Hope Ray relives his triumph every time he sings this-it was the summer of ‘66, Sunny Afternoon was #1 in the charts and England had just won the World Cup.
The fact that he's still playing to such a small crowd, which would have been when he first started out, but never forgot his roots...He played that room...what a legend...my love always, Ray...xxx
This song reminds me of shopping at Macy's with my mom for paisley shirts and wide wale cords... and don't forget the big belt. Young and innocent days.
I watched this when I was seventeen and fell absolutely in love with this man. I'm engaged to a musician now myself, and I am thirty-four, but this takes me back every time.
Gawd. This is fuckin epic. When you think age has the the better of someone and they just kick age right in it's ass. I will forever be blazing on a sunny afternoon.
In the twenty-twenty hindsight orthodoxy of our Rock & Roll history textbooks, Ray Davies gets cited as the progenitor of the proto-punks. He loved the music that had found success before his, though, including the trad-jazz that offered his oldest sister the casual opportunity to enjoy a dance in the arms of a stranger, where she died the day she gave Ray his first guitar. The trendy guitar bands like his kid brother's (not to mention John and Paul's - and Mick and Kieth's) quickly made that scene a thing of the past - along with the music hall sing-alongs his dad had loved. When success came to reward his cohort for their foresight and swagger, they never looked back. Ray did, though. "Help me, help me, help me fade away..."
Why do millions of people of all ages still listen to and revere the Beatles. The same can't be said about the kinks. Fool of fool. You must be tone deaf, and possess no real grasp of music. So twanging guitars and a few trendy lines impress you thick simpleton.
When you think about the genius of Ray Davies and the only thing that comes to mind is Lennon or McCartney, it shows two things: you have a personal problem with John and Paul, The Beatles are above any other band. Your comment is very unfair to Ray, John and Paul.
I agree. It looks like the 'younger' ones have just gotten off the bus expecting bingo, only to find one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time has been booked instead. Well done the older bunch who know about music. 👍
The tax man's taken all my dough And left me in my stately home Lazing on a sunny afternoon And I can't sail my yacht He's taken everything I got All I've got's this sunny afternoon Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze I gotta big fat mama trying to break me And I love to live so pleasantly Live this life of luxury Lazing on a sunny afternoon In the summertime In the summertime In the summertime My girlfriend's run off with my car And gone back to her ma and pa Telling tails of drunkenness and cruelty Now I'm sitting here Sipping at my ice cold beer Lazing on a sunny afternoon Help me, help me, help me sail away Well give me two good reasons why I oughta stay 'Cause I love to live so pleasantly Live this life of luxury Lazing on a sunny afternoon In the summertime In the summertime In the summertime Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze I gotta big fat mama trying to break me And I love to live so pleasantly Live this life of luxury Lazing on a sunny afternoon In the summertime In the summertime In the summertime In the summertime
This is one of many 1963 - 1969 covers which will be on Haley Reinhart's new album, "Whats That Sound" to be released September 22nd. This as well as the Mamas and Papas' Words of Love will feature Scott Bradlee of Post Modern Jukebox on Piano.
Ray Davies should really stop with the panto " let's hear you at the back" audience participation stuff. It's annoying to everybody. Just play the songs...
This song is a masterpiece, thank you Ray, love you man!
Hope Ray relives his triumph every time he sings this-it was the summer of ‘66, Sunny Afternoon was #1 in the charts and England had just won the World Cup.
Would have gone to #1 in the states had The Kinks been allowed to tour! This is my #1 on my Kinks Top 100 ("Picture Book" is #2)!
One of the great minstrels of the 20th century.
Something so original about the Kinks. Everything is just perfect in this performance.

Yes, but elevator music this is not.
Young and innocent days...a great track
Pete Townsend once stated “ Ray Davies should be Poet Laureate “.
True
pop genius.....this composition is quite clever.
This song goes my heart!
I watched this when I was seventeen and fell absolutely in love with this man. I'm engaged to a musician now myself, and I am thirty-four, but this takes me back every time.
He's still got it
Gawd. This is fuckin epic. When you think age has the the better of someone and they just kick age right in it's ass. I will forever be blazing on a sunny afternoon.

Great song and Ray always being the quintessential entertainer!

"Help me, help me, help me fade away..."
He’s the progenitor of punk and so much more.
So damn good
Gowd I love this!
The man Lennon/McCartney could only dream of being. England's greatest songsmith.
Lennon and McCartney and Davies. The is no "better"

Lennon, no... McCartney yes..
Davies was brilliant but didn’t match up to the sheer volume of genius of Lennon & McCartney.
I Heart Ray.
Love this song.

Can't help but wish Ray had done this on The Kumars at No. 42, "interview" and all.
Chef d’œuvre des sixties, master piece !!!!!
Fenomenaal, he was paul and john together.
I read in an interview that the " 2 good reasons I ought to stay " were 38 D Ds . Good reasons .......

Blazin' on a sunny afternoon...
Wonderful
Now I feel bad this old guy who still has it telling the crowd to wake up. Im 26 my dad's 60 we'd be dancing around with a case of beer singing along
Did you not see the elderly group at 3:17 having a ball?
I agree. It looks like the 'younger' ones have just gotten off the bus expecting bingo, only to find one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time has been booked instead. Well done the older bunch who know about music. 👍
Things will get better summer child
Как будто как вчера!
God Save Ray Davies!
The tax man's taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I can't sail my yacht
He's taken everything I got
All I've got's this sunny afternoon
Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I gotta big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
My girlfriend's run off with my car
And gone back to her ma and pa
Telling tails of drunkenness and cruelty
Now I'm sitting here
Sipping at my ice cold beer
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
Help me, help me, help me sail away
Well give me two good reasons why I oughta stay
'Cause I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I gotta big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
Why does he say, "i hate this" at the top of this video?? 😕
who cant get into this?
Toe tappy
Taxmen, girlfriends and big fat mommas...
Look up the word Legend in the dictionary! It's actually spelt RAY.
Come on
Why does he expect everyone to sing along if they don't know the words? "C'MON!"
Sounds old gorrilaz 2d
How does the girl say these lyrics, 'I've got a big fat mama.'?
Fox P2 gene
He means The big fat mama of England taxing him! Not a real woman
What you mean how does she say it?
why does modern music have to be so shit, why cant they go back to having actual talent

Anonymous really? There are SOOOOO many artists nowadays that have talent, stop being lazy and look for them
Nutcase Nate sorry he's right
there are a lot of good music nowadays, but now it's not mainstream.
But all I got is this sunny afternoon can you say brilliant
