One summer several of us fished the Willow Flowage in upper Wisconsin. Rain had been behind that spring. So lakes had dwindled down to interconnected rivers. We could literally wade our way in the water for miles catching everything that would eat a number 2 Mepps inline spinner. Otters would swim by not real happy about us being there. Eagles and hawks had nests in the trees. It was truly paradise.

From the Sault. I miss the great outdoors in the UP. So many hidden gem lakes and streams to fish. I got a lot of fishing stories from the eastern UP. The St. Marys alone holds up around 80 species of aquatic life. I caught some trophy steelhead, rainbows, walleye and smallmouth bass along its shores. The trout streams are magical. But there is nothing like hiking through the woods to a remote lake. God, I miss that.

@@WanderingYooper Likewise when i get up to the UP! No relatives directly I'm aware of, but we are just the same. I've met yoopers across the country, when i lived in Montana is one time that comes to mind and oh yeah, we are like peas in a pod.
I think I'd be short changing those same kinship I feel with Wisconsinites, Depending on the area. I love to hate Wisconsin, (its beautiful, great state with alot to offer, I truly love Wisconsin as well) But from a sports stand point, its fun to poke fun and give em a bit of a hard time. Same thing applies though, much of Wisconsin has the same feeling as the UP, especially northern. north central Wisconsin. Its pretty dang close, but honestly something about the yoopers just hits a whole different thread for me. Love ironwood, calumet, Marquette, copper harbor and beyond. Great people, fantastic region and so beautiful. Appreiate you all.
Dont get me wrong either, I've spent time n madison, green bay, etc and those are good people too. Not the same vibe exactly as northern MN but it still resonates.

I only cought and released one fish in the U P that was on a lure at the inlet of a lake created by a giant beaver dam. The line was broken off and wrapped around a branch. I could tell something was on it and pulled in a 28 to 30 inch pike that was really tired, I gather he was only alive from eating what came down the creek feeding the lake. I was backpacking Pictured rocks and had headed up a small creek when I ran across this lake in the middle of nowhere, good times.
