So many musicians state its their favorite song, and Pete Townshend says he can't put into words what listening to this song does to him.

Perfection. Possibly the best single from what was probably the best year in what was definitely the best decade of English pop. Paul Weller says this is the song he wishes he had written. David Gilmour I believe likewise. Damon Albarn adores it. Bob Geldof said he had been "chasing that sound for years". It just has something, I don't know what. If I knew what, I'd bottle it and sell it. God save the Kinks.

Such an atmospheric song that really encapsulates a time and a place.
As an Australian who always dreamt of traveling to London, but didn't manage to travel until their early 50's a few years back... I knew I was in London when I stood at Waterloo Bridge at sunset humming this song to myself with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes.
Absolutely love this song and the kinks, they are so under rated... although, I am a Beatles gal 😉 💜

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
    Flowing into the night?
People so busy, make me feel dizzy
    Taxi light shines so bright
But I don't need no friends
As long as I gaze on
    Waterloo sunset
    I am in paradise
Every day, I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset's fine (Waterloo sunset's fine)
    Terry meets Julie
    Waterloo station
    Every Friday night
But I am so lazy, don't want to wander
I stay at home at night
    But I don't feel afraid
As long as I gaze on
    Waterloo sunset
    I am in paradise
Every day, I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset's fine (Waterloo sunset's fine)
Millions of people swarming like flies 'round
    Waterloo underground
But Terry and Julie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound
And they don't need no friends
As long as they gaze on
    Waterloo Sunset

My ring tone. So I have now heard it maybe 10,000 times...Still as good as the first time. Apparently you (I) just can't get tired of it.

Superb band 60s sound has been the most distintive sound that blew away the drab 50s but nothing can touch the sound of the 60s even today

Every time I hear that song at first I think it's the Beatles. There is no other song in the world. That sounds more like the Beatles than this.
