I flew QueenAirs for several years in the 70s, and had many epic trips especially to the far north of Scotland, Dounreay, in a lot of bad weather.
Great aeroplane, the engines needed very careful handling especially in icing conditions. When maintained properly a reliable aircraft!
Super in a crosswind😀
Great memories!!!
I love it. You are correct about the engines in icing, or snow for that matter!
I had a out of balance propeller when I was doing my final solo before my PPL flight test (single engine). Aircraft was shaking a fair bit I thought it was a engine failure imminent so just headed straight back into the airport. Traffic in the pattern was kind enough to remain out of my way and uneventful landing. My usual instructor came out and said it did sound odd. We assumed some sort of engine issue but turned out the renter before me had taken the aircraft to a gravel runway and the stones had thrown the prop out of alignment.
Mystery vibrations in aircraft make me uncomfortable.
I love the Queen Air. It’s like a miniature airliner. I got to ride right seat in one 40 years ago on a flight from EVV to MKG and return. Unfortunately, we had the misfortune of having the nose gear collapse upon landing back at EVV. It seems the bolt the upper end of the downlock brace pivots on had sheared off. We showed 3 green before landing, but the first weight on the nose wheel allowed it to slip out and the gear to fold up. No injuries, but the poor Queen was a mess. Both freshly rebuilt props pretzeled, both low time engines had their crankshafts cracked, plus the damage to the gear itself and the nose cone. 😢
Makes me sad thinking about an injured Queen!
Love it… spent the first 9 years of my life across the street (hwy 65) from Blaine airport… first flight was at age 5 in a Grumman tiger… now that I have my ppl, it’s a bucket list to fly back there someday
That's where I did most of my flight training back in the day.
My buddies family owned the flight school at Anoka and we'd ride our bikes to the airport and hang out all day. Good times.
We lived on 104th and rode our bikes to the tall grass, and watched people come and go…. 1970 ish…. 😂 you were probably not training yet.
@@Jeffrey-Flys I started training in 1981.
Love the sound on the fly by! Awesome!
I always thought it sounded like a warbird!
I guess that you’re a take and wait for the avionics work. Can’t think of a more fun airplane for the trip to AK. I guess you’re thinking about going after OSH so de-ice will be essential. Looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing.
Hopefully icing isn't that much of a big deal this time of year but you never know. I just want a fully mission capable airplane.
Nice to hear vibration sorted! Is it an optical illusion or is the prop clearance on a Queen Air literally 10cms!!
It's close but not that close.
@KerryDMcCauley Good news! . Could or rather would you take it onto a grass strip?
@@ivorevans1795 I would definitely take it onto a grass strip. I love grass!
Best sounding airplanes in the correct order: Excalibur Queenair, Standard Queenair, P-51, 1969 D55 Barons with 3 blade props. Sause: I am an expert.
I 100% agree!
You forgot the D50C Twin Bonanza.would turn heads on every takeoff ( Queen Airbs Dad😊)
@@EdmondSmith-u8o It sure would! Made a few jumps out of a Twin Bo back in the day. Man, that thing was LOUD with the door off!
With all 16 cylinders popping, you can close your eyes and think a P-51 was taking off.
Just LOVE that Queen Air rumble!
Nice video. Like the music.
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Um avião bonito!
Flight controls free and correct? Does that airplane not have ailerons and rudder?
That was probably the third time I'd checked before that takeoff. I always do one last last check.
Where was the crosswind from on the landing in Anoka? I missed that part of the atis
@@pinepaul9920 50 degree crosswind gusting to 22 knots. Not an excuse for my shitty landing!
Hey. If you’d like a safety pilot, or just somebody to clean the windows and check the oil, for your trip to Alaska in the Queen Air I’m game! I’ll bring the snacks!. Hope to stop by and see you at Oshkosh. #chefforceone
I'll put you on the list! As you can imagine I've got a lot of people who want to come on the trip!
👍✅👏
What's hanging off the rudder, mid height?
Static wick that needs replacing.
@KerryDMcCauley always something
Better have those mechanics fix your anti-collison light, too! Somebody not do a walk-around???
