      Went and visited my bud in Ireland 2 months ago - very cool. Dublin is def a large city - but gives perspective as to why their drinks are so important to Ireland's fabric. I thought it was going to be like the stereotypical Aussie beer (Fosters) that nobody there actually drinks, but it's not. Irish people do love their Jameson, Tullamore, and Guiness - among others. The drinks tours we took were equally as beneficial as the landscape. For a whisky guy - it's a worthwhile trip.

    I think their concept is genious. I get a feeling, that Jameson does many things right, in sense of marketing, that Gibson guitars does wrong. By now I still had a bit of sympathy for Gibson being in a conflict between being an old brand, with a lot of legacy and very specific expectations, how their products should be, and being a modern brand and still being innovative.
    But apparently, this is how you do it. You keep your original produkt as original as possible and separate your new ideas from that. That way, the experimental stuff can act more freely, being supportet by the big brand, but doesn't compete with it by having the same name.

    • @verigone2677
      @verigone2677 4 года назад +11

      Which is exactly why Fender hasn't had that problem...American Standard is the traditional...everything else is free game. It also doesn't hurt that their top tier, non-custom guitar is cheap enough (Cheaper than the main brand entry level of Gibson or PRS) that modifying it doesn't feel like a sin. JAmeson's volume helps to keep their experimentation affordable to the consumer, mostly a bunch of midling priced batches that represent themselves very well instead of a few massively overpriced and unavailable expressions.

    As a fellow whisk(e)y enthusiast who has been there as well, this video captured everything that distillery stands for. Everybody at Jameson Middleton loves what they do, are extremely knowledgeable about the entire process, and are some of the most friendly people on the planet. We spent 3 hours there, including the small batch "laboratory", and I felt like I still had so much to learn and experience. Bringing the bottle of Distiller's Reserve back home made up for it a bit though.

    Top notch vid! Content and editing excellent! Makes me wish I could trawl through what was left on the cutting floor!
    I'm with Daniel regarding spreadsheets... soooo... 34,000 bottles Angel share a day, assuming 700ml bottles is 23,800 litres lost every day! Call it 24kl/day. The typical Olympic swimming pool is said to be 2.5Ml in volume, so that's about 3.5 Olympic pools worth a year! (Who else just imagined drunk Angels cutting laps? lol)
    The lowest production number I heard was 2300 barrels a day. So assuming 300l barrels (which looks about right based on scaling the images), that's 690,000 litres per day of production. Holy shit! That's a llllllllot of whiskey. That means Angel share is about 3.5% of daily production. TBH, that's less than I thought it was going to be.
    At 690kl/day production, that's about an Olympic pool's worth of whiskey every 3.6 days, or about 101 Olympic pool's worth of whiskey a year! That's simply enormous.
    FWIW, they cover their annual angel share in a little over 12 days... less than two weeks production.

    Ha! That blue painted tool he used to open the barrel near the end, I have one- and now I finally know what it's for! I found mine in a skip a few years ago and have never known what it was for until now, mine is French. Thank you Whiskey Tribe, good channel btw.

    Nice to see IDL being experimental, especially with all the up and coming Irish distillers. Middleton does make some of the best Irish whiskeys and probably the best premium ones.

    If you want to do a good job , get an Irishman , that was a phenomenal tour , I'm a half Irish bastard and I felt a swell of pride at that attitude and responsibilities. Breathtaking . 👍🇬🇧

    As a northern Irish brit plastic paddy (with a bit of Irish and French in my soul) it’s great to know that so many ‘muricans have watched this and seen how Ireland is not a cute little magical forest full of toothless drunks.
    I mean, we have the magical forests (the old part of Killarney forest park for example) and I’ve met a couple of toothless drunks but in the famous words of Alan Partridge: “der’s moore to Oireland Dan Diss”

    I'm leaving to go back to Scotland in a few days but after watching the Scotch Test Dummy's videos and your videos I am wanting to visit Ireland as well. The white hard hats, clear plastic glasses and fluorescent green vests are a great look... you should keep it! Guarantee it, if you wore them all the time some MB's would think it was a new fashion trend... or maybe not.

    Caskmates Stout. Picked up two bottles for $16 ea. Has a profile of a $35 whisky. I see now why it's possible. Scale up, control the process, yet keep the tradition. Thanks for the proxy experience Rex and Dan.

      Here in Ireland the caskmates stout edition is 38 euro. Roughly 45 dollars. 🙄. I picked up a 1 litre bottle in France for cheaper. Ridiculous
