That ending speech alone proved why David Tennant was the best Doctor. He can be goofy, angry and magical all in the space of 5 minutes. Matt Smith got the goofy and angry angle but didn't really get the magical stuff till near the end.
My son started watching Doctor Who after DT so "his Doctor" is always going to be Matt Smith. I still did a mental mind punch when he turned round and said David Tennant is a better actor though! (And I hold to my theory that it would be cool to see the Doctor regenerate into a character that looks exactly like a former self but with a completely different character and visual style. While the "borderline personality", leading to full blown manic depressive at times, emotional swings were amazingly done, I have always wanted to see DT play a Doctor Who wasn't so haunted by the past. I don't think the regeneration sickness helped there either… The writers have now put in canon that the Doctor regenerates into a face he has seen before so why shouldn't it be the face he saw in the mirror? That couple of minutes by Cappaldi, where he recognises his face has opened a whole load of possibilities. Imagine if (when the time comes, not too soon though, I actually like PC) he regenerated into John Simms. That could be complicated! Aside from my hubby, the biggest argument about the idea was that just because DT was good, he had his turn and we shouldn't "let" him have another go. I don't think it is about letting him, although he would be my first choice for the reasons I gave and because I think he would be most able to pull off a character that was still great but very deep different from the last time. Most importantly through, I think it has to be what is good for the character and fun for viewers. I think this would be).

This was extremely refreshing to watch..I'm about halfway through Matt Smith's first series and seeing this was like seeing an old friend again. Matt is great, but David was completely above and beyond, as was Chris. I miss them both so much :'(
I feel the same way. Matt's just fine, he's quite good, but oh, I loved Tennant's time as the Doctor. I really enjoyed Eccleston too, but I was more attached to 10 due to the fact that Eccleston unfortunately had only one season.

I was so jealous of the people who got to see this live :,( Doctor Who was my LIFE as a kid. I read the huge books on the making of the series from cover to cover, and would get them out each night to look at. I had books full of drawings and stories. When I got my first season boxset, the second season, I had a period of about three months where I would watch hours and hours of it every day without ever missing a day. I would rewatch David Tennant's Video Diaries and Doctor Who Confidential hundreds of times. I would ask questions on all the Q & A's on the old old RTD Doctor Who website. I sent a six page letter to Cardiff from Australia when I was 12. I remember being devastated when they had a competition and I couldn't enter because of where I lived. I mean, just look at the username I made myself in year 5.

Ohhh…to have been British in the UK and experienced all of this in the moment! Those children seemed so enchanted by the Doctor. I don’t think we have anything similar in the states, to the extent of the popularity and being truly part of the national culture as DW is in the UK. But…we are grateful to be part of it.

Beethoven famously became deaf in later life. By the time he'd written his 9th symphony (famous for the Scherzo and for the "Ode to Joy", his hearing was likely gone completely. All the more amazing that he produced such marvellous work without hearing an orchestra play it!

The piece at 04:15 is actually lovely. Just my kind of sound. Reminiscent of Penderecki, Varese, Schoenberg, Barok, Alice Coltrane, Stravinsky and the like.
