Thanks for breaking down the concept of mixed voice in such detail! It's such a challenging part of singing, but you make it feel more approachable. Really appreciate your tips on letting go of tension-so helpful!
As always, your vids are a huge help! Too many years doing opera for me and thinking everything had to be loud enough to be heard in an amphitheater in 1785 when there were no mics. =]
Love your videos. This voice box is so complicated. I’m working on when we were young by I want to change the key but my guitar teacher plays it just how it’s written. He thinks I sounded great. I think he nuts. You’re right about the head voice. Hey it takes time to build a channel. Do not give up. I’m only getting around to watching it now. I’m in Florida US. We’ve been having hurricanes and no power. It’s nice to see a teacher who has had an operation from really pushing your voice. You can help so many people learn WHAT NOT TO DO. I hurt my voice and understand what you are saying and applying what you are saying. Keep up the good work. Thank you. 🙏❤️🙏🎤🎵
Thanks so much for your message, I really appreciate it and it’s encouraging ! I will keep going. Gosh I hope you and your loved ones are ok over in FL. I took a great deal of interest in those recent hurricanes and floods over in the US . I was watching a lot of reports and stuff on social media too. Absolutely shocking. Only getting worse perhaps too. I hope you are safe and haven’t lost anything during this. Thanks again and I’d have to hear you singing it ! I’m assuming you are female from your YT name - interesting to hear it in the original key! I can always give feedback via my patreon . Thanks for popping up regularly on my videos 😊✌️
@@singingmatterscalder awww. Thank you so much. First, my name is Veronica or nickname Ronnie. Military family and that’s why I started this channel /vlog and how I got the name. My son was a Marine. I wanted to vlog the journey but I made a few videos and I really had nothing positive to say. I just cried. Then it became my iCloud I uploaded family videos. We are alive from the two hurricanes that hit us and that’s all that matters. Some damage. Just a lot of devastation all over. It’s weird. Everything is just off. We are mentally and physically drained. Hey I use to sing great but due to my thyroid. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I slowly lost my voice so I stopped for years. I raised my kids and now I picked up the guitar again. I figured my last chapter in life I will be a rock star. ⭐️ 😁😁😁. I use to perform in New York that’s where I’m originally from. It was a lot of fun back then. I’m trying so hard to get tone back in my voice. Some days I sound like I have laryngitis, but it’s just my disease makes my voice very hoarse. I’m really trying. I’m a fighter. I want some of my voice back. I love music and it’s got me through dark times. Seriously, I suck now at singing. Since I’ve been doing voice exercises and trying hard what my opera teacher taught me years ago there has been some improvement. I really like your videos because I understand what you are saying. You’ve been there and know The control exercises and not having to sing loud is helping me. I’m working on that. When I get that song to where I’m comfortable I would love feedback and hopefully I can take vocal lessons. I do get frustrated because sometimes it sounds okay then I overdo it. Tension in my throat. . That’s my problem. Okay I wrote a novel 😆. Definitely want to work with you. Thank you so much.
I really appreciate your insights and wanted to share some thoughts. Personally, I'm still seeking a precise, scientific definition of "chest voice." I've read that not everyone feels a resonance in their chest, and I wonder if I'm one of them. For me, chest voice tends to involve some strain, which I'd like to learn how to separate from. Or is a little bit of strain normal in chest voice? I'm also under the impression that certain vowel sounds can influence whether we access head or chest voice, especially around the vocal break. For example, vowels like "ee" and "oo" seem to bring out head voice, while "uh," "eh," "ah," or even "ae" (as in "cat") might draw us into chest voice. What are your thoughts on that? I feel like these vowels help me differentiate between the sensation of notes resonating in my face versus my mouth-chest voice feels more in my mouth, while head voice feels more in my face.
@@HawkMcDork wel yeah a lot of what you e said makes sense . As for strain - you’ll have to work out where that’s coming from. So take very close notice to exactly what happens before you start singing a note . As you sing it And after you sing it Watch yourself back on video . Notice every movement in body - neck and throat , there will be something squeezing or tensing or engaging that shouldn’t . Mostly pulling larynx up in throat , and muscles grabbing above larynx . You will feel chest voice in the mouth . Keep it there . As you raise up , the roof of mouth and into nasal cavity and head There’s lots you can do to work some of this stuff out . I have some very reasonable options available for 1-1 feedback and support and lessons Let me know! Links above , no pressure tho, I’m totally happy to help whenever I can on here with my content and hope the vids work too
You are going to feel the most major shift here . It’s the big one. The bridge. It’s where all the trouble lies and the pain 😅and all the balance is required. It could be the 8th bridge It could be the manhattan bridge It’s definitely the one you know about .
Hey, I get this congestion sensation on my nose when I try singing for some minutes, I cant find an answer for it. Its not like you get a flu, is more a tension, but it gets in the way of singing properly. Does anyone know about it?
In my experience this happens when your head voice and mix is underdeveloped. Practising SLS "Nay, Nay, Nay's & "Gee Gee Gee's" helps with this. Getting the voice forward "into the mask" and gradually thinning out into head voice is most likely the solution, imo. Worked amazingly for me anyway.
Yeah these are all good tips . You may be over tensing a part of your face ! Or roof of mouth, over exerting in there. Have a real good watch of what’s going on, every tiny muscle movement as you go to start a note. You may be pushing the sound into the nose also, you can try to resonate on the nasal cavity, from the back! The back of the nasal cavity. Not so much pushed into the nose and also you could be pushing air into there. Try “nnng” as well and imagine the sound going backwards to find the back of Roof of mouth , nasal cavity, and back of head . It will ping out of your mask properly this way too .
Let me know what you think and what you are trying to work out in your voice right now. I hope it helps
