WOOOOOOWWWW! I cannot believe it and cannot thank you enough! After having suffered absolute misery over the past week, with my 159 refusing to start each morning (battery tested to be ok), I went out to the car, removed the negative quick release, cleaned out the terminal and clamp, the checked the positive box to find it was so loose! Cleaned up all the connections, tightened up and my car roared into life. One thing I did notice on my 159 is that the positive clamp actually *cannot* be tightened properly. Either the terminal pin is too small (someone maybe buying the wrong batter to save a couple of quid), or else the positive tightening clamp is such poor build quality that it reaches it's max clamp tightness, before the clamp is actually tight on the terminal. Either way, I fixed the car and know that my permanent fix will be to buy a new battery with the correct (thicker) terminal post. Thanks so much!
Hi Tony, priceless video for us Giulietta owners. Keep them coming mate. All the best. 🇦🇺🇮🇹👍
I had the same on the first motorhome leisure battery, clamp had corroded and needed a bit of cleaning up. Perfect after that.
It’s amazing how many people have had problems in the last 48 hours owing to how damp the weather is. A bit of condensation on the terminals and it all goes wrong 🙄👍
Hi Tony, You´re the answer to my prayers, I have the same problem and check terminals and fix this with your recommendations thanks, I think it s because of the cool in winter, thanks full
Yes, my problem (exactly as in this video) happened when the outside temp dropped quite significantly too.
Hi Tony, I've had a similar persistent problem with a dumper, I think very often after a few battery changes the clamp needs opening to get a decent clamping force on the terminal, just loosen the clamp and either prize the clamp open or "gently" tap it down on the post.
Hi Tony ,had similar problem on my guiliatta , I tightened positive battery terminal and seems ok .
Hey Tony, my cover is missing from the positive terminal, I only realised it’s missing from watching this clip.
On my 2011 2.0 JTDM Stop Start I had a weird hesitation in Normal mode, ABS on/off and steering angle etc. The battery was only 3 years old (EFB YUASA) but only had 11 volts, charging was fine at 14.13. So knackered battery, just out of warranty by 2 weeks. I fitted a brand new AGM Exide unit instead. Better, but still weird problems. Hesitation, OK in Dynamic, odd errors.
Then I removed the battery, the tray it sits in and the metal bracket the tray sits on. I then undid and cleaned all of the earth points, dismantled and cleaned the positive terminal and replaced the 60 amp (yellow) fuse. On reassembly all was 100% fine again.
I think it was the earth strap from the battery to the chassis, but I also cleaned the two fuse box earths on the inner wing, and slapped some dielectric grease on all the earth points. Car is good as gold and running better than it ever did in the 4 years we've owned it.
Hi Tony, if just moving the terminal clamp fixed it, doesn't that suggest something is wrong with the actual clamp and should replace it or at least check all connections? You are a life saver for Alfa owners. Cheers
Hi Paolo. Yep. My terminal is split and I plan to replace it. Will be making a video on that soon.
All the best 👍
Hi Tony hope you are well ,
I have few questions about the cambelt changes of the Alfa n after how may Miles/kilometers it should be done , also how to check the condition of it ?
Mu Alfa is on 167k kilometers now it's been changed at 60k kilometers in 2017 ,I got the car in 2021 at 150k kilometers
The cat engine is in great condition id love to send you images of how it looks
Can't wait to hear from you !
Thanx again for the all the videos you make ,you are really helping us out here 💪🏾
Hi Gift. It does depend on the engine, but max of 5 years really and up to 72k miles. If yours has done 90k since it was last changed then it’s due for replacement again.
Hope that helps
All the best 👍
Samedi problem on my Giulietta thanks for this video. It's possible to change this joint ?
Yes. There’s a video on exactly this on the channel. All the best 👍
Thanks Tony 👍
Cheers Mate 👍
Useful tip! Thanks
Yup same happened to me but in my case nothing lit up at all
ty
Hi Tony - I have been having the same problem 3 times over the last month, everything in the car turns on but it won't start, and battery is fine. I have had to disconnect the negative terminal for a few minutes and put it back on and it starts right up no problem. I'll check the positive and see if it is arching or lose. Thank You.
Starter motor or solenoid?
I've had this issue and I had to tap the starter motor while someone turned the key, started up fine. Getting the motor replaced and will keep an eye on it. Not the easiest thing to reach from the top mind you
@@randomdaveUK I ended up taking off both battery terminals and just put them back on a little tighter. I haven't had any issues since then. Its strange that this started happing after dealer service. Maybe they didn't get the positive terminal all the way on....
@@troykid2000 glad that worked for you 👍
I've had my starter motor replaced now so hopefully that'll be it for another 70k miles
Great video again, the new chrisfix hear lol. Did you ever permanently fix this problem as I assume it was a broken or stretched terminal
Hi again. Yes, it was a cracked terminal. If you’ve seen the battery replacement video you can see it in there. I finally upgraded it a good few weeks back.

Hope that helps.
Thank you for watching again.
All the best 👍
Thank you! First like😎
Tony in one of your first videos six months ago didn't you find that the terminal metal clamp was cracked when you came to change the battery? And you said that you would replace it at some point? Could that be causing the bad connection if it hasn't been replaced yet?.
Hi Cran. I did wonder if anyone was going to remember that. Yes, I’m sure that will have something to do with it. I’ll be replacing it this weekend hopefully all being well.
Look after yourself.
All the best 👍
Great car but having faults like that fragile basic functions is a turn off, clarkson was right Alfa crying 90% and that 10% i made it to lands end that one sunny day!#.
