Your ship was at the submarine base in St. Thomas. That was the AMERIKANIS, I sailed on her when she was with Costa Cruise Line in the early 80s, she was doing 3-4 day cruises to Nassau out of Miami then. I think the other ship may have been the AZUR or FREEWINDS

1988 was the only time I've ever been to wdw, and Epcot. I also went to sea would. It rained allot and I got aqua net hair spray in my eyes! Ah the 80s I miss it, and I miss my dad who was the one who took me here for my 16th birthday. He passed from cancer in 2008. Thanks for this. I lived in New London Connecticut at the time, and going here marked my first time ever on an airplane ✈️. I've been living in Florida sense I lost my dad, and I have not been back to Epcot or wdw even once. I need to change that soon!

That woman singer should have dressed up. She looks like a tramp. The top is something a hippy college student 19 would wear. The worn blue jeans look slovenly. As a middle aged woman, over the hill, who had hit the wall, should wear something dressy and reflective of her years. What has she got in her rear pocket? A wallet? Nobody would want to sniff her butt.

Just as I remember it. Went to WDW in August of 1988. I honestly think this was the peak of EPCOT center.

I saw this version of the carousel of progress in the summer of 1988 on my first trip to the magic kingdom at walt Disney world with my grandmother and she told me that the ending had changed from the version that she saw at the 1964 world's fair in New York city.

Fantastisch dit eer betoon aan Els Telder !!!!. Met dank aan broer Ed Telder waar ik mee in ons elftal van D.E.S.V. voetbalde, mocht ik op mijn huwelijk feest genieten van een avond geweldige live muziek van Els Telder met haar denk ik Circle Band. Een op 08-06-1984 optreden in de feest zaal Plaswijckpark wat velen nog niet vergeten zijn. Speciaal het verzoek nummer van mij "Blue By You" als ik er aan denk krijg ik nog kippenvel. Mijn huwelijk is al jaren geleden geëindigd maar de herinnering aan het geweldige feest wat ik graag wilde en de avond hoge entertainment van Els met haar band zal ik altijd in mijn hart mee dragen.

Bijzondere herinneringen aan deze kist. Mijn pa vloog er begin jaren 80 als passagier mee naar de VS en mijn broer heeft er jaren later, na de overstap van KLu naar KLM op gevlogen als coco en co, om vervolgens te upgraden naar de 777 waar hij het schopte tot de felbegeerde linkerstoel. Mooi dat deze kist nu nog bestaat als museumstuk bij Aviodrome

This is actually a perfect example of art being ruined by a sponsors ulterior motive. GE wanted customers not to wait until they came out with a better model of appliance, so they had the song changed to singing the praises of the present. So it gives off a message of "Let's keep things the way they are." which clashes with the carousel's theme of making progress. Also, this show had a few sexist moments, which they genuinely didn't have an excuse for. Before this, Disney produced a soundtrack for an alternate version of the ride for the ultimately scrapped "Edison Square". In that show, the Woman's Rights Movement is only mentioned once as a thing that happened, without going into any commentary on it. That is how you balance historical accuracy with political correctness.

I suspected that Long Way From Home was written about Dave; nice to have that confirmed. Unfortunately, the brothers' exquisite harmonies are kind of what makes the song, and it doesn't really work as well without them.

Nicely Done Margriet!!! We are MAJOR fans of Holland America, and looking to make our next cruise adventure on the Koningsdam and / or the Nieuw Statendam. Nice to see some of the interior photos of the ship mixed in with your tour shots. Nice to also see your photo highlights of this cruise itinerary (we have only recently started considering a cruise of these areas). AND very nice to see the Cunard ship - also in our consideration for cruising with another line. Curious! What were the medals / medallions you were presented with? We are members of HAL's Mariner Society, but are only familiar with the pins and membership gifts given out at the special on-board luncheons. Hope to hear from you. Regards!

I enjoyed all three versions of this ride (if you had wings/if you could fly/dreamflight). I can't ever go back to MK or EPCOT because they've closed all my favorite attractions.

THANK YOU for posting this!!! This ride was my very first Disney ride - on our honeymoon in 1987! I remember being blown away at how the music continued seamlessly from room to room - and I remembered the song but haven't heard it in many many years! (I love that I remembered so much about it - including the part when the traffic stops and the people run from side to side)
