I suspected that Long Way From Home was written about Dave; nice to have that confirmed. Unfortunately, the brothers' exquisite harmonies are kind of what makes the song, and it doesn't really work as well without them.
I feel that it was Dave's singing as well his guitar playing that gave The Kinks their sound. I say Ray in the 1990s when he was doing his Storyteller tour. He has fantastic but it was not The Kinks without Dave's vocal harmonies and guitar playing. If he was not a technically a good singer, it was for the better as far as the Kinks sound.
I can see what you mean- there is a passion and even bristly warning to the original recording of A Long Way from Home that maybe is smoothed out of the mix here a bit. The Getaway though is done really well here and is a pretty great song I think!
Raymond Douglas Davies is my favorite songwriter of all time.🤗✌
My NEW favorite Kinks song, to add to the collection...great beat!! Thanks!!
Brotherly love!
Great post!
Thank you!☮️
Only 735 views! Hard to believe. "The Getaway" is a jewel.
Ray just underlining his genius in the usual way.....
Great lead guitarist there in Dave's absence. Almost hypnotic listening to the quieter parts of the second song without vocals.
The rhythm guitar is a good train riff. Sort of solemn.
Absolutely Brilliant❤❤❤
Wonderful
These guys are the best. I like early Stones with Brian Jones but Ray is so animated 😅
Brilliant....👍
Two magic songs

Margriet de Held, ThankYou for posting! Good to hear Ray's Intro about The Getaway (Lonesome Train).
So real and honest

@MayoLinoleumWorks Yes, I think so too, one of my favorites!
Liam and Noel take a tip that famous siblings can get on together.
Methinks Ray is a fan of Mark Knopfler based on the 2nd song here. It's great.
I think it's actually the reverse, Ray's been doing this dance since the mid 60's
Ray is surely The Original
The one "fact" that everyone "knows" about the Kinks is that the brothers hated each other.
I think they still had a brotherly love for one other, just had conflicting personalities, that did not mesh well.
Just not the same without Dave on the genetically perfect harmonies.
@Artur Bello Agree ... sad but true !
I really care way more about Ray. I loved It.

i wanted to know too,...that bitch is Smokin Hot !!
Too restrained on A Long Way From Home. It's like he's given up.
