If you want to use this rig for animations make sure you go to the shader and set frames to 1, disable Cyclic, and enable Auto Refresh. This way the face doesn't change every frame and it only changes when you set keyframes on the location of the bone in pose mode.
Sir, i just want to say thank you so much for this comment. You saved me!
it still goes through every frame for me :(((, what other steps should I consider?
are you sure you set the frames to 1? shouldnt be possible for it to automatically change if its set to only 1 frame in the image sequence @@webdog3667
you need to set the "frames" to " 1 " as blender now plays back animated textures, whereas the offset actually offsets it. @@webdog3667
@@webdog3667 I think i found it set on image node set frames to 1 and i will not change every frame
For those wondering: Image to Plane addon is now integrated in Blender under add.
Thankyou alot for this, this just helped alot!
For those having trouble with the shrink-wrap stage, make sure to go into Edit Mode for your face plane and subdivide it a bunch.
This should give it geometry to actually wrap to
Any idea from where I can download 2d eyes?
I just used PixlrX (Free) to make some face slides with some circles (on Normal) and some squares (set to Alpha/Erase). It's not as "cool" as hand drawn eyes but you can get away with a surprising amount with just 2D shapes. I'd highly recommend giving it a go 🦊👍@@pixel__lord
same question is mine
Tysm!
Blender is much more unexplored than I thought 🤯
Yeah it ia more that 3d software
It blends 3D and python, hence its name :)
One thing you forgot to mention is to put number 1 on the frames box node, because in other wise the sequence repeats all the time when we play,.
hoooly crap im so happy that i looked through this videos comments.
you're a life saver thank you
@@dvd-b5676
thank u! i was so confused
omg thank you so much, i was going crazy for a few minutes
@@basically_gdg9441 I am glad it help.
Amazing! You're a legend for giving away the whole rig, have been so frustrated trying to learn 3D facial rigging and this 2D answer is fascinating, excited to play around!
I'm a complete newbie to Blender here and just wanted to thank you for your tutorial. It's really helpful all the time.
😊
Any idea from where I can download 2d eyes?
Few problems I ran into, and how I fixed them: 1. When I uploaded my files, it created more than one plane. Make sure all your files have the same name and are in numeric order. Also, I'm not sure why, but if I selected files that were the same dimensions, all the files in the folder would be in the plane, even if I did not select them. 2. The bone was not changing the offset value of the face. I had to change the up/down value of the bone to something other than 0, then it worked perfectly. Hope this helps!
Thank You!
i need to rename the image to like 001, 007, 010 and so on
Quick Question on #2. You said "change the up/down value of the bone to something other than 0" but where specifically? What is up/down value, I can't find that anywhere.
@evil_q any response would be helpful, and thank you for the tip on #1 I fixed that and it worked.
This is a wonderful tutorial! It simplifies a complex process into easy steps to follow. Thank you very much Shotty!
This is exactly something i've been wanting a tutorial on for so long XD Now i wanna see someone take this and work it into a rig that can be used with VRChat!!
In case anyone was stumped for a bit like I was, after importing the images, if you have a purple square just move forward a frame on your timeline and it should then be your first set of eyes!
Ty so much!
My gosh, saved my life 🙏🦊
thank you very much!
Incase you want to duplicate the rig to multible characters, you need make the face material a single-user copy (the number right to the material name) and also the image sequences. And don't forget to replace the new bone name for each rig in the python expression.
How to download this rig bro please help 😅
Thank you!
ive learned so much from you since yr first 2D facial rig in 2020, thank u again
Hey so i noticed you have a red border on the thumbnail. When you watch a video, a red line is on the bottom of the thumbnail. Someone might scroll by thinking theyve already watched your video.
I was so confused, i tought i watched it already but then i saw the publishing time, and that's new video
@tenSowaXXL yeah and I do NOT want to miss anything good from SS
maybe thats the point, makes you feel familiar with the video, makes you look twice
Yeah, it’s a common mistake
RUclipsrs have been doing this for years bruh. It’s so you’re likely to watch it again *because* you don’t see the red bar.
I used your previous 2D video to rig a lot of things, this update really helps, thanks!!
Amazing tutorial, thank you so much! To anyone using this tutorial, make sure that you set up the driver from pose mode, or else you will waste hours of time being confused like I was lol
W video. it explained so many questions other tutorials have left unexplained. i Love your teaching style. thank you so much!
A great trick. Many years ago I used to do something similar with svg curves. This is way better.
just when i think i learn alot about blender in a month, this man comes out with a new vid
That's a great way of doing it. I've seen other ways, but none that give this ease of animating.
Very great tutorial and well explained, but do you maybe know what to do when you want to make a character that has pupils that can be moved freely inside the eye itself?
WOW, this is something new for me in blender! I will try ^^ Thanks
If you don't want to use a rig, you can make a custom property for the face object set to integer and use that as a driver for the node value. Though perhaps the object data also has a place to change the frame value for that matter?
Awesome! I remember asking around to see if anyone knew how to set up a Cory Carson face. This is beautiful!
Excellent Tutorial. Thank you. Very well explained.
Following directly, explanation is so clear
Thanks for the tutorial and files to play with and explore. Just last night I put on Nick Jr for my 2 year old niece, and saw some very similar face animations on 3D characters. I was wondering how to do such a thing, then this shows up in my recommendations. Cheers. Happy to subscribe to your awesome channel.
To anyone looking for the 2D Face Rig, you have to click the Crafty Asset Pack link in the description. The rig is available in the $0 Sample Pack.
This is sick! Thanks for sharing
That's what im looking for! Thank you, it's like Joystick and Slider in After Effect
Once again! Thank you very much for this tutorial! You have made it really clear and easy to understand.
Super helpful! Thank You!!
I recently got that old shapekey GUI slider driver addon working on 3.0. It works well if you copy the driver off the shapekey into the respective texture's frame offset, albeit without the needed GUI polish obviously
Where is the download for this rig please ?
amazing tutorial! I think you forgot to include the link to the face rig though
do you know how? im at that stage, and i thought grouping the face rig and the image planes together would work, and at this point im not sure
Do I know how to what? @@webdog3667
ty
WOW! very nice and clean tutorial..straight to topic. You have earned by subscription ❤❤❤
Maybe I'm not seeing it but you said you included the assets and rig in the description and I can't see it? All I see is the links to the vfx pack and the crafty assets pack
Amazing tutorial, thank you!
Thanks for tutorial!
But how to animate this by keyframes?
The pickers of it just move by themselves((((
magnificent, this is wonderful, thanks a lot for sharing all this information.
Thanks for the tutorial! Btw anyone ever mention you sound like actor Adam Scott?
It was a method that I needed very much. Thank you for your effort.
If your image going to purple in every changing offset just make sure to name it same all and just put numbers in the back
My image sequence isn't updating when I move the bone in pose mode, but only in object mode, any idea why? Great tutorial anyway!
Having the same issue. I am using Blender 4.0 instead of 3.6 so it might work differently in the newer version.
I would love a tutorial on how to achieve the texture in that first animation! THe clay-looking one that also animates
Nice!!!!! Is there a way to have the face plane parented to bones? I have an armature on my model, but that face rig doesn't stay attached like you'd expect.
I parented the plane to the head and weight painted the eyes red to the head bone
Love it, thank you! How do you animate with it on the time line without it cycling through all the images? Cheers.
i cant get it to work when i select all the images to import it makes multiple planes for each image it doesn't make a image sequence
Same here and I'm raging over it :/
@@jaizzichive @PaperBagManReal I had the same issue. I think you need to re-name your images. I had initially called them "image1" "image2"... but it didn't work, so I re-named them "image-001" "image-002" and it's working now. hope this helps !
thanks dude huge help
Ur a crafty asset to the community 😊
when i import it it does all the images at once how do I fix this?
same
Thank you
where to find this face rig in cartf asset pack
the video helped me thank u bro
where can i download the rig?
I'm sorry but if i move the Eyes the mouth changes together
The real question is why there is no value input for that shader node… but I guess you’d still need a driver if you wanted a controller in the viewport.
Where are the images?
When I import the images all at once it comes out as seperate planes even tough I checked "Animate image sequences".
damn having the same problem.
were the images all named "image_#" they must be uniformly named
@@EggLord3916this works thank you!
Sorry, but you only showed how the switches on the rig work and how to put eyes on the surface of the model. What about animation? It seems to me that there is no connection to the correct model. How do you animate the movement of a character with 2D eyes?
I have a model with 3d mouths and cube face, do i have to do the same stuff?
Can someone help me? Even after making the mesh the parent of the image, when moving the mesh in Pose Mode, the image does not move with it? How to solve it?
This is really frustrating... The faces keep changing constantly in the timeline and I can't animate it without them jumping all over the place. I set the interpolation mode to constant for the face and mouth but the cyclic and auto refresh keep changing the faces. Can someone please help me understand where I went horribly wrong? Also where is the free rig? I can't find it :(
i'm having this issue too, anyone got solutions?
@outatime9449 I even got his rig from gum road but it has the same problem 😭
I'm trying to figure this out as well 🤷♂️ it's probably something simple but I can't find it.
I'll try again today but it is really weird how it seems the frames are the real drivers instead of the bone
Yes, it's using the y position data of the bone, but the frames also?
really good tutorial
best tutorial for these faces as of now
I am probably blind, but while I can see a link to all the images, I do not see a link to the rig setup. Did you guys find it?
So I own the crafty asset pack but dont see the facial rig anywhere to be found? Only see textures models and particles...
using this to rig wolverine claws
I'd suggest playing with the thumbnail more - at the first glance it seems as if we've already watched the video :)
Thanks a lot! Can you import these animations to unity or you need to adjust something?
nice work. how can animators work in solid view to increase scene optimisation? blender does not update shader nodes in solid mode
The Y axys doesn’t update on my pc, why is that and how to fix it?
Whenever i set the offset to 0 it makes the entire material pink when that isnt in the files i chose, is there any way to fix this?
thank you so much for the files,
I parented the shrinkwrapped face to the head and the face now moves when I move the head in object mode, but when I switch to pose mode and move the head the face doesn't move with it. Anybody know how to solve this?
the tutorial is really good but it doesnt work in pose mode?
Well done, Great Job. But tell me, would you be able to combine your technique with this plug-in? Rhubarb Lipsync add-on. I can't find anywhere how to use this plugin where the mouth elements are image planes not grease pencil or 3D objects.
The way Blender change the drivers is a bit like the way you do in Python!
So with this method, we can make vtubers with mocap that triggers bone based sprite drivers?
Have you experienced this not working when appending the character to a new project?
any tutorial in how to make this for Unreal Engine 5? To make our character change expression if he attacks for example
Does this survive exporting to a game engine like Godot, or is it Blender only?
Will this import into ue 5?
how to lip sync using this rig sir. please make a video on it.
This is amazing!!! Is there anyway to change the scale of the eyes without affecting the scale of the mouth?
So how can i pack them into blend ? When I use image sequence and press pack resouces, I am seeing that no new files added and i am not able to pack them into blend hope you will reply
can this export into game engines like unity?
Which shader are you using
Another quick question is how to attatche the face rig itselff to an exisiting armature?
I can't find the download link. I would be even willing to pay for it. Can someone please help me to!
how do I switch between procedural patterns or 2 different image sequences
How To do it with grease pencil
I saved the blender and opened it and the bone doesn't appear
does it matter what size the png should be for the eyes? I imagine it would probably depend on the model
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but in 4.2 this method doesn't work
so idk how i missed a step but why isn't my face rig animating with the skeleton for the rest of the body? So, I did already parent it to the head of my character.....and thats the clearest step I saw for that. can anyone help me see what i missed?
when I parent the eyes to my character, its work and like parenting object work I can move the character and the eyes follow, but when I rotate the character head by the bone then the eyes not following, what should I do? thanks
Can someone tell where is the link of rigged facial ?
8:48 plz make tutorial how to make those rigs
When i attatch it to my model i cant apply rig anymore and when i dont the face wont movw how do i fix it ?
