Don't buy surface laptop studio. I've seen the device, built quality is not so good for a device that costs that much. And there's a problem in the hing that makes screen pop forward.
The fact that Brad Colbow did a diagonal drawing test with the new surface pen and the jitter seems gone is a million times more practical and interesting than the 120hz. Ever since Microsoft abandoned Wacom EMR from their surface pros only after the second version, made the device kind of useless for artists. The n-trig thing they bought was horrible and the jiggly lines made it unusable for work. So this development is interesting. I wish all reviewers did the simple diagonal line tests, and tapering tests. Honestly scribbling random stuff and jotting down notes doesn’t say enough.
i second this comment. Endgadget, you make recommandations for microsoft on their strongpoints communication, but you missed the fact that, surface pro 8 is potentially very interesting for artists.... and completly forgot about a decent pen review. Really want the Pro 8 but not liking the loss of the microSD card. Here's my dilemma: the Pro 8 at $1199 with i5, 256gb SSD and 8gb RAM, the Pro 8 at $1699 with i7, 256gb SSD and 16gb RAM, or the Pro 7+ at a much more palatable $779. All three models are bundled with type cover and pen (the Pro 8s come with new type cover and pen, of course). What do you think? Is the Surface Pro 8 worth that much more money?
It's funny how the raised keyboard position is considered ergonomic while Microsoft's own sculpt keyboard claims that a negative tilt is ergonomic while the positive tilt like the surface pro is harmful for your wrists.. I've been using the negative tilt sculpt keyboard for a while and I refuse to return to the so-called ergonomic tilt that you display here because it harms my wrists.
I have a Surface pro 4 and still love it, just wish I got 16 gigs vs 8 gigs of RAM. Love the dock and dual monitors, plus being able to grab it and go. No Ipad can do that. I would like a bigger screen than what I got and I don't think it is that great on the lap.
Also on Surface Pro 4 (i5,8G,256G). It just revived itself for me after installing W11 because I find the touch interface to be better refined. I assume they are not promoting the 120Hz due to no dynamic refresh yet so it means a massive battery hit which devalues the feature considerably. Hopefully, MS can develop dynamic refresh sooner rather than later? The price seems to be a Dell-like premium, that is, charging you a big wedge of cash for the smaller bezels? If aesthetics are worth that $350 extra cost then all well and good, but as with Dell, I prefer to ignore such pricing for a prettier display! The deal-breaker is that the chip is about to be discontinued and I cannot imagine any sensible people paying so much and missing out on the 12th gen? Save your money and if you are a hardcore Surface fan then wait for the inevitable big discounts once Kaby Lake machines flood the market.
Yes, nicer hardware is...more expensive. That is the difference between an iPad Pro and generic tablet for instance. Also, your advice is...to wait for future more powerful CPU ? Then you never purchase anything i guess...
Yeah the problem is though is that the 12th gen surface devices won’t come out until next fall. If you’re constantly waiting one more year for better tech, you’ll never wind up buying anything at all.
WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. No one cares about chipsets, which is why people keep their laptops/desktops 5 to 7 years. And business don't upgrade their computers for new chipsets either. They also keep their laptops/desktops for years before upgrading. Why do people keep posting such nonsense...
Yep, poor room acoustics and no mention that the iPad Pro isn't a PC and can't run apps that the Surface Pro can run. Also, I get that some reviewers just can't get their heads around the keyboard being sold separately (just like the iPad) but they never seem to notice that retailers often sell bundles with a Surface Pro and a keyboard.
MS doesn’t push 120Hz b/c it is primarily purchased as a productivity machine and only a tab second. 120Hz does nothing for productivity. Screen real estate and battery life does. Also missing here is the comparison to buying this instead of both a laptop AND tablet. I use the SP7+ for both of those AND my office workstation. Compared to $3k+ I’d spend on all those this is a steal. Even just comparing to a laptop it’s equivalent plus you get a tablet with excellent pen input. I’m disappointed there’s no review of pen quality (esp jitter which is still an issue on my device).
They brag about the 120hz display then don't enable it because they also brag about battery life, which is disappointing if you rune the 120hz. Battery life is what justifies the added weight.... If you like your SP7, keep using it. The new fluff is not worth the $$$$ upgrade.
@@skyak4493 According to the reviewer they don’t brag about it enough. It’s probably nice, but in terms of priorities I think MS has it right. For me the 7+ has the same chipset, so I’ll pass. I figure on waiting a gen or so to get a better chipset and dynamic refresh to save battery and reduce the weight back down.
Listen, I totally get that some sacrifices had to be made to YT channels like this when the pandemic came along, but SERIOUSLY? @@TellurdogIsayhi no, I won’t blame the device. Because they’re professionals. No professional company relies on the in device mic to make a review. What kind of an excuse is that?

It would be neat to have a disclaimer saying they entire video was shot and edited on the device they’re reviewing, but if she’s suppose to be an editor-in-chief and this is the level of quality she’s capable of, then she’s been promoted over her ability.
It is the weight that seems to be the big drawback. It is not an tablet at 1kg. You cannot use it as tablet for reading. Surface Pro 6 is still manageable. IPad Pro 11 too seems to double as tablet pretty well.
I'm sorry, but this wasn't a great review, quality wise. I like the lady, she's nice. But the sound quality was very poor and she was merely reading a script. And yes, I know all reviewers read a pre elaborated text, but it rarely is as obvious as in this case. This is intended as constructive criticism and nothing else - I still hit the thumbs up. Cheers.
Wonders if I will have to buy a Surface 12 after 2025 when win10 isn't supported anymore and my Surface 5 bricks itself. They replaced Surface 5 for free mind you (out of warranty), when the Surface 4's battery expanded, pushed the left half of the glass in a curve but did not shatter. Felt spongy, you could see computer hardware through the gap from the bowing glass. Oddly, a Surface 4 is all you need if it's only for RUclips and browsing the web.
It is funny. Most of the Apple reviewers find it easy to bash Microsoft for not including the keyboard and stylus but have a hard time bashing Apple for not including their keyboards and Apple pen. I have noticed this from almost every major tech reviewer. Funny!
Man i love my surface, but I don't know if a new gen would be worth almost $2000 including the keyboard and pen... I'm just wishing the iPad pro will eventually reach parity with a Surface.
Apple has the hardware, but they refuse to even edit the operating system to allow it. There’s no reason I should have to treat a $1,500 tablet like a 30 year old iPod to get videos and music off my computer.
Or you're an Apple sheep that can't admit that most of the flaws in Apple's products were out there by Apple. There no reason for the MacBook Air to exists since the M1 iPad Pro could run MacOS and be a real computer. And a 3:2 screen will always be superior to a 4:3 screen.
@@Gonzax maybe ... hopefully there will be a way to do it properly ... but someone also pointed out replacing it yourself voids your warranty. This may be like the SP7+ where the removable SSD is for enterprises to fix their own PCs and not for the general user.

@@danielhenderson8316 Lmao
I guess you didn't see my sentence on how the my s7 plus is equals to my 2nd Gen ipad pro when it comes noticable (not actual) differences to REAL world (not synthetic benchmarks) tasks like scrolling, opening apps, and screen responsiveness. Yet the benchmarks for iPad pro blow the s7 plus out of the water.
My question is ONLY FOR THOSE WHO TRIED BOTH. Not for those who can only speculate.
Now for intensive tasks (video editing, etc) then clearly the iPad wins over the s7 plus. But I'm speaking of only scrolling, opening apps and browsers and the most basic real world tasks.
Here's food for thought. Type 9x9 in a $10 calculator and also in ipad pro. Hit enter on both. Which gives the answer faster?
That's right, it is not noticable which one was faster although the iPad is hundreds of times faster.
@@h1a8 Your S7 isn’t fan cooled. As soon as the fan kicks on any x86 mobile device, there’s a performance hit to keep the processor from melting that an ARM processor does not have to deal with. It’s not my fault you’re too stupid to realize this and that the Surface Pro 8 is no exception. The iPad Pro will feel much snappier for a much longer period in both writing and in performance.
I’m trying to make up my mind between this, Surface Laptop Studio, Laptop 4 and the Book 3
Don't buy surface laptop studio. I've seen the device, built quality is not so good for a device that costs that much. And there's a problem in the hing that makes screen pop forward.
@@TheEhtesham34 Alright! I was thinking about getting the Pro 8 instead
Back to the point there are basic stylus test you can do to see if they are good for drawing. You don’t need to be a good artist. Just slow diagonal lines, slow curve and tapering tests. Clip studio and Photoshop have line smoothening options, but they come at a performance expense.

It has the same 11th gen i5 and 8gb RAM. Only has a 128gb SSD but comes with the microSD slot. All three models are bundled with type cover and pen (the Pro 8s come with new type cover and pen, of course). What do you think? Is the Surface Pro 8 worth that much more money?

How is the battery? Mine SP5 can be turn on while plug in only. 😢

Nice review! I like these devices. It’s the closest Windows machines to MacBook quality. The only drawback for me is the glassy screen. I need to have a matte finish, especially when I am editing photos on Lightroom. The glare is really annoying. But overall I like it.
They don’t add matte to these so it feels better with a stylus. I’m pretty sure matte screen covers exist.
Matte also slightly decreases contrast, something that will impact a Lightroom workflow

Surface pro 8 vs Samsung galaxy pook pro 360?
xps 2 in 1 is the better laptop
'Price Hike'? - Forgot to mention the 'Spec Hike'?
So... MacBooks can get these high production value reviews, but Microsoft products get the scratchy mic review treatment?
Yep, poor room acoustics and no mention that the iPad Pro isn't a PC and can't run apps that the Surface Pro can run. Also, I get that some reviewers just can't get their heads around the keyboard being sold separately (just like the iPad) but they never seem to notice that retailers often sell bundles with a Surface Pro and a keyboard.
I’m guessing she probably recorded with the onboard mic…so the fact that it’s scratchy is unfortunate.
@Its Wes I don't think so. I think on one of the clips it showed her speaking into a mic.
@RL inWA Right. IPad isn't even a full computer, and Apple is never going to make it one. So why would it be a fair comparison.

WAIT YOU CAN REVERSE YHE PEN TO USE IT AS AN ERASER I HAD NO IDEA xD
I get 5h of battery life at 60hz on 30%
MS doesn’t push 120Hz b/c it is primarily purchased as a productivity machine and only a tab second.

I'm serious, the Apple AirPods usually sounds better than whatever the heck she used. It just peeves me to see such a popular channel not give a crap about their quality after this much time.
Guessing she probably used the onboard mic on the surface…so, blame the device.
@@TellurdogIsayhi no, I won’t blame the device. Because they’re professionals. No professional company relies on the in device mic to make a review. What kind of an excuse is that?
It’s acceptable if they tell you in advance, but pretending you’re not doing it is a problem.
Cheers.
Agreed, she’s good and the info is decent, but the production quality is pretty low. Yes, we’re all working from home but get a pro mic at least!

Haven't thought about that, but this is totally true. Weird now that you mentioned it!
Why else would you get the surface pro if your not expecting to use a stylus? I think most people who uses SP were attracted because of that …
