The Bandai version barely had anything to do with the manga or anime, and was only ever sold in cardass machines despite how the anime and manga depicts the cards being sold in booster packs, and of course, no one was buying the cards due to lack of interest and how unfaithful it all was.

Imagine being a fan of Bandai properties in Australia. Despite Australia being closer to Japan than the United States and being close to South East Asian countries that have Premium Bandai available (and have had a brief period in the early 2000s where we got a very popular Japanese toyline and anime series known as Crush Gear localised and sold while it was never shown in the United States), we have *no* chance to get PreBan items such as various Masked Rider items and Gundam models, and even... yes, the PreBan exclusive Crush Gear revival sets. As a fan of the incredibly underrated 90s series After War Gundam X, this means I'm unable to get the now expensive model kit of the Daughtress, which was the first release of this *MASS PRODUCTION* Mobile Suit meant for *ARMY BUILDING.* It is *SO* counter-intuitive to sell that Mobile Suit as a limited run exclusive model.

    • @PyrusZodiac

As a South-East Asian here, having P-Bandai here is like basically not having it at all. Bandai allocates like 20 pieces to each country which gets eaten up by scalpers and their bots no less than a second after pre-orders open. And this isn't even an exaggeration but the truth.
Plus, P-Bandai preorders open waay before office hours end so you just know its degenerate basement dwellers who think scalping is their personality and full time grind that have access to it.

4:13 Coming from someone who’s a Gundam fan, one of the biggest reasons why I got into Gunpla is because of its accessibility to their huge catalogue of kits. Almost everything was available if you looked in the right places.
Now, in addition to the Gunpla drought we’ve had for years, a large chunk of new releases are PBandai, which practically neuters the appeal of the hobby.
Edit: I’d also like to add that PBandai was fine when it was just recolors and variants, and it’s recently become a problem when new molds/entirely new kits were being sent there.

Sadly a lot of Japanese companies are tone deaf. They will go backwards instead of going forward. SEGA of Japan instantly comes to mind. At 1 point they were ruling the console market. But shot themselves in the foot by pumping out expesive add-ons like the SEGA CD with little to no marketing or clarification on what it was. And they went against their American branch's advise to not roll out the Saturn so soon because the Genesis was still selling well. They always found a way to overextend themselves. And now they're nothing more than a 3rd party game publisher.

    • @rayvenkman2087
      @rayvenkman2087 5 дней назад +13

Sega of Japan is particularly backwards with Sonic because they’re so Anti-Western Sonic... Yet Sonic does far better in the west and so many of the woes he’s suffered is because of them not knowing when to not get in their own way or a stubborn inability to admit they don’t know what they’re doing like the entire 2010’s Meta era of Sonic.
I could be wrong but we could have gotten Sonic Mania 2 by now had they learned to just keep their mouths shut and let people who know what they’re doing do their jobs.
Sonic Team by extension made some serious boneheaded calls like fooling around with a game engine for better shadow effects more than actually working on the game which is the story of Sonic Forces or splitting up the team to half to work on a Wii title (Eventually releasing as Secret Rings) at a crucial time in a period where several studios were making the leap to the PS3-Xbox 360 Gen when Sonic 2006 was being worked on. A game that needed all the manpower it required as the centrepiece of the 15th Anniversary.
The fanmade remake Project-06 shows just how badly their decision backfired when fans are able to give the game the polish and bug fixing it needed. When you see how phenomenal that’s turning out for a project that’s still being worked on by one guy and a small group to assist him, it makes the decisions made for 2006 by a corporation with more manpower at their disposal even dumber in comparison. And you have the likes of IGN who loves to keep beating on that dead horse despite the fact we have absolute trash being put out now that’s fundamentally worse than an unpolished game from 2006.
There’s also the whole treatment of the secondary characters and the stupid mandates involved.
Sonic suffers from what I like to call stop-go momentum. Every once in a while, Sonic will get some traction and people raving; then Sega proceeds to put out something that halts the momentum.
Sonic Generations did well. Then Lost World comes along.
Sonic Mania received praise and people got excited for Forces. Then Forces drops.
The Sonic Movie was almost dead on arrival with that awful Movie Sonic design before the big retool to make a Movie Sonic that’s good looking and less uncanny looking. Because of that, we got a sequel that did well which helped Sonic Frontiers by extension and an upcoming second sequel that everyone’s eagerly awaiting because we’re in the Year of Shadow. A lot of times when Sega of Japan is hands off from the creation process, Sonic tends to flourish best that way.

Hasbro and Bandai have both had key parts in the overexposure of MMPR in relation to many other parts of Power Rangers. Exactly what Bandai did is debatable... But Hasbro sure were the ones that have continued that mishandling.
New series of the Power Rangers TV series have been a strange mix of basic storylines that appeal to toddlers and a larger emphasis on existing lore no such kid will be aware of. How the hell is a kid going to understand the importance of the Beast Morphers finale if they haven't seen RPM?
almost exactly a year ago, Hasbro totally shut down the New Zealand production crew for Power Rangers.... Even though the series had only recently moved to Netflix where it seemingly performed pretty well.
Cosmic Fury had a grand total of 3 toys released (Megazord, Morpher and Zenith Ranger mask + dagger set), it never even had a chance to justify the Cosmic Fury suits that were deliberately simplified to be easier to make as action figures.
Now the Lightning Collection is also cancelled, I've heard it's due to the lack of a TV show even though it rarely tackled current series (Beast Morphers is 1 Ranger away from team completion in base forms, Dino Fury has 2 figures, Once & Always and Cosmic Fury never got any)
And now that the primary toys and TV show are dead.... *Now* is the time to go all out on the MMPR licensing? Now there's a mobile idle game, a console game, new merch still coming out from other licensees... And now PLAYMATES IS MAKING AN MMPR TOYLINE NEXT YEAR????
I also feel they really missed an opportunity to collect licensing revenue from allowing more Super Sentai series they owned to be distributed, instead there was a massive pause between Shout! Factory's Hurricaneger (March 2019) and Fiveman (September 2022) releases, then there has been radio silence since Dekaranger (February 2023).

Heres something you didn't bring up. Blue Protocol when it first launched in Japan had a deluge of foreigners interested in trying it out early, fair enough right? Thats rather common especially for games that are gonna get localized WAAAY later. Bandai however did not like this so they took it upon themselves to tunnel vision ban any foreigners they can find and keep focusing on that.
How tunnel visioned were they? While they were focus firing on banning foreigners they had let rampant hacking go unchecked for months on end. People found they could not participate in playing the game because hackers were using cheats that let them kill every mob in the overworlds instantly and were not being banned.
Bandai genuinely would rather let their products burn to the ground from hackers than let foreigners try out the game cause "OH MY GOD DEM FILTHY GAIJINS ARE TOUCHING OUR PURE NIPPON PRODUCT".

The problem I do have however, is how a product can still become sold out, even though they're clearly making the product, after the fact they know people want to purchase it. In fact what really bothers me about this particular practice, is that by adding this limited number to production, pretty much gives scalpers an incentive and a source to make money from.
Whereas, if for example, during the sale period, EVERYONE who wanted to buy the item, were guaranteed it, as long as they bought it at that time, then, the scalpers won't even bother, because everyone who wants the item would've already gotten it from the main source, and won't pay x2, x3 the price that scalpers would resell the product for.

I too have been burned by their decisions with Digimon, but also, their sister series, Tamagotchi. They recently had an interview with a prominent Tamagotchi RUclipsr and there was not a single encouraging thing in that video. They ignore very strong fan demand for specific re-releases, and instead, insist on waiting for anniversaries. They claim to care about their established fanbase but admit they're more interested in "core america" but their strategy for going after "core america" is to just flood the market with remakes of the very dated original tamagotchi that isn't even a faithful remake and is easier to kill thanks to a change in how snacks work, and they changed the way care works so that even tamagotchi veterans won't understand why they're not getting the pet they want. They also offer very short support life for their tamagotchis online connectivity, their most recent one relies on DLC for content but you cannot hold more than one DLC on your device, so it just makes the DLC not very appetizing to me.. they also have a very disgusting nickname for their adult fans, the "kidults", im sure it makes most fans want to wretch, feels very dehumanizing.
There was also pretty much the entire decision with the Tamagotchi anime. They dubbed one season with the most unprofessional voice actors i've ever heard ( coincidentally it also made the anime much funnier than it was probably meant to be ) and then just gave up after that, when this really could have gotten more fans interested if it was broadcast on TV, that's pretty much how Pokemon got it's start outside of Japan, the anime carried it for the first few years. They won't even offer a sub. But they'll still refrence the hell out of the anime in that new video game that is APPLE ARCADE EXCLUSIVE. That's another thing, this new Tamagotchi Connection Remake is coming out but is missing one of it's most hype features, the ability to connect to Tama Town and play games with your v-pet and earn prizes and currency. Their excuse: We have video games now. But nobody can play it unless they buy a fucking Ipad. So again, that's just less exposure for the brand that they claim to want to get in front of "core america", because core america loves exclusive shit.
Lastly, this new coming device has no pause feature. Why? "Because you can't really pause a pet irl", bullshit, it's because Japanese releases don't have a pause button and Bandai always leans into Japanese nostalgia more than the west, even though they want "Core America" and the "kidults" have jobs, and kids have school, a thing virtual pets were FAMOUSLY BANNED FROM because kids took them to school with them, not knowing you could pause them by leaving it at the clock setting screen. Maybe if they just had a normal pause, that wouldn't have happened.
Sorry for that wall of text. But man they've frustrated the shit out of me with Digimon and Tamagotchi especially.

    • @unknownscientist1530
      @unknownscientist1530 3 дня назад +1

I recently was having a huge nostalgia high for Tamagotchis recently and found out that they were rereleasing the very same model I owned as a kid, and started to get back into the hobby because of it. But was I completely unaware of the company's short comings when it came to their product lines.
While I'm not nearly as offended about the term "kidult" (Anything beats manchild in my opinion.) I am pretty peeved that they basically said that they weren't bringing back Tamatown, a staple that pretty much elevated the connection line. They aren't going to release things like the V4 onward unless it coincides with an anniversary, despite the fact that fans are foaming at the mouth for those reworks and Bandai is just choosing not to give the fans what they want. As well as the removal of arguably one of the most useful and VITAL features is a pretty big let down. The pause feature is what really gets me though, the joy of having a virtual pet is, well, it's not an actual pet. Sure, you can't pause a pet IRL, but isn't that why people buy digital pets in the first place? To have the gratifying experience taking care of a creature that you know deep down is just a small series of pixels?
I like Tamagotchis and the brand, like a lot. I had fond memories of the version I had as a kid, and I preordered the connection rerelease as soon as I could and even bought myself a Gen 1 repro and have been enjoying it since. But I'm already raising an eyebrow with how they're treating it.

I feel like a lot of Bandai's problems stem from a degree of xenophobia. They are a Japan based company with a heavy "Japan first" bias, and as much as they want a slice of the global market their manufacturing capability is very limited and they don't want to lose the footing they have on their own turf just to sell to the rest of the world, so not only do they limit availability through their own p-bandai storefront they also threatened export stores and demand they don't sell gunpla directly overseas so as not to cut into their own market. They say it's to curb scalping, but the end result is they get to vet which American stores get to sell their products with no one allowed to bypass that except HobbyLink(which is more trouble than it'll ever be worth). Basically they want to have their cake and eat it too, and it's just not working. Frankly I'm waiting to see them drop out of the global market altogether, because that seems much more likely than them getting their act together outside of their own country.

Fellow Digimon fan here. I'll touch a bit more on how they are absurdly incompetent when it comes to this particular franchise:
Have you ever heard of the Digimon mobile games? of course you haven't, silly. Because they kept killing them after just 2 years of operation for whatever reason. I loved Digimon Heroes, which was kind of a card/match-3 type of game. It wasn't anything amazing, but the game was fun in it's own right. Still it went EOS after barely 2 years, then they vomited Digimon Links, a pvp focused gacha game with barely anything to do besides the arena mode. It also went down after barely 2 years and then they tried with ReArise, wich was more in line with mobile games at the time and was, overall, very decent, but it also didn't last more then 2 years. All of their games, while kinda decent, were mostly devoid of any actual content besides 1 or 2 game modes and a constant power creep. The games didn't became massive successes over night, so they abandoned them and with each new entry, people were more skeptical about the longevity of the games, therefore not buying shit.
On the other hand you may know YugiOh or Magic, right? 2 very famous TCG. You know what they have in common? A GAME. Well it's not really a game per se, but a virtual arena or something like that, you know... TO PLAY WITHOUT GOING OUT??? You know what the Digimon TCG has? A VIRTUAL TUTORIAL. CAN YOU EXPLAIN ME WHY ONLY JUST A TUTORIAL???? YOU ALREADY HAVE THE PROGRAM UP AND RUNNING, ADD MORE CARDS AND A MATCHMAKING??? HELLO??? COMPETE ON THE MARKET?????????????????

Former ReArise player here, who quit when they rolled out the last gasp money grab that was the change to the PvP arena and started to rerelease old Digimon in a new format specifically for that. It's funny how I stopped playing and then something like 2 months later, I heard the game was shutting down.
Oh, and the whole insane pricing for DIgirubies, to the point where it put so many people off even buying them. I could do, at most, a single 10 pull a week, and that was if I did arena grinding.
A shame, because for a while they were actually stat boosting older Digimon to make them at least decent to use. There was powercreep, but nowhere near as bad as it could have been. It was cool to log in and see that, oh hey, this old Digimon got its stats boosted to make it viable.

Thank you algorithm for throwing this at me! Bandai's comeuppance cannot come any sooner...I am frustrated to no end with how much they keep fumbling with the Tales Of series, to the point that they look like they want to kill it. They sure didn't know what the hell to do after Arise. What followed was a string of mobile game closures and a shoddy mess of a "remaster" for one of the series' most beloved titles (Symphonia). One that frankly seems to get rereleased to heck despite fans constantly begging for ports/remasters of the much older entries and entries that weren't released outside of Japan.
Circling back to the mobile games, ooh I am still so SALTY about what happened to Crestoria and Luminaria. Their stories and characters are so amazingly written, fit to be console titles, but nooooOOOOoooo they had to be relegated to the disgusting gacha format AND NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO FINISH after Bandai wasn't seeing the numbers they wanted. Crestoria got a manga continuation which is going to be the only active Tales Of content after their last mobile game standing (Tales of the Rays) shuts down next month. And even that manga is under frequent pressure, as the artist revealed a while back it's been getting warnings to cease production because there doesn't seem to be much interest in it. Because Bandai didn't, y'know, PROMOTE THE DAMN THING THAT WELL.
TL;DR being a Tales Of fan is also that kind of pain. I HATE Bandai, I hate them so much, I wish the Tales Of series to be ripped out of their hands and given to a company that could handle the IP with a lot more competence.

It feels like it's the only company who is getting away with all of their BS without ever being reprimanded or put in the spotlight for it. We're always making fun of EA, Blizzard and Bethesda as if Bandai Namco never existed. And as someone on that subreddit pointed out, they will make deals and partner with RUclipsrs, which results in them not even being able to criticize Bandai without losing said partnerships. I would almost describe this as a parasite, where every popular Bandai content creator loses all ability to be upfront and critical in exchange for being invited to test their products early. This then feeds into the entire problem even more and Bandai continues to get away with each and every horrible decision they make. I get more and more sad every time I think about it, and I wonder if there will ever come a time where they would have to atone and improve themselves.

Massive Tales Of fan here, and you nailed it right on the head. I’ve never seen a company so consistently incompetent and still somehow makes money being so incompetent.
To clarify. The Tales series has been going since 1995, and has had annual releases since. Do you know that we here overseas only have *half* of these games? We have all of the “mainline” games, but others, such as Tales Of Innocence, Rebirth, and several others are still Japan only, and have been said previously to not be coming overseas at all? Did you know that in the mainline games, they have optional bosses known as cameo battles, where you can fight characters previously featured in past games in the series, and that some of the games they reference they sometimes have the gall to pull from games that have been Japan only, that anyone not in Japan would be completely mystified on who they are and what their deal is?
For better reference, imagine a world where every Final Fantasy game was Japan only, save for FF7 and FF9. 9 constantly references every game beforehand, so while people in Japan would get all of the winks and nods, everyone else would be totally lost on what this game is even talking about half of the time. Now imagine a company unironically doing just that with their own RPG franchise, and you’re expected to get the references despite locking half of the games away overseas without any means to play them other than fan translations or in some cases outright piracy because they refuse to rerelease these games as well unless it’s a cold day in hell.
Now imagine everything I just mentioned above and then some, because Bamco recently delisted the Tales games that were on PS3, that they *TO THIS DAY* have not rereleased and possibly never will unless serious fan outcry happens, all because they could and no one has the power to stop them. Instead, they’d rather rerelease a game that’s a port of a port of a port from almost 20 years ago and expect you to pay for that and the glitchy mess that it is instead of giving it a full blown ground up remake like it deserved.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about any other company except for Bamco. They need to get their just desserts and it needs to happen soon.

Would like to add my additional knowledge on Bandai Namco's incompetence when it comes to Klonoa Phantasy Reverie. (+Katamari)
    It's clearly rushed.
Let's rewind to when the first Katamari game was remastered by Monkey Craft, they did a damn good job, only one actual bug with the port that doesn't really detract from the game in any way, and the only grievance I have with it is that there's no option to use the original models for the playable characters, which have been replaced with new ones that don't match the PS2 game's art style.
What does Namco do next? Have this same studio remaster the sequel, We Love Katamari.
Cool, makes sense, they can absolutely get that one done with no issues with the experience they gained from the first job, eas-
_They also have them develop the remasters for BOTH Klonoa games AT THE SAME TIME._
Three big projects at once, all three of which are beloved titles which fans have been itching to have rereleased for literal decades.
And lo and behold, when We Love Katamari Reroll and Phantasy Reverie come out, they _"suspiciously"_ have some of the same issues, strange changes to how the original games functioned, and a noticeable lack of polish for anyone who pays even a little bit of attention.
The "game" part of the games themselves are entirely serviceable, it's just everything surrounding that which is scuffed in the weirdest of ways, cutscenes being wonky as hell in the Klonoa games with how text progresses, Reroll 2 forgetting to update the character designs for cousins returning from the first game, which canonically changed between games, made obvious by the fact their ingame character descriptions directly mention these changes, even though they don't even exist in that version, both games having an annoying unremovable "hold to skip" prompt in the corner ALL cutscenes, consistent framerate issues, misguided changes to the UI in Reroll 2, especially in the hub world, and finally, half assed added content that that is clearly undercooked, hats for the Klonoa games, while also removing the added Mirror Mode challenge levels from Wii version, and all the Royal Reverie levels in Reroll 2, that don't even add any stars or planets to the cosmos when beaten like every other level (the main catharsis of these games being when you go to the Cosmos Viewer and gaze upon your achievements floating in the sky), and also coincides with the fact they forgot to update the design of the young King, whom you play as in this mode, to match the new art style, leading him looking out of place in all of the promotional material that puts him side by side with the Prince and cousins, he's literally using the old art style.

Not to mention, they hardly bothered to market these games in the west pre-release. Literally the only trailer that they made for Phantasy Reverie Series before its release in the States was the announcement trailer. After that, the game had to depend on the fans to spread the word so it would be profitable, which, while thankfully successful, could have run the risk of making the fanbase look bad if they came off as too pushy.
And then the remaster itself is bad. Just a pitiful case overall.

Namco is a Japanese gaming company that has historically made many of the most popular games of all time, and pioneered new technology in the gaming industry for decades.
Sadly, Namco had to make a merge deal in order to stay alive - in this case, with Bandai. Think of Bandai as a tumor on Namco's shoulder. Namco remains a competent company on their own.

The Bandai Namco NUI website has World Shopping partnership, but their products are still region restricted, so I can't get whatever upcoming Japan-exclusive Tamagotchi merch firsthand, and we aren't planning on returning to Japan. How frustrating! Also, I don't really trust second-hand preorders.
Compared back to earlier decades, when Tamagotchi were much more popular than nowadays, there was merch for most of the characters at that time. Now, newer debutants barely even get a single plush. (Even my favourite character barely got merch of himself, but I got what I can.)
Seeing two of the newest characters recieve plushies as part of a Japan-exclusive Sanrio crossover plush series, I thought I could snag them, but the only problem is that I don't live in Japan. The website that the preorders were listed in fooled me into thinking they were available to ship overseas, but a disclaimer says otherwise.
Being a very recently established Tamagotchi interest person, I'll leave other opinions regarding older media to more experienced fans.

Imma classic Namco fan, from Pac-man, Xevious and all of the other little obscure oddities. I'm in a discord server and we all basically admit that the Namco-Bandai merger is probably one of the worst things ever to happen to Namco. You essentially notice that almost all of their original IPs get culled off with a few exceptions such as Tekken, Ace Combat, and the Tails series.
Pac-Man borderlines getting the Mickey Mouse treatment where he's the FACE of the company but ever rarely gives big stuff to em, just smaller titles. Pac-Man 99 got murked after barley a year on the market and I'm not gonna be surprised if this new battle royale coming out does too. This after the GIANT fiasco that was the ghostly adventures reboot and all the wacky bullcrap and mismanagement they did with that series. There's a reason why we want to forget about that period.
My last gripe is the MEDIOCRE anime games that they all just seem to publish nowadays. It is essentially a giant red flag if Bandai-Namco is publishing your favorite shonen jump series' game, cause all what you gonna get is a undercooked Arena fighter thats gonna die in 3 months. The only exception to the rule is Dragon Ball but even I will admit that they rarley ever are excellent just good but you can tell that they at least give some damn about it. I just find it frustrating because your Dragon Ball and Sega's Fist of the Northstar games show that you can make quality anime titles. It just feels like for every good game Namco can get it out using their Original IP's, you get 4 more that are mismanaged, or a low-effort rushed anime game.

Bamco’s management of Pac-man during the 2010s was so bad, started off pretty good with party, Pac-Man tilt on 3ds and CE DX, then after they made a flopped reboot nobody asked for and then mobile shovelware
Thankfully we at least have the Pac-Man world remake and museum + which gave us games like pac n roll onto modern hardware

    THANK YOU!!! MY GOD!!!
As a Digimon fan that started with the DM20, I was there to see all of the shit unfold, and that's not even mentioning the constant shutdown of Digimon mobile games.
But the DM20 was such a great start for what should've been the rebirth of Digimon. The Digimon X1 really solidified Digimon for me. I was waiting on the X3 because I really wanted to get Jesmon X but with the X2 fumbling I knew we were cooked.
Then came the Vital Bracelet. I also ended doing the $39 preorder for the white VB. I wanted it so bad I got the app way before then using the free Pulsemon to mess around. Faith was restored for me with the VB.
So then the VB BE dropped and fomo hit me despite the red flags like the Dims not being able to make use of any of the new features of the BE and Dim Digimon *literally* being weaker on top of that. But I still enjoyed the device and the BE Memories they released for it.
And may every Digimon fan say in unison: "F*ck the Arena App!"
Because that solidifies everything this video talks about. First of all, they knowingly released an inferior app and I thank God nothing fatal have happened to my Digimon. And second, instead of actually fixing the app, they left it to rot. It's impressive that the app actually is still in service.
I'm just waiting for the moment that Bandai truly redeems themselves overseas with Digimon.

My most recenr annoyance with Bandai is how the HG Huckebein Boxer went up on P-Bandai after their US site was down for about a week and it immediately sold out before I realized their site was back up.

That is what's happened when companies let boomers be leaders.

P Bandai has gotten absolutely atrocious over the past few years. I was fine with how the service was handled initially, being used only for items that were using an existing retail mold as a base and making some minor changes to give a new design, one that won't appeal to the masses as a whole and is more niche than the retail release version. Nowadays, P Bandai is being used to release almost everything, regardless of whether or not the mold being used is an existing one or brand new, or if the appeal would be niche or not. Back in 2014, it made sense for Bandai to release the MG Exia Repair II as a P Bandai release. The design is not very different in general from the regular MG Exia, which you can find at any retail store that sells gunpla. Now in 2024, P Bandai just released the Robot Damashii Calibarn Gundam, the final mobile suit that the protagonist uses in The Witch from Mercury. This is an action figure of a lead character. It is not a slight color variation of it, it is the default version of a LEAD CHARACTER. There was no reason at all to put this as a P Bandai release.
Additionally, since this video mostly talked about Digimon, let's bring it back around and talk about their latest failure in the action figure department, the Digivolving Spirits line. Bandai really pushed this line as being the next big thing, but then very quickly dropped it when it wasn't meeting their expectations. My guess is because most adult digimon fans would probably want a more accurate representation of the characters over one that transforms and has all that kibble. But this line promised so much that we just haven't gotten elsewhere, and won't get ever again, since several figures just got canceled when the line got canned.
