One player isn’t the reason why a baseball team wins or doesn’t win the World Series. This isn’t the NBA. And his Phillies teammates absolutely love him. The Nats probably would have won in 2012 if their closer didn’t choke in the NLDS. But I guess that’s Bryce’s fault too, right?

    Man you could have just spilt the nl mvp this season both Soto and Harper played a elite level I am more of a Harper fan then Soto but both guys were just monsters. Hopefully the Phillies can actually make the playoffs next season because Harper would be damn good in the playoffs.

    I review the stats, could've went either way very close with Juan. Harper had the highest ops in baseball. Juan had a war of 7.0 higher than Harper's 5.9, and Juan had a higher obp. However, Harper's 42 doubles to 20 and only 1 error as opposed to six sealed it. Both candidates were deserving.

      Fangraphs WAR has Harper at 6.6 and 3rd in baseball w Soto and Tatis behind him. You don’t need doubles, Harper had him beat in WRC+ and he led all of baseball in win probability added

      I think that if one only considered hitting, the decision would be close and much harder in general, but if you take fielding into account, it gives Harper the edge without a doubt.

      I would agree, but keep in mind that shoulder might give him problems. The most important stat is availability and if he can't fix the shoulder then it may not work out for him.

      Harper was 0-11 with 5 K’s in Philly’s last series against the Braves. A player who turns in that kind of performance in the biggest series of the season with his team having a chance to win the division should not get a Most Valuable Player award. He was quite possibly the least valuable player on his team when they needed him the most.

    I personally find it hilarious that Bryce Harper won both his MVPs on teams that did not make the postseason. Although this is 100% good news for the Phillies, it means that when Harper inevitably leaves for a "contending team" again, they'll win the World Series.

      I know it's sad. His numbers are basically the same as Harper. Even Freddie Freeman has similar numbers. And they got to the postseason and won.

    I think everyone saw this coming. This season Harper was the very definition of an MVP. Phillies fans should feel good about this.

      @@lefear356 I love Soto, he's the best pure hitter in baseball, but Harper meant more to his team. Also some of Harpers' numbers are actually better.

      @@philly_sports1558 who was more Valuable to his team if Riley didn’t have a great year is his team in the playoffs? Remember Acuna went down early this year. The answer is no. He led the league in RBIs it’s all about scoring runs in order to win. Harper had a great year did it matter? The answer is No it didn’t. When the season on the line in the last series he went 0 for 11. You are not the MVP you can’t be no way. This year it was a meaningless award.

    Austin Riley snubbed for sure. I think people get really forgetful of what an MVP is supposed to mean. Not saying Bryce isn't extremely valuable, I'm saying they're more valuable players in the NL. Let's not base this off of popularity as we do with everything.
