- Since they are basically fighting with Dartmouth Aires for being the better performing group, i think it's obvious they want dartmouth aires instead so this could be their final performance of the series unfortunately coming in 7th place..
they sang Billy Joel Songs of "In the Middle of the Night" & "She's Always A Woman" & "Uptown Girl"
I think Aaron, i think that's his name, seems to overdo his performance with his facial expressions lol but because dartmouth performed a hell of a performance earlier i knew the signs were on the wall and this performance wasnt one of their best so i'm not optimistic about their chances..good group of guys but just not the most powerful singing voices. B

they came to my school this past year, and i got the chance to talk to them and have a workshop with them. they're all really cool and super talented. much much much better in person :)

I love Billy Joel and I love the YellowJackets. I think they did a great job with this medley, especially Aaron. I liked the fact that he stuck mostly with the original melody that Billy Joel sang, rather than improvising a lot and moving away from it too much.
I loved it, and I wish they had stayed on. My hometown guys, they have such great energy and are so much fun to watch and to listen to!
That uptown girl was something else, but wow I haven't seen these Sing off performances since I was a kid
Duet with Aaron and Jamal was amazing!!!!
Billy Joel is my favorite artist of all time and the Yellowjackets do a great job

If you combined the soloists of Dartmouth Aires with the rest of the singers from the YellowJackets, they would sweep the whole competition.
The song The River of Dreams reminds me of Lion King everytime I hear it! :)

NO. Whether in theory or in practice, having more members does not guarantee better sound. Having more members only make things complicated and increases the probability of making mistakes. Its harder to harmonize 16 voices than only 5 voices. Also, each member of this group can produce different sounds if the song requires a lot of instrument sound other than bass and percussion (e.g. trumpet or flute). In PTX Avi and Kevin produces more than 1 sound. (BTW, I'm a PTX fan too)
@fofilasouris because it's not about whether you enjoyed it it's about how well they arrange the songs and how well they sing the arrangements, just because you don't like rap/hip-hop doesn't mean that other people won't

I actually really enjoyed this performance. I just wish someone other than Aaron would have done the solos.

Just a point, one of the songs isn't in the middle of the night, the sing is called river of dreams and the line in the song went "in the middle of the Nile"
nope. The lyrics are "In the middle of the night"
How would you walk in the middle of the Nile? A simple google search shows you the lyrics. The lyrics are also on his official website.
I loved them. I wanted them to win if Pentatonix didnt.
But still, Uptown Girl never fails to bring a smile to my face.

You guys were totally robbed. Afro-Blue did nothing with their Janet medley, and Delilah put us to sleep trying to sound like Alicia. We were totally shocked. But we loved your swan song. You were a lot of fun, and I think the judges made a huge mistake letting you go ...

Ironically, there was a group called Men of Note and they are the only group that sang For The Longest Time. Why?

5:04 : you can tell from his face that he knows just how badly he butchered it. The judges were kind enough to gloss over that or not mention it at all, but I have to think they only did that because it was so painfully obvious that there was no need to add insult to injury by stating it.
@mrduckbear11 so you're saying that aaron, yes that is his name, can't get into the performance? i do that when i sing..... is there a problem with that? don't judge...

This is the 2nd group that shouldn't have been voted off this season....(First was North Shore)
Matter of taste, but I really like Urban Method and I usually don't even like the rapping parts. The main thing I like about them is the "production" aspect of it that Ben's mentioned, those polished, studio-like, layered harmonies: mmmm.
Billy Joel is probably my all time favorite musician. That being said it's a shame how badly they butchered some of his greatest hits - the pitches were off throughout most of the medley and the harmonies weren't impressive making it painful to listen to.

Man, this performance was DOPE! Loads better than Delilah. All they are doing is selling sex on the stage. This group here was very musical, and their range could stretch so much further.

I have enjoyed every single performance of the Yellow Jackets, and especially this one. I have enjoyed almost none of Urban method's. Why are they still in the competition??
I have enjoyed all their performances too and can't say the same for Urban Method, Delilah,etc. I like that they are abt the group and not abt just one strong character voice as Ben said.
But maybe the reason the others are still around - they might be more marketable. Ben always mentions Urban Method's strong studio sound ...
Personally I would rather watch/listen to the YJs, and the Aires
ANd I agree with other comments that what the judges say don't match how they choose who stays/goes.

They should have went with Jamal for the lead for all thier performaces. It seems they did not want to let Aaron down, even thought the judges kept saying how unique Jamal's voice was. Then Aaron drops out on that last note ... I felt bad for the rest of the group.

I liked this performance, aside from the couple of flat notes here and there. Usually a group this size can cover the off notes more or less, so it's just unfortunate that one of them came right at the end when everyone had cut out to give the spotlight to the falsetto that just couldn't come up with it. Not the way you want to end.

does anyone else think that the guy who sings "in the middle of the night" sounds better in the intro than in the actual performance?
It is just my opinion, which isn't worth much. But...here is a group with as I counted 13 members, give or take. So basically they are at least 2.5 times bigger than PTX. They should in theory, sound at least twice as good as PTX. Right? But they don't. Why? There aren't 13 notes to the chords they are singing. So they must be doubling up on the notes to each chord. Instead of one person singing a note in a chord, like PTX, they have 2 or 3 or 4 people sing the same note. PTX is lean and mean!!!
I'm gonna need some new pants.

I really want to know what goes on in the judges heads. North Shore had one ok week and got eliminated while Delilah had been sucking for the previous 2 weeks. Now Urban Method has had 2 bad weeks in a row and the Yellow Jackets get eliminated.
What the judges say doesn't match the results.
2 people aren't floating on the river of dreams and don't have a woman or an uptown girl
She's Always a Woman was the best part. Their arrangement was fine it just wasn't *great* you know? They can't top the others

@DudeintoMatureMen Completely disagree. I think Jamal's voice wouldn't work as a main lead, rather they need to stop spreading solos so far and follow the Dartmouth Aires model of main and supporting leads.
I honestly think the only reason they went home is that they needed to lose one of the all male college groups. I think the judges chose poorly. I hardly remember any of the Vocal Point numbers. They're good, but forgettable.
But Yellow Jackets stand out to me.

@bluejay6616 who penatatonix? Chill with that...Pentatonix had the 2nd best performance that night. Urban Method on the other hand, I have to agree with.
i like the group but you are right. when the lead stops in mid word its never going to be pretty. sorry jackets but airs should have won but even they got screwed out by pentatonix.
Pentatonix or Urban Method should've gotten eliminated not The YellowJackets

So they had Billy Joel and used the straightest stiffest most unrelatable songs ever. UPTOWN GIRL? REALLY?
The arrangement was bad. The transitions were poor. It just wasn't a very a performance.
