, which is quite rare for mothers, and can only be the result of something this lady did that wasn't good. or it could be that the father has rich parents or a fancy lawyer in the family. I know of more than one good mother that faced nasty custody battles.

If the pregnancy fat fell in the right places I'm down to date them. Plus they're more mature than the single chicks usually.
There's lots of good single mothers out there, but they are in a completely different world than a single childless man. Sometimes it works plus this advice isn't practical once you get to your late 20s or early 30s since we all got baggage by then. I would certainly advise my son to not be looking for a relationship with a single mom (as long as he's of the age where my advice matters any).
I made this mistake to the tune of about $40k. Lesson learned.

So, I see this from two sides and suggestions (to make one think):
A single woman who cannot see her child. Is she paying childsupport? That's the crux. Also, if she lives in a state of Texas ( they cannot stop the non-custiodal from visiting).
Also, the other side is the custodial parent controlling the ex- through the child? I don't know?
Also, how long have you known her? Dated? Because not only you'll be not involved with her but with the ex- all their past drama. Tread very lightly.

Let’s not only focus on the financial part. If you get married to her, you now have to deal with a potentially dangerous situation involving her child’s father. I don’t think that is an issue I want to take on. I understand people feel mobile for doing that, but you are not obligated to do anything until you say I do. Also, not to be rude but it is extremely rare for the father to have sole custody of a child. The mother not having custody is concerning!
